Alabama shortstop Justin Lebron announces return for sophomore season

Alabama shortstop Justin Lebron announced that he was returning to Alabama for his sophomore season.

The Alabama Crimson Tide baseball program received some good news on Friday afternoon. Shortstop Justin Lebron announced that he would be returning to Tuscaloosa for his sophomore season.

Lebron made 58 starts for Alabama this past season at shortstop. He was a valuable asset for the Crimson Tide on both offense and defense. Lebron was named a First Team All-SEC selection. He was also named a member of the Freshman All-SEC Team and SEC All-Defensive Team.

The native of Miramar, Florida finished the 2024 season with a .344 batting average to go along with 12 home runs and 38 runs batted in. He also compiled an impressive .951 fielding percentage.

Lebron’s decision to return is huge considering the roster turnover that Alabama will likely have this offseason.

Two Alabama Baseball freshman receive All-SEC honors

True freshman Zane Adams and Justin Lebron were each named to the All-SEC Freshman Team on Monday.

Two Alabama Crimson Tide freshmen received All-SEC honors on Monday. Shortstop Justin Lebron and left-handed pitcher Zane Adams were named to the All-Freshman Team. Lebron received first-team and all-defensive honors as well.

Both Lebron and Adams have been key contributing members of the Alabama baseball program this season. Lebron, a Florida native, has amassed a .340 batting average to go along with 11 home runs and 34 runs batted in.

Adams, a Texas native, has stepped in for the Crimson Tide in light of multiple injuries on the mound. Adams holds a 4-5 record with a 5.37 earned run average. He has been Alabama’s Game 2 starter in conference play. Rob Vaughn and the Alabama coaching staff found two gems that will continue to have successful careers in Tuscaloosa moving forward.

Alabama baseball picks up first win in season-opener against Manhattan

The Alabama baseball team secured its first win of the 2024 season against Manhattan on Friday. The Crimson Tide will return to “The Joe” for Game 2 of the series on Saturday afternoon.

It did not take long for Rob Vaughn to pick up his first win as the head baseball coach at the University of Alabama. On Friday evening, the Crimson Tide defeated Manhattan, 4-0.

Alabama’s productivity on the mound was key in the season-opener. Junior pitcher Ben Hess started for the Crimson Tide and was exceptional in his first outing.

Hess pitched four innings and struck out nine batters. He allowed one hit and walked two.

He was relieved by junior Hagan Banks. The Georgia native worked 2 2/3 innings, allowing one hit and one walk. He struck out five.

Junior pitcher Braylon Myers closed with 2 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball.

Offensively, Alabama was led by newcomers Ian Petrutz and Evan Sleight. the two combined to drive in two runs and go 3-7 at the plate. Junior first baseman Will Hodo also drove in one.

Other players who had hits were TJ McCants (2) and Justin Lebron (1).

Alabama will return to Sewell-Thomas Stadium to take on Manhattan in Game 2 of the series. First pitch for Saturday’s matchup is scheduled for 2 p.m. CST. The game is scheduled to be carried on the SEC Network+.
