Alabama baseball picks up first win in season-opener against Manhattan

The Alabama baseball team secured its first win of the 2024 season against Manhattan on Friday. The Crimson Tide will return to “The Joe” for Game 2 of the series on Saturday afternoon.

It did not take long for Rob Vaughn to pick up his first win as the head baseball coach at the University of Alabama. On Friday evening, the Crimson Tide defeated Manhattan, 4-0.

Alabama’s productivity on the mound was key in the season-opener. Junior pitcher Ben Hess started for the Crimson Tide and was exceptional in his first outing.

Hess pitched four innings and struck out nine batters. He allowed one hit and walked two.

He was relieved by junior Hagan Banks. The Georgia native worked 2 2/3 innings, allowing one hit and one walk. He struck out five.

Junior pitcher Braylon Myers closed with 2 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball.

Offensively, Alabama was led by newcomers Ian Petrutz and Evan Sleight. the two combined to drive in two runs and go 3-7 at the plate. Junior first baseman Will Hodo also drove in one.

Other players who had hits were TJ McCants (2) and Justin Lebron (1).

Alabama will return to Sewell-Thomas Stadium to take on Manhattan in Game 2 of the series. First pitch for Saturday’s matchup is scheduled for 2 p.m. CST. The game is scheduled to be carried on the SEC Network+.

Alabama Baseball fends off UIC to take series sweep with 9-7 win

No. 20 Alabama defeated UIC 9-7 on Sunday to take the series sweep. The Tide will travel to Samford to take on the Bulldogs on Tuesday night.

The Alabama baseball team continued to stay hot at the plate en route to a 9-7 win over UIC. The Tide swept the Flames in the three-game series over the weekend.

Alabama was led offensively by freshman Colby Shelton, junior Mac Guscette, and sophomore Will Hodo.

Shelton finished the afternoon 2-for-5 at the plate while driving in five runs. Hodo went 3-for-4 and scored one run for the Tide.

Guscette provided a timely two-run homerun and finished 1-1 at the plate.

On the mound, graduate senior Jacob McNairy struggled to find his groove as he allowed six runs in 3.2 innings pitched. Zane Probst and Braylon Myers helped out of the bullpen by pitching 2.2 innings of scoreless ball.

Alabama improved to 12-0 while the Flames fell to 4-6 on the new season. Brad Bohannon’s squad will return to action for a midweek matchup on the road against Samford. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. CST and airing on ESPN+ on Tuesday night.

Alabama Baseball rallies to defeat High Point 10-6 in Game 2 of series

No. 20 Alabama defeated High Point on Saturday by a final score of 10-6. The Tide trailed 6-0 early on but continued their hot streak at the plate to rally and pick up the win.

The Alabama baseball team had to overcome some adversity to pick up the win on Saturday. The Tide were down 6-0 heading into the fifth inning. High Point plated six runs in the third inning. However, Alabama responded with 10 unanswered runs to win 10-6.

The Tide were led at the plate by fifth-year senior Drew Williamson and junior Dominic Tamez.

Williamson went 2-for-5 with a timely, three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Tamez went 2-for-4 at the plate including a three-run home run to give Alabama the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. That inning was the turning point of the game as Alabama brought across seven runs to go ahead 7-6.

Starting pitcher Ben Hess struggled on the mound, allowing six runs on six hits. He was aided in relief by Connor Ball, Zane Probst, and Braylon Myers. The three combined to throw six innings of scoreless ball while allowing just three hits.

Ball (1-0) picked up the win on the mound in the come-from-behind victory.

Alabama improved to 7-0 while High Point fell to 3-3 on the new season. The two teams will meet again on Sunday afternoon for the series finale. Alabama will be going for the three-game sweep over the Panthers. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. CST and will air on SEC Network+.

Alabama Baseball defeats Tennessee Tech in midweek matchup

No. 20 Alabama defeated Tennessee Tech 7-4 on Tuesday afternoon. The Crimson Tide improved to 4-0.

The Alabama baseball program picked up its fourth win of the season on Tuesday. Brad Bohannon’s squad defeated Tennessee Tech by a final score of 7-4.

Alabama was led offensively by Will Hodo, Andrew Pinckney, and Drew Williamson. The three combined for six hits with five runs batted in.

Pinckney has shined the most for Alabama on the new season. He is hitting over .800 and has been very impactful in the heart of Alabama’s lineup.

On the mound, the Tide pitching staff rendered just two earned runs. The other two runs were unearned.

Relief pitcher Braylon Myers pitched impressively out of the bullpen. He provided 2.2 innings of scoreless relief while allowing only one hit.

Alabama improved to 4-0 while the Golden Eagles fell to 2-2 on the new season. The Tide will return to the Joe for another midweek matchup on Wednesday against Tennessee-Martin. The first pitch is scheduled for 3 CST and will be airing on SEC Network+.
