Notre Dame released its Week 2 depth chart vs. Northern Illinois down a starter

The Irish will be without at least one starter vs. Northern Illinois

Notre Dame football won its won its Week 1 game on the road against Texas A&M, and now has turned its focus to Northern Illinois.

The Huskies will visit South Bend this coming weekend, and the Irish released their depth chart for the game. There is one notable omission from the first week to this one, wide receiver [autotag]Jordan Faison[/autotag].

After suffering a lower-body injury against the Aggies, head coach Marcus Freeman didn’t believe it was a long-term ailment. Hopefully he is correct with his assessment, as the sophomore doesn’t look like he’ll see the field this weekend as he works towards a full recovery.

What’s also interesting is that tight end [autotag]Mitchell Evans[/autotag] is listed as the starter, while he didn’t play this past weekend due to an injury. This obviously could change as the game gets closer.

Marcus Freeman updates wide receiver Jordan Faison’s injury status

Faison limped off during the second quarter

While Notre Dame football won its season opener against the Texas A&M Aggies, 23-13, on Saturday night, it was all good news for the Irish.

During the game one of the team’s top expected wide receivers, [autotag]Jordan Faison[/autotag], caught a pass and went down awkwardly. He limped off the field and appeared in some pain. We didn’t see the two-sport star for the rest of the game.

Following the contest, head coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] gave a somewhat vague update on Faison’s status, saying he was going to be OK and that he shouldn’t be out long due to a lower body injury.

Clearly he didn’t give specifics as to what the issue is, which I’m sure we will find out exactly what the ailment is in the coming days. Until then, we should expect the sophomore receiver back on the field soon.

ESPN: Receiver is Notre Dame’s biggest question mark

Hope the Irish can make strides in that this season.

No matter how good a college football team is, there always is a weakness the opposition looks to exploit. Notre Dame is no exception.

ESPN has determined what it believes to be the biggest question mark for each team in its post-spring Top 25. Notre Dame was fifth on that list, and David Hale is the writer who listed receiver as the most pressing issue for the Irish. He elaborated this way:

“There’s room for optimism with this receivers corps, which includes the addition of transfers [autotag]Beaux Collins[/autotag] (Clemson) and [autotag]Kris Mitchell[/autotag] (FIU), along with holdovers [autotag]Jordan Faison[/autotag], [autotag]Jaden Greathouse[/autotag] and [autotag]Jayden Thomas[/autotag]. But last year’s leading wideouts, Chris Tyree and Rico Flores Jr., both transferred, and it was a unit that struggled often even with them. No wide receiver caught more than 27 passes in 2022 or 2023. Notre Dame hasn’t had a 1,000-yard receiver since [autotag]Chase Claypool[/autotag] in 2019.

With [autotag]Riley Leonard[/autotag]’s legs, a big O-line and a talented backfield (not to mention a burgeoning star in tight end [autotag]Mitchell Evans[/autotag]), there’s not a ton of pressure on the receivers to put up earth-shattering numbers, but genuine progress will be critical to an Irish offense that lost three games last season all scoring 23 points or less. In those three games, the wide receivers combined for just two touchdown grabs and none had more than four catches in any one game.”

It’s a fair assessment, and the Irish have taken steps to address receive with five freshman receivers new to the program in 2024, including [autotag]Cam Williams[/autotag] and [autotag]Micah Gilbert[/autotag]. Results might not happen right away, but at least the Irish were aware of this Achilles’ heel with their offense. It will be a fun group to watch develop.

Three Notre Dame lacrosse players make Lacrosse Network’s Dream Team

Congrats to the trio of Irish recipients

Fresh off defending its National Championship, Notre Dame lacrosse players were bound for more recognition.

That’s exactly what happened on Thursday afternoon, as The Lacrosse Network announced its inaugural Dream Team. Three Notre Dame players made the list: goalie [autotag]Liam Entenmann[/autotag], midfielder [autotag]Jordan Faison[/autotag] and attacker [autotag]Pat Kavanagh[/autotag].

It should come as no surprise that the three were honored, as they led the Irish’s charge all year long. Kavanagh’s list of accolades just increased, as he was already the ACC Offensive Player of the Year, a first-team All-American, won the programs first Tewaaraton Award while setting the Notre Dame career points and assists records.

Congrats to the three Irish stars on a massively successful season.

Could Notre Dame football’s newest commitment Mark Zackery play two sports in South Bend?

Another multi-sport athlete is heading to South Bend

It is not uncommon for Notre Dame athletes to play two sports, and on Monday was a perfect example of that as football and lacrosse star [autotag]Jordan Faison[/autotag] helped the Irish win a National Title.

Luminary names like Jeff Samardzija and Cole Kmet played football and baseball, and Notre Dame’s newest football commit could follow in their paths. Indianapolis cornerback [autotag]Mark Zackery[/autotag] verballed to the Irish on Saturday, but not many know that he could potentially play basketball at the next level as well.

It has been reported by Notre Dame Hoops Recruits that Zackery and basketball head coach Micah Schrewsberry have been in communication about playing on the hardwood as well.

It remains to be seen if Zackery will actually play both in South Bend, but it does tell us how great of an athlete he is.

Marcus Freeman celebrates Notre Dame lacrosse’s national championship

Celebrating with the champs!

The City of Brotherly Love played host to the NCAA men’s lacrosse final four this weekend with the championship taking place on Monday. Notre Dame routed Maryland in that game to win its second straight national championship.

Many notable Notre Dame personalities were in attendance, including head football coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag].

Freeman took in the championship game last year when Notre Dame beat Duke and returned to see the Irish crowned champions again Monday. After the dominating win, Freeman joined the on-field celebration and even posed for pictures with a few multisport athletes that have played on the Notre Dame football team.

Freeman is of course with (L-R in group photo) Mick Assaf, [autotag]Jordan Faison[/autotag] and [autotag]Tyler Buchner[/autotag]. It’s certainly wild to see Notre Dame’s last two bowl game MVPs winning a national championship together in lacrosse.

Notre Dame Routs Maryland to Secure Second Straight National Championship

BACK 2 BACK!

It was a bit of a concerning start for No. 1 Notre Dame on Monday when the NCAA men’s lacrosse national championship game finally got started but all’s well that ends well for the Fighting Irish.

Maryland started things off with a 2-0 lead almost 3:30 into the contest but Notre Dame quickly came back.

Will Angrick got Notre Dame on the board roughly a minute later and 51 seconds after that, Jake Taylor’s 40th goal of the season tied things 2-2.

Notre Dame and Maryland then traded goals as things sat a 3-3 with 6:06 left in the first quarter but it was an onslaught from the Fighting Irish from there.

Jalen Seymour, Eric Dobson, Devon McLane, Chris Kavanagh (three times in a row), and Reilly Gray scored seven goals in a row for Notre Dame to give the Irish a 10-3 advantage before Maryland would score just before halftime to cut the lead to six.

Jordan Faison started the scoring in the second half with a behind the back goal, his 22nd of the season which gave the Irish an 11-4 advantage.  Chris Kavanagh quickly added another pair of goals to bring the lead to nine.

Fisher Finley and Jake Taylor would add the final goals of the year to close the game a 15-5 victor.  Notre Dame goaltender Liam Entenmann stopped 16 of 21 Maryland shot attempts in the victory.

We’ll have more on this story as the celebration is on for the Irish.  In the meantime, check out some of the best photos from the blowout championship victory below!

All-time Notre Dame athlete dies at 78

RIP to one of the greatest athletes Notre Dame has ever seen

When you think of great multiple sport athletes in the history of Notre Dame, a few names come to mind.

[autotag]Jeff Samardzija[/autotag] and [autotag]Golden Tate[/autotag] both tore up the baseball field while starring as wide receivers for the Fighting Irish.

Raghib “Rocket” Ismail wasn’t just a speedy football star at Notre Dame but also a track sensation with his blazing speed.

Currently [autotag]Jordan Faison[/autotag] isn’t just perhaps Notre Dame’s best wide receiver but is also a key member of its top-ranked lacrosse program.

There are plenty more we should discuss at length one day but let’s take this moment to remember one of the greatest multisport athletes in the history of Notre Dame.

Former defensive tackle Kevin Hardy, who starred on Notre Dame’s 1966 national championship team, died on May 6 at 78 years old.

Hardy lettered in three sports at Notre Dame. In football, he was a key defensive lineman on the 1966 team that famously tied Michigan State en-route to winning the national championship. His 38 tackles and four pass breakups helped earn him All-American honors that year.

Hardy also played a key role on the basketball team that went to the NCAA Tournament. In 1968, he led the Fighting Irish baseball team, hitting .398.

Hardy was a first-round draft pick of the New Orleans Saints in 1967 and was moved to the San Francisco 49ers shortly after.  He also played for the Green Bay Packers and San Diego Chargers during his career.

College Lacrosse: No. 1 Notre Dame Accomplishes Program First in Obliterating Marquette

A dominating showing by the nation’s top-ranked team!

A program first for the Notre Dame men’s lacrosse team occurred Sunday when they dismantled Marquette in Milwaukee.  The 21-8 Notre Dame victory marked the first time in program history the Irish scored 20 goals in consecutive games.

The Brothers Kavanagh as they’ll forever be known here did what they do, putting on an absolute clinic.  Chris Kavanagh scored four goals while dishing out three assists and Pat Kavanagh added two scores and five helpers in the win.

Jake Taylor continued his fast start to 2024, scoring four more times, bringing his total to nine through two games.

Devon McLane added a hat trick for the top-ranked Golden Domers while Eric Dobson and Jordan Faison both netted a pair of goals.

Notre Dame sits 2-0 on the young season now and returns home next Sunday to welcome Georgetown in a 2 p.m. ET start.

Notre Dame Lacrosse: Defending Champs Open 2024 with Dominating Win

The reigning college lacrosse national champions opened the season in a big way, dominating Cleveland State to start 1-0.

The reigning national champions are back and opened the 2024 lacrosse season with a dominating win over Cleveland State on Wednesday as No. 1 Notre Dame routed the Vikings, 25-3.

The Irish started early with a 4-0 shutout in the first quarter, getting on the board initially a goal from Jordan Faison, the Sun Bowl MVP.  The Irish stretched the lead to 12-1 by halftime.

Jake Taylor led the way for the Irish with five goals while Chris Kavanagh and Notre Dame football walk-on turned starter [autotag]Jordan Faison[/autotag] each added three goals a piece.

Notre Dame returns to action on February 18 when they’ll be at Marquette,
