Jyon Simon set to commit on Thursday, is Rutgers football in the mix?

Jyon Simon is set to announce his college football commitment.

Decision day is Thursday for Jyon Simon, a Florida defensive lineman who is being recruited by Rutgers football. His recruitment includes some of the biggest names in college football.

A 6-foot-1, 260-pound defensive lineman from Raines High School (Jacksonville, Florida), Simon had 77 total tackles, nine sacks and 15 tackles for a loss last year. Simon took a visit to Rutgers football this past weekend.

This spring, he has taken visits to Auburn, North Carolina State, East Carolina and Florida Atlantic. He has made two visits to North Carolina State this spring.

On Thursday, Simon’s commitment ceremony won’t be featuring hats, a common practice for announcement ceremonies. Instead, Simon will have cards on the table. And Simon said the following programs will all have cards on the table on Thursday evening:

The likes of Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia Tech, Iowa State, Louisville and Maryland have all also offered Simon.

Simon will be making his announcement from his high school at 6:30 p.m. ET.

According to 247Sports Composite, he is a three-star recruit and the No. 78 defensive lineman in the nation.

Jyon Simon breaks down his relationship with Rutgers football following an offer earlier this month.

Class of 2025 defensive lineman Jyon Simon was offered by Rutgers football in early August as the Scarlet Knights became the latest Power Five program to officially get involved with the Florida defensive lineman.

At 6-foot-3 and 282 pounds, Simon plays for Simon High School (Jacksonville, FL). Last season,the defensive tackle had 29 total tackles, 3.5 sacks and an interception.

Raines went 9-3 last season.

Simon has a strong offer list that includes ArkansasAuburn, UConn, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Maryland and Texas among others. In early August, he was offered by USC and Rutgers.

The relationship with Rutgers is growing, Simon said, and he gave an update on his recruitment over the weekend.

“Rutgers just always showing love, writing letters for me and sending graphics to my home,” Simon said.

The connection so far with Rutgers football has been a solid one. Simon said that he is talking the most with defensive coordinator Joe Harasymiak and defensive line coach Marquise Watson.

“It’s been an amazing relationship between me and Coach H,” Simon said.

“Man, he’s a great guy seriously and coach Watson – it’s always awesome to talk to him.”

There are no visits planned yet for this fall with Simon saying that his priority is to win a state championship. His recruitment is something he plans on letting play out.

“It is going well,” Simon said.

“I’m still an underdog on most recruiting sites but that’s all going to change after this season.”

Raines opens the season on August 25 at University Christian (Jacksonville, FL).

Rutgers football offers Florida defensive lineman

Rutgers football offers Florida defensive lineman Jyon Simon over the weekend.

Joyn Simon was offered by Rutgers football on Sunday, marking yet another Power Five offer in the Florida defensive lineman’s recruitment.

At 6-foot-3 and 282 pounds, Simon already has some impressive size. He is coming off a standout season at Parker High School (Jacksonville, FL) where he had 17 total tackles, one sack, two tackles for a loss and two quarterback hurries.

Parker went 3-7 last year.

He currently holds offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia Tech, Maryland and Texas among others. Over the weekend, he was offered by USC and Rutgers.

In the 2024 recruiting class, Rutgers currently has seven commits from Florida. On Sunday night, they received a commitment from Edd Guerrier, a Florida running back who had an offer from Louisville.

A 5-foot-9 and 192-pound running back, Guerrier plays for Port Charlotte High School (Port Charlotte, FL). Last season  as a junior, he averaged 7.7 yards per carry to finish with 1,450 rushing yards and 20 rushing touchdowns.
