Browns add Kenyan Drake among a flurry of practice squad roster moves

Cleveland has re-arranged their practice squad

The Cleveland Browns, on the day of the trade deadline, have been quite busy. However, none of it has anything to do with making a trade. Instead, the Browns have made a flurry of moves to their practice squad roster, including the addition of veteran running back Kenyan Drake. The former Alabama running back was in Cleveland for a workout last week, and now finally lands on the practice squad a few days later.

Drake teased his signing to the Browns this morning on Twitter, but now the news is officially official. While the Browns have been busy reconstructing their practice squad, do not discount general manager Andrew Berry from making a trade before the 4 PM deadline today. The team is rumored to be interested in bringing back quarterback Jacoby Brissett, as well as dipping their toes in the wide receiver market.

For now, however, here are all of the moves the Browns made to their practice squad today.

Browns elevate RB Jordan Wilkins and OT Ty Nsekhe from practice squad vs. Seahawks

The Cleveland Browns brought up running back Jordan Wilkins and offensive tackle Ty Nsekhe for some much-needed depth in Week 8.

The Cleveland Browns elevated two practice squad players to the active roster ahead of their Week 8 matchup with the Seattle Seahawks. Cleveland elevated running back Jordan Wilkins and offensive tackle Ty Nsekhe, the team announced Saturday, to provide some much-needed depth in the face of a few injuries on offense.

Wilkins spent time with the Browns during the preseason and was officially signed to the practice squad on Oct. 24. He previously played four games for the Indianapolis Colts in 2022 and from 2018-2020. Wilkins played one season with the Tennessee Titans in 2021. For his career, Wilkins has rushed 208 times for 1,009 yards and four touchdowns. He could see action if Jerome Ford, who’s questionable with an ankle injury, cannot suit up on Sunday. Kareem Hunt and Pierre Strong Jr. would be the other two running backs.

Similarly, Nsekhe could see action if fellow offensive tackle Jedrick Wills (ankle, foot) cannot play. Nsekhe had been activated once this season already after the Browns brought him up from the practice squad for Week 3 against the Titans. He played five special team snaps in the 27-3 win for Cleveland. The 38-year-old Nsekhe previously played for Washington Commanders, Buffalo Bills, Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles/St. Louis Rams with 25 career starts.

Report: Browns bring back RB Jordan Wilkins to the practice squad

A new (old) running back has been added to the practice squad

The Cleveland Browns make a roster move. While it is to their practice squad, The OBR’s Brad Stainbrook is reporting that running back Jordan Wilkins is heading back to Cleveland. Wilkins, of course, was on the roster during training camp, and even got a starting opportunity in the final preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Wilkins fumbled twice in that game and was eventually cut from the roster as the Browns outsourced their third running back job by acquiring Pierre Strong Jr. from the New England Patriots. The Browns had a vacancy on their practice squad after signing fellow running back Deon Jackson to the active roster just to release him just a few days later.

Do not expect this to be the only roster move the Browns make this week as the NFL trade deadline nears, and as they work through a handful of injuries to key players.

5 players to watch in the preseason finale vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Which players need to perform the best on Saturday?

It has been a fun preseason for the Cleveland Browns who have already played three having beat the New York Jets in the Pro Football Hall of Fame game. The team still lacks a lot of answers at the running back position behind Nick Chubb. Jordan Wilkins has the best chance to earn a roster spot in Saturday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs as the team searches for playable running backs.

The linebacker room has the most questions with young players and special teams contributors. Could the Browns keep multiple undrafted free agents to make the final 53-man roster?

Here’s a look at the five players with the most to gain from a positive appearance in the final preseason game.

PFF’s 10 highest-graded Browns on offense vs. the Eagles

Who shined the most on offense against the Eagles

After several brutal practices with the Eagles in Philadelphia, the Cleveland Browns faced them in their third preseason game on Thursday night. The Austin Watkins Jr. story continued as he made even more impressive plays this week.

He understands how to attack a defense and mixes good size and body control with reliable hands making his case for why he should make the roster. Whether he makes it here or somewhere else Watkins Jr. will be on an active roster this year.

Outside of that, the offensive line depth continued to play at a high level with the two Ohio State rookies, Luke Wypler and Dawand Jones, playing well again. How did the top offensive players grade out in Philadelphia according to those at PFF?

Browns follow up loss vs. Commanders with plethora of roster moves

The Browns made a flurry of roster moves.

The Cleveland Browns have battled injuries all training camp, and that did not slow down as they took on the Washington Commanders on Friday night. It has resulted in linebacker Jacob Phillips landing on Injured Reserve among other roster moves the team was forced to make to fill their 90-man roster back up.

Here are all four roster moves the Browns made today as they continue to work through injuries.

Browns sign RB Jordan Wilkins after workout earlier this week

The Browns have added another RB to the roster

After working out five earlier this week, the Cleveland Browns have signed one of the players brought in (according to Aaron Wilson). A former ball carrier of the Indianapolis Colts, Jordan Wilkins will now head to Berea looking to make the team halfway through training camp. This need for another running back is predominantly due to the hamstring injury of Jerome Ford which has him listed as week-to-week.

Wilkins has been predominantly sidelined for the last two years but showed flashes of excitement as a receiving back and special teamer with the Indianapolis Colts from 2018-2022. He has racked up 1,009 yards rushing and four touchdowns in his career, adding another 41 catches out of the backfield.

Browns workout Jordan Wilkins, 4 others as they continue to deal with injuries

We knew about Wilkins, but it turns out the Browns had a total of five in for a workout.

The Cleveland Browns are stuck in a hard place as they continue to work through injuries to young players like running back Jerome Ford. They had a handful in for workouts yesterday as a result. We knew about former Indianapolis Colts running back Jordan Wilkins coming in for a workout, but according to Aaron Wilson, the Browns had four others in the building as well.

Here is the full list of the five players who were in Berea trying to earn a spot on Cleveland’s 90-man roster.

Browns working out former Colts running back after Jerome Ford injury

The Browns are bringing in a veteran running back for a workout after the injury to Jerome Ford.

The Cleveland Browns are perusing the free agent running back market after second-year running back Jerome Ford went down with a hamstring injury in practice. With Demetric Felton, John Kelly Jr., and Hassan Hall on the roster behind Nick Chubb, the team is working out former Indianapolis Colts running back Jordan Wilkins (according to Aaron Wilson).

The 28-year-old running back carried the ball just 13 times last year for the Colts after being a healthy scratch for most of the 2021 season. Spending most of his time as a return man as well, Wilkins could also fill Ford’s role on kickoff returns if necessary.

Colts promote RB Jake Funk from practice squad

The Colts promoted RB Jake Funk from the practice squad.

The Indianapolis Colts promoted running back Jake Funk from the practice squad to the active roster and waived running back Jordan Wilkins. They also signed safety Sheldrick Redwine to the practice squad.

Funk was a seventh-round pick with the Los Angeles Rams in the 2021 NFL draft. He missed the majority of his rookie season due to a hamstring injury but was activated just before the playoff run that ended in a Super Bowl win.

Funk was waived in October by the Rams and spent roughly a month on the practice squad of the New Orleans Saints. He signed with the Colts’ practice squad in December.

Funk hasn’t taken a carry yet this season and only has two carries for five yards in his career.
