Josh Richardson diagnosed with concussion after leaving Clippers game

The shorthanded Sixers are dealing with more injury problems as Josh Richardson has been diagnosed with a concussion.

The shorthanded Philadelphia 76ers put up a valiant effort Sunday afternoon against the Los Angeles Clippers, coming up just short in a 136-130 loss. Unfortunately, the already injury-plagued Sixers didn’t make it out of the game healthy.

Josh Richardson left the game in the second quarter after colliding with teammate Alec Burks. Richardson sat on the court for an extended period of time before walking off with a towel covering his face. The Sixers quickly ruled Richardson out for the rest of the game with what was called a “nose contusion,” and now we have learned it’s a bit more serious than that as the team announced he has a concussion and has been placed in the league’s concussion protocol.

Obviously, this is the last thing the Sixers need right now as they are already without Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons and have another tough game against the Lakers coming up on Tuesday.

As Sixers Wire’s Ky Carlin notes, Richardson will be reassessed tomorrow, and hopefully, he will return sooner than later as the Sixers jockey for playoff positioning and try to build some momentum heading into the postseason. [lawrence-related id=26871,26854]

Josh Richardson to remain out Thursday against Wizards

Sixers guard Josh Richardson will miss his fourth straight game when the team takes on the Wizards on Thursday.

Things have been going reasonably well for the Philadelphia 76ers recently, as the team has won four-straight games and eight of their last nine to run their record to 15-6. But it hasn’t been all good for the team.

The Sixers have been without guard Josh Richardson since he injured himself in last Wednesday’s win over the Sacramento Kings, and the team announced he will miss his fourth straight game Thursday against the Wizards. The ailment has officially been described as “right hamstring tightness” by the team. It’s worth noting that this is the second time this season Richardson has been sidelined with an upper leg/hip issue.

Considering the franchise’s recent history with injuries, and with being upfront publicly about them, it’s fair if Sixers fans feel a bit of concern creeping in.

Still, the team maintains that it is simply taking a cautious approach with Richardson, and he has been participating in individual workouts the past few days.

Richardson is averaging 16.1 points, 3.6 assists, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.1 steals this season. We’ll await an update on his status for Saturday’s game against the Cavaliers. [lawrence-related id=20148,19973,19957,19949]

Josh Richardson out for remainder of Kings game with hamstring tightness

Sixers guard Josh Richardson did not start the second half Wednesday night and the team subsequently announced he would not return.

The Philadelphia 76ers find themselves locked in a tight contest with the Sacramento Kings Wednesday night at Wells Fargo Center, and they will now be trying to secure the victory and preserve their perfect record at home without one of their starters.

The team announced that guard Josh Richardson would not return to the game after suffering right hamstring tightness. You probably recall Richardson recently missed a pair of games with what was called right hip flexor tightness. It’s unclear if Wednesday’s ailment is a reappearance of that issue or is related in any way, but it’s worth noting that the latest issue is in the same area as the previous one.

Richardson did stay on the bench in uniform, so hopefully, this is more precautionary than anything else. We’ll have to wait for an update from the team after the game to gain some clarity on if the issues are related.

Furkan Korkmaz started the second half in Richardson’s place, and Matisse Thybulle has seen increased minutes in the third quarter as well.
