One ex-Chiefs player to participate in USFL title game

A former #Chiefs defensive back will take the field for the Birmingham Stallions in Sunday evening’s USFL championship game.

Only one former Kansas City Chiefs player will take the field when the Philadelphia Stars take on the Birmingham Stallions in the USFL’s championship game on Sunday.

Josh Shaw was signed by the Chiefs in early October of 2018, shortly after the team sent tight end Alex Ellis to injured reserve. Kansas City was looking for any sort of defensive spark in the secondary that season, which would be the last under former Chiefs defensive coordinator Bob Sutton. They weren’t very healthy at the safety position with injuries to both Daniel Sorensen and Eric Berry, which is why the team opted to add Shaw.

Shaw played a total of four games with the Chiefs during the 2018 NFL season, recording just four combined tackles. Most of his snaps came on special teams, but he did get a chance to play some defense for Kansas City. He gave up a big play to now-retired NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski. Shaw was eventually waived in the second week of November and would finish the season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Shaw has excelled with the Birmingham Stallions, where he was selected in the eighth round, pick 61 overall in the USFL draft. He recorded 34 total tackles during the regular season, plus a game-sealing interception to extend his team’s undefeated streak.

Tonight, Shaw will get a chance to become a champion in the upstart league and will be the only former Chiefs player with that opportunity.

Seahawks work out two free agent cornerbacks and a tight end

These are the three players who worked out for Seattle on Tuesday.

The Seahawks got a look at a few free agents today, with a clear eye on potentially adding more size to their beleaguered cornerback room.

These are the three players who worked out for Seattle on Tuesday.

CB Josh Shaw: 6-foot-1, 200 pounds

Shaw is the most experienced of the bunch. The Bengals selected him in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL draft. He’s appeared in 55 career games, posting one interception and seven passes defensed. Shaw allowed a 113.7 passer rating last season, playing four games each for the Chiefs and Bucs.

CB Simeon Thomas: 6-foot-3, 197 pounds

Thomas was a sixth-round pick by the Browns back in 2018. He has previously spent time on the Seahawks’ practice squad after they claimed him off waivers from Cleveland. He’s played 12 games – all for Washington – totaling eight tackles in limited action.

TE Ryan Izzo: 6-foot-5, 225 pounds

The Patriots picked Izzo in the seventh round of the 2018 draft. He’s caught 19 passes for 313 yards and a touchdown in 18 games. Seattle’s interest could mean Colby Parkinson (foot) will be out for a while longer.

Former Cardinals CB Josh Shaw reinstated by NFL

He spent 2020 out of the league after having bet on NFL games in 2019.

Arizona Cardinals fans might not remember cornerback Josh Shaw. He was signed in 2019 and landed on injured reserve before the season. At the conclusion of the season, there was the announcement that Shaw was suspended for at least a year by the NFL due to gambling violations. He bet on NFL games once.

Shaw has served his suspension and has been reinstated. He now is a free agent.

Shaw, depending on how the Cardinals organization views his suspension, could be someone who could return. He knows defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, having been with the team one year already and having been coached by him in Cincinnati.

He has positional flexibility, as he can play cornerback, nickel and safety.

As the Cardinals have hardly anyone at cornerback on the roster. He could be someone to compete for depth and potentially play on special teams.

A year away from the league and having been on two teams in 2018, we will see if he is able to find himself on an NFL roster this year.

Report: Josh Shaw bet on a Cardinals game

The bet that got him suspended was a three-team parlay that included the game between the Cardinals and Buccaneers.

[jwplayer xr2BPSUF-ThvAeFxT]

The NFL announced on Friday that Arizona Cardinals defensive back Josh Shaw has been suspended for betting on NFL games. After its investigation, it was determined there was no insider information used and no games were compromised.

However, according to ESPN’s David Purdum, Shaw actually bet on the Cardinals.

It was part of a three-team parlay bet that he lost.

Shaw, who has been on injured reserve since August and has not played since signing with the Cardinals in March, made the parlay bet on Sunday, Nov. 10, at a Caesars sportsbook in Las Vegas, according to the sources. The bet was on the second halves of three Week 10 games, the sources said, and included the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who were leading the Cardinals 17-13 at halftime. The Buccaneers were 1-point favorites for the second half. They failed to cover the second-half spread but went on to defeat the Cardinals 30-27. Shaw’s bet lost, according to the sources.

Shaw did not hide the fact he is an NFL player. The sportsbook contacted the NFL shortly after the bet and that triggered the investigation that led to the suspension announced on November 29.

The Cardinals did not know of the investigation prior to the announcement of the suspension.

Shaw is suspended indefinitely, but at least through the 2020 season. He may apply for reinstatement in February 2021.

WATCH: Report: Arizona’s Josh Shaw bet against the Cardinals

Arizona Cardinal defensive back, Josh Shaw, bet against his own team in a wager that has him suspended through at least the end of the 2020 season.

Last week, Josh Shaw was handed the first suspension for betting on NFL games that the league has dished out since 1983. Turns out, the Arizona Cardinals defensive back bet against his own team in the wager that has him suspended through at least the end of the 2020 season.

Multiple sources told ESPN, “A three-team parlay that included an Arizona Cardinals game led the NFL in part to suspend Cardinals defensive back Josh Shaw for violating the league’s gambling policy.”

Shaw reportedly placed a bet on the second halves of three games on Nov. 10. The 27-year-old made the bet at a Caesars sportsbook in Las Vegas while the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were leading the Cardinals 17-13 at halftime.

ESPN reports, “The Buccaneers were 1-point favorites for the second half. They failed to cover the second-half spread but went on to defeat the Cardinals 30-27. Shaw’s bet lost, according to the sources.”

Shaw signed a one-year contract with the Cardinals in March and was placed on injured reserve on Aug. 25 with a shoulder injury.

Shaw can petition for reinstatement on or after Feb. 15, 2021.

Former Buccaneers CB Josh Shaw suspended indefinitely for betting on NFL games

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Josh Shaw was suspended indefinitely by the NFL for betting on multiple games this season.

Josh Shaw, who appeared in four games for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last year, has been suspended indefinitely through at least the conclusion of the 2020 season for betting on NFL games multiple times this season.

The NFL found no evidence to suggest that any of Shaw’s current coaches or teammates with the Arizona Cardinals knew of his betting activity, and that no inside information was used. Shaw was put on injured reserve by the Cardinals back on Aug. 25 and hasn’t been around the team much this season.

Shaw had eight total tackles while with the Bucs, including seven solo, to go along with one fumble recovery. He was a fourth-round pick by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2015 NFL Draft.

If Shaw’s name sounds familiar, you might remember him for making headlines in 2014 when he was at USC. He suffered a high ankle sprain when he jumped from a second-story apartment to save his 7-year-old nephew in a pool, or so he said. He later admitted to lying about that story and was suspended indefinitely by the school.

Don’t bet on this guy getting back into the NFL anytime soon (no pun intended).

NFL suspends Cardinals cornerback Josh Shaw through 2020 season for betting on games

The National Football League announced it is suspending Arizona Cardinals cornerback Josh Shaw through at least the entirety of the 2020 season for betting on NFL games. The league said it uncovered that Shaw bet on NFL games “on multiple occasions …

The National Football League announced it is suspending Arizona Cardinals cornerback Josh Shaw through at least the entirety of the 2020 season for betting on NFL games.

The league said it uncovered that Shaw bet on NFL games “on multiple occasions this season,” but investigation found no evidence indicating that Shaw used any insider information, or that any game was compromised in any way.

The league also said it couldn’t find evidence that indicated that Shaw’s teammates, coaches, or any other players were aware of his betting activity.

"The continued success of the NFL depends directly on each of us doing everything necessary to safeguard the integrity of the game and the reputations of all who participate in the league,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said Friday in a statement.

“At the core of this responsibility is the longstanding principle that betting on NFL games, or on any element of a game, puts at risk the integrity of the game, damages public confidence in the NFL, and is forbidden under all circumstances."

The Cardinals had signed Shaw in March, but he landed on injured reserve after suffering a shoulder injury in the preseason opener against the Los Angeles Chargers on August 8.

The NFL said Shaw may petition for reinstatement to the league on or after Feb. 15, 2021. He may appeal the suspension within three days from Friday, according to the collective bargaining agreement jointly agreed to by the NFL and NFL Players Association.

This isn’t the first time Shaw has come under scrutiny. In August 2014, while he was a member of USC’s football program and shortly after he had been named a captain as a senior, Shaw admitted to lying about a story in which he had said he injured his ankles while jumping into a pool to save his drowning nephew. He later revealed that got hurt when he jumped from a balcony in Los Angeles.

A 2015 fourth-round selection for the Cincinnati Bengals, Shaw, 27, has appeared in 55 games with the Bengals, Chiefs and Buccaneers.

Former Bengals draft pick Josh Shaw suspended for betting on NFL games

A former Bengals player was suspended Friday.

Former Cincinnati Bengals draft pick Josh Shaw has been suspended from the NFL through the 2020 season for betting on games.

Shaw, a fourth-round pick by the Bengals in 2015 and current member of the Arizona Cardinals, received the indefinite ban through at least 2020 by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

The NFL issued a statement:

“The continued success of the NFL depends directly on each of us doing everything necessary to safeguard the integrity of the game and the reputations of all who participate in the league. At the core of this responsibility is the longstanding principle that betting on NFL games, or on any element of a game, puts at risk the integrity of the game, damages public confidence in the NFL, and is forbidden under all circumstances,” Goodell said. “If you work in the NFL in any capacity, you may not bet on NFL football.”

Shaw, 27, joined the Cardinals this past offseason to reunite with defensive coordinator Vance Joseph. He had spent three seasons in Cincinnati after coming off the board 120th in 2015 before bouncing around with multiple teams in 2018.
