Seahawks safety Julian Love wins NFC Defensive Player of the Week

Love had two remarkable clutch interceptions in the fourth quarter, one saving a touchdown and the other clinching the game for the Seahawks.

The man of the hour is Drew Lock, who put together a 92-yard game-winning drive for the Seahawks in their upset victory over the Eagles on Monday night. However, all of Lock’s efforts would have been wasted if it wasn’t for a career-best performance from Seattle safety Julian Love.

Love had two remarkable clutch interceptions in the fourth quarter, one saving a touchdown and the other clinching the game for the Seahawks. For his efforts, Love has been named the NFC’s Defensive Player of the Week.

It’s a well-deserved honor for Love, who’s flown under the radar as part of a talented but underperforming Seahawks defense this year. He now leads the team with four interceptions and has allowed an 82.2 passer rating in coverage. He’s also been relatively reliable as a tackler even as the rest of Seattle’s DBs have struggled in this deparment – Love has missed seven attempts this year (6.6%). He has also been a significant contributor on special teams.

Love has not made a Pro Bowl team yet in his career, but his case for this season is getting stronger every week. His rise has Seattle fans all the more eager to cut ties with embattled strong safety Jamal Adams, who was inactive on Monday night against the Eagles with a knee injury and was not present at the stadium.

The Seahawks pulled off an improbable upset last night over the Eagles. While they willed themselves to a desperately-needed win, there’s obviously a lot of room for this team to improve. While the secondary and the offensive line performed well as a whole, there are some glaring holes and ongoing issues on both sides of the ball.

For one thing, guard Anthony Bradford is the clear weakest link in the chain for the offensive line. Another thing that’s becoming more clear every week is that Bobby Wagner has declined in coverage a great deal. Both players were among the worst performers for the Seahawks this week. Here are the top and bottom five grades on both sides of the ball, according to Pro Football Focus.

Watch: What Drew Lock and the Seahawks told the media after MNF win

Watch what an emotional Drew Lock and his teammates had to say to the media after the game.

The Seahawks looked like they were toast. Trailing Philadelphia by four points with 92 yards to go and two minutes to play, their chances of winning the game and salvaging their season seemed like they were about to vanish. And then Drew Lock, Tyler Lockett, DK Metcalf and Jaxon-Smith Njigba put together an incredible game-winning drive, secured by sensational second clutch interception from safety Julian Love.

The upset victory did more than just keep their playoff hopes alive, it galvanized the team in a way that they haven’t been all season. Don’t believe me? Just watch what an emotional Lock and his teammates had to say to the media after the game.

Drew Lock led a 92-yard drive in the final minute as the Seahawks jarred the Eagles

The victory looked like anything but a lock for Seattle., Then its quarterback found a way for the Seahawks to win at Lumen Field on Monday against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Drew Lock led a season-long 92-yard drive that concluded with a 29-yard TD pass to Jaxon Smith-Njigba with 28 seconds left that gave the Seahawks a 20-17 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles had a last gasp to try and win or tie the game. Jalen Hurts threw a pass that Julian Love made a spectacular interception on to seal the win for Seattle.

Pete Carroll is 8-0 in his head-coaching career against the Eagles.

Studs and duds for Seahawks from their upset win over Eagles

Here are our studs and duds for the Seahawks this week.

The Seahawks just upset the Eagles on Monday Night Football in one of their most memorable come-back wins of the Pete Carroll era. Trailing 17-13 with two minutes to go from their own eight-yard line, they got a gutsy game-winning drive from Drew Lock – who had struggled the entire game up until that point. Defensively they got just enough from a few key players to come out on top.

Here are our studs and duds for the Seahawks this week.

Seahawks snap losing streak, upset Eagles 20-17 in MNF Thriller

Monday night is Seattle’s night! Seahawks remain undefeated (8-0) against Philly under Pete Carroll

There are a lot of “firsts” happening for the Seattle Seahawks and head coach Pete Carroll this season. Last week, the Seahawks lost their fourth-straight game for the first time under Carroll. It was also the first time they’ve lost five-straight total games to the San Francisco 49ers.

But tonight, another key “first” was avoided. The Seahawks have never lost to the Philadelphia Eagles under Pete Carroll, and that record remains untarnished. The Seahawks upset Philadelphia 20-17 on Monday Night Football to improve to 7-7 on the year, keeping their playoff hopes alive.

Carroll has not lost to Philadelphia since December 19th, 1999. He was head coach of the New England Patriots at the time.

Things started rocky for Seattle. The Eagles slowly marched to a 10-0 lead in the first half, completely suffocating time of possession. Two drives, both nearly nine minutes long, left little time for Drew Lock – pressed into starting service last second – to do much of anything.

The Seahawks offense did manage a field goal before halftime, and to start the third quarter their opening drive resulted in a touchdown to tie the game 10-10. Regrettably, the defense immediately allowed the Eagles to find the end zone. But that’s all she wrote for the Birds.

Seattle’s defense clamped down, not allowing Philly to score one more point. Coming up huge for them was safety Julian Love, starting in the place of Jamal Adams. An interception in the end zone gave the Seahawks new life trailing 17-13 with a little over eight minutes left in the game.

Seattle’s offense went three-and-out, and the ball was back to Philly. But another incredible stop on third down gave Drew Lock and Co. one last chance. One was all they needed.

Down four points with 1:52 left in the game and only one time out, Lock marched the Seahawks 92 yards on 10 plays to give them a touchdown. Lock found DK Metcalf for a massive gain, then later, striking Jaxon Smith-Njigba for a 29-yard game-winning touchdown.

With Philadelphia down 20-17 with less than 30 seconds left, they were on desperation mode. But it was cut short when Julian Love intercepted Hurts for the second time of the night to call game.

The Seahawks have new life. There is still a long ways to go to make the playoffs, and they’ll need help along the way. But with three winnable games left on the schedule – Tennessee, Pittsburgh, and Arizona – the playoffs are attainable for Seattle.

7 Seahawks highlights from their latest loss to the 49ers

Here are the highlights for the Seahawks this week.

The Seattle Seahawks lost to the San Francisco 49ers once again today, falling on the road by a score of 28-16. However, they did get some surprise strong performances from role players such as safety Julian Love and tight end Colby Parkinson.

Here are the highlights for the Seahawks this week.

Watch: Seahawks safety Julian Love on what Brock Purdy is doing well

Here’s Seattle safety Julian Love talking about what Brock Purdy does well at Tuesday’s press conference.

If the Seahawks are going to upset the visiting 49ers on Thursday night, their best chance to do so will be getting second-year quarterback Brock Purdy off his game. San Francisco is about as loaded as any NFL team at the skill positions, and if nothing else Purdy has done a good job of getting the ball to those playmakers and letting them do their thing.

Here’s Seattle safety Julian Love talking about what Purdy does well at Tuesday’s press conference.

Then again, this is sort-of damning with faint praise. Purdy runs Kyle Shanahan’s system as well as anyone has since Matt Ryan in his MVP year in Atlanta, but he’s benefitted from that scheme – to say nothing of having the likes of Deebo Samuel, George Kittle and Christian McCaffrey to target.

Purdy’s numbers are admittedly outstanding, but they’re artificially boosted by those skill players as well as Shanahan’s playcalling, which gives Purdy the advantage of throwing to wide open receivers at a rate far higher than any other starting QB in the NFL.

Weaknesses include a relative lack of size, athleticism and arm strength. Purdy’s passes can be tipped at the line of scrimmage by a busy iDL unit and he’ll miss an inordinate number of layup throws. Getting pressure on Purdy and forcing him to prove himself on third and longs will be critical if the Seahawks are going to have any chance to win this.

5 impact Giants from 2022 who have vanished in 2023

The 2022 New York Giants surprised the football world by picking up a playoff victory but these 5 impacts players have vanished in 2023.

The New York Giants came into the 2023 season with high hopes after experiencing their first playoff appearance since 2016 last season.

Those hopes have been dashed — and then some — as the Giants have opened the 2023 season with a 2-8 record and are on course to have one of their worst seasons in franchise history.

That didn’t happen in a vacuum. Injuries, poor coaching and personnel choices, and yes, player underperformance, have all contributed to the club’s rapid demise.

Here are five players who contributed heavily in 2022 that have ‘vanished’ this season.
