New predictions roll in for Michigan football recruiting in 2024

We’re getting a better idea of who will end up in this class. #GoBlue

Michigan football is working diligently on the recruiting trail, hosting camps this week before yet another big official visit weekend.

Last weekend featured a duo of five-stars making their way to campus as well as one of the top defensive backs in the state of Ohio. This week will see another top defensive back from the Buckeye state make his way to Ann Arbor.

Now that some prospects have managed to see everything Michigan has to offer, there appears to be movement in their recruitments.

The likely running back No. 2

2024 Longview (Texas) four-star running back Taylor Tatum, one of the top tailbacks in the country, had been trending to the maize and blue. However, USC upped the ante in its courtship of the elite runner, leading to the Wolverines seemingly pursuing Las Vegas (Nevada) Bishop Gorman three-star RB Micah Ka’apana with more vigor.

Ka’apana was on campus this past weekend and was getting buzz that he could end up in Ann Arbor sooner than later.

Well, there are more signs indicating he could wear a winged helmet, with The Michigan Insider’s Steve Lorenz and Sam Webb both putting in 247Sports crystal ball predictions on Thursday for Ka’apana to the Wolverines.

He has three predictions indicating Michigan will be the choice, with 247Sports director of recruiting Steve Wiltfong rounding out the prognostications.

Is a familiar pass catcher destined to come to Ann Arbor?

Michigan is already trending for Chicago-based wide receiver I’Marion Stewart (who will make his announcement on Friday), and has legacy Channing Goodwin — teammate of QB commit Jadyn Davis at Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day — pledged. But Davis and Goodwin have a teammate that could also wear a winged helmet at the next level.

Jordan Shipp, a four-star rated No. 15 overall per the 247Sports composite, visited Ann Arbor on June 2, but he still had key visits on the horizon, particularly in-state North Carolina last weekend.

However, Steve Lorenz put in a prediction for Shipp to Michigan on Wednesday, and Brice Marich added to the chorus on Thursday.

Sam Webb put in a prediction on June 6.

Another Ohio native stolen from the Buckeyes?

After visiting Ann Arbor this past weekend, Cincinnati native Elias Rudolph, who now plays at Deerfield Beach (Florida), started to look less and less like a lock to Ohio State. So much so that the predictions have come pouring in for him to end up in Ann Arbor rather than Columbus.

Though Rudolph still has a prediction from Bucknuts’ Bill Kurelic to end up in scarlet and gray, he has three 247Sports crystal ball predictions to one that he’ll end up wearing maize and blue instead, as Steve Lorenz placed his bet on Michigan on Wednesday.

Watch: This Jadyn Davis dart to Jordan Shipp highlights 5-touchdown performance

Watch: Providence Day (N.C.) quarterback Jadyn Davis throws a dart to Jordan Shipp for a touchdown, one of five in the game.

Three of the top four quarterbacks in the class of 2024 have already made their college commitments – Dylan Raiola to Ohio State, CJ Carr to Notre Dame and most recently Julian Sayin to Alabama. Providence Day (N.C.) star Jadyn Davis (ranked No. 2 at QB) is the best that’s still undecided.

Davis’ stock got another bump this past weekend. Watch this dart thrown by Davis find wide receiver Jordan Shipp for their third touchdown connection of the game.

Providence Day went on to beat Charlotte Country Day School (N.C.) 56-7, improving to 10-1 on the year.

Davis (6-foot-1, 190 pounds) finished the night with a line of 11/14 (78.6%) for 202 yards, five touchdown passes and a QB rating of 159.2. So far he has 31 reported college offers. Tennessee, Penn State and North Carolina are all in the conversation, but Michigan is the favorite to get him.

Shipp (6-foot-2, 195 pounds) ended the evening with seven catches, 63 yards and three scores. He’s ranked No. 49 among 2024 wide receivers and has 18 reported offers, including Michigan and several Carolina-area schools.

4-star Carolinas receiver ‘definitely’ interested in Clemson, plans to visit soon

The Clemson Insider recently caught up with a four-star Carolinas wide receiver, who plans on making his way back to Clemson this summer and has a good chance at earning an offer from the Tigers.

Clemson offensive coordinator Brandon Streeter stopped by Charlotte’s Providence Day School last week and had the chance to watch rising junior receivers Jordan Shipp and Channing Goodwin run some routes for the nation’s No. 1 ranked quarterback in the class of 2024, Jadyn Davis.

“He said he loved it,” Shipp said. “He said Jadyn did really well and me and Channing did pretty good too. They said they’ll be in pretty contact with us pretty soon.”

That meant a lot to Shipp, who called it a “blessing” to receive that type of feedback from Clemson’s offensive coordinator.

Shipp is unsure if he’ll do any camps this summer, but is certain that he would like to get back down to Clemson at some point in the near future. Shipp is hoping that his next visit to Tiger Town will allow him to better his relationship with Tyler Grisham and the rest of Clemson’s offensive staff.

When Shipp visits Clemson, he’ll almost certainly be accompanied by his teammates in Davis, Goodwin and David Sanders, Jr.

“We’ll definitely probably end up going together,” Shipp said. “Because most of the time, we like doing our visits in groups, so we all can talk about it afterward. Just being able to go to a great college with some people that I know I’m gonna be with for the next two or three years, I love it. I don’t think there’s anything better than that.”

Shipp has talked about teaming up with Goodwin, his wide receiver counterpart, at the next level. They’re already a more than formidable duo and are looking to be even better with someone like Davis under center.

While Providence Day doesn’t have spring practice, Shipp and Goodwin have been running routes for Davis after school, just to make sure that they’re getting that chemistry and timing down for the season.

“We have a great chance this year,” he said. “I know there’s a lot of teams gunning for us because we’re the team with all these four stars and all these stars and offers on our team. That’s always a good thing to have. I’d rather have people coming after us instead of us being the underdog all the time.”

There will be very few days this summer that Shipp isn’t putting in work, in preparation for the season.

As far as his recruitment is concerned, Shipp said that N.C. State, Michigan and Wake Forest are the schools that have been coming after him the hardest. In the meantime, Shipp has seen things start to heat up, as he’s picked up offers from Maryland, Western Kentucky, Mizzou, Boston College and Georgia Tech, all within the past week.

Shipp picked up those first three offers all at the same time. He came to school last Wednesday preparing to take his end-of-year exams and found out afterward that he had a new trio of offers.

What would it mean for Shipp and his recruitment if he earned an offer from Clemson when he visits this summer?

“It would mean a lot,” he said, “knowing the big names that’s came out of there and being able to know that I would graduate with a degree from Clemson just means a lot because that’s definitely a school that I’m interested in for sure.”

In addition to Clemson, Shipp is planning to visit Michigan, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, N.C. State, Wake Forest and North Carolina A&T. He also indicated that he could visit both Maryland and Western Kentucky as well.

4-star Carolinas wideout explains what ‘stood out’ about Clemson during visit

The Clemson Insider caught up with a talented Tar Heel State receiver who made his first ever visit to Tiger Town this past weekend.

Providence Day (Charlotte, N.C.) four-star Jordan Shipp — a 6-foot-2, 185 — pound sophomore in the class of 2024 – was on campus at Clemson for an unofficial visit Saturday, March 12.

“It was good,” Shipp said. “I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed it a lot. I would say what stood out the most was how they don’t offer the ’24s. That’s what stood out the most. That’s probably one of the only schools I’ve heard of that don’t, but their reasoning is really good. That stood out a lot.”

Obviously, Shipp would love to have an offer from Clemson, but he’s appreciative that the Tigers want to build a relationship with him and that level of honesty goes a long way.

According to Shipp, once Tyler Grisham can finally start reaching out to him come Sept. 1, Clemson’s wide receivers coach really wants to build a relationship and make sure Shipp gets back for camp and another visit. He also wants Shipp to come for a game-day visit.

What does that mean to Shipp?

“It meant a lot because knowing that that’s one of the most powerful schools in the country,” Shipp said, “and being able to talk to the head coach of it all for so long and being able to talk with the position coach and him kind of know who I am, that just meant a lot. That was real special.”

Shipp revealed that his favorite part of the visit was getting to talk with Grisham.

“Being able to watch them practice and him being active in the practice,” Shipp said. “He was talking about how he likes to build relationships with his guys and how he still talks to his guys after they graduate, how he still talks to Tee Higgins and all those guys after they graduate.

“It also stood out was how Coach Dabo tries to make sure you get your diploma. That meant a lot too. That meant that it’s way more than football at Clemson.”

While it’s way more than just football at Clemson, the level of talent that has come out of Tiger Town is definitely eye-opening to Shipp.

“When I see Tee Higgins, I see myself in what Tee Higgins does,” Shipp said.  “How he’s able to make spectacular catches, of course, he’s not like the fastest, but he’s quick enough to do what he does. His route running is so smooth. I see a lot of myself in that and more so seeing what he was able to do in that system really opened up knowing that I can go and do that same thing.”

Shipp wasn’t the only Providence Day product on campus. He was accompanied by a litany of his teammates, who are all being recruited by Clemson.

“We’re all trying to make sure we get back up there, like as soon as possible,” Shipp said. “We’ll probably all go to camp together and we’ll probably try and go to a game day visit together, so we all can just stay together and enjoy the big moments.”

Shipp was on campus with his quarterback, Jadyn Davis, who recently transferred from Catawba Ridge (Fort Mill, S.C.) to Providence Day.

Clemson previously played host to Davis for the Wake Forest game last November. He also participated in the Dabo Swinney Camp last June.

As for Davis, he is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 1 overall prospect in the country for the 2024 class, regardless of position.

“I can’t wait,” Shipp said of playing with Davis. “Now that that’s my quarterback and being able to see him work and everything, I love it. He’s just that guy. He just makes sure everything is going smooth and he’s definitely going to be one of the leaders on the team for sure.”

Shipp is happy that he can focus on playing the wide receiver position and is excited to see what his junior season will hold for he and his teammates.
