Ohio State freshman Juni Mobley scores 33 in summer league debut

This kid can get buckets #GoBucks

The Ohio State basketball team knew it was getting a good one when John “Juni” Mobley committed to wearing the Scarlet and Gray. He might be better than it was initially thought.

Mobley played in his first summer league game of the year on Sunday. The matchup featured the true freshman going up against OSU veteran guard Bruce Thornton. Thornton’s team would come out on top by a score of 101-89, but it was Mobley who stole the show.

Mobley poured in 33 points while going 10 of 20 from the floor and draining eight from beyond the arc on 15 attempts. He was also a perfect five for five from the charity stripe.

It was a dazzling start for the true freshman. Clearly, the kid can score and if he keeps this up, he’ll be an immediate contributor for head coach Jake Diebler and the Buckeyes when the season rolls around.

Ohio State basketball commit has perfect summer league game

Chris Holtmann got a good one in the 2024 class. #GoBucks

The Ohio State basketball team has one recruit committed to the 2024 class,  but, boy, does he look like a good one. John “Juni” Mobley Jr. committed to Chris Holtmann and the Buckeyes in the fall and is a top 50 player in the county.

As the AAU summer circuit kicks off, Mobley and his Vegas Elite kicked off the season with the Peach Jam. Mobley led his team to a 17-point victory and finished with 25 points. More impressively, the OSU recruit was perfect from the field, going 9-9 including four of those from beyond the 3-point arc. You can see some of the highlights below courtesy of the B/R Hoops Twitter post.

Mobley attends Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. However, the star combo guard is originally from Reynoldsburg, Ohio. He moved to Vegas during the COVID-19 pandemic.

It has always been a dream of his to play at Ohio State. If he keeps this kind of play up, he’ll be a dream for Buckeye fans as well.

Ohio State basketball gets first commitment for 2024 class

BOOM! In case you missed it, the Buckeyes got their first hoops commitment of the 2024 class. #GoBUcks

It’s deep in the middle of fall and that means everyone’s minds are fixated on Ohio State football in the great state of Ohio, but we shouldn’t lose sight of the fact that basketball season is just around the corner. In fact, the Big Ten had its annual basketball media days this past week out in Minneapolis.

And while we don’t really hear about all the wheels turning in the world of recruiting for Chris Holtmann and the Buckeyes as we get with Ryan Day and football, you can be sure there’s plenty going on.

Case in point, Ohio State received its first commitment of the 2024 class on Sunday when point guard “Juni” Mobley committed to the program.

Out of Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas, Mobley grew up in Ohio and attended Reynoldsburg High School before moving out to the desert in 2020. Attending Ohio State has always been a dream of his and now he can make that happen. He chose the Buckeyes over Creighton, LSU, USC, Xavier, and Arizona State.

Mobley is ranked as the No. 6 point guard and 44th overall prospect in the 2024 class according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings and is an excellent shooter with extended range and playmaking ability. He should fit right in and provide some immediate depth when he does find his way back to Columbus.

He still has room to grow his game even more and it’s great to have a hometown kid find his way back to the banks of the Olentangy.
