Top amateur Javier Martinez to make debut tonight on ESPN

Top amateur Javier Martinez will be making his pro debut against Jonathan Burrs in a four-round middleweight fight tonight in Las Vegas.

Martinez, who will be making his pro debut against Jonathan Burrs in a four-round middleweight fight inside the bubble at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, was the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trails champion in his division.

Martinez, 23, is a five-time national champion and is No. 1 at 165 pounds in the USA Boxing Rankings yet was designated an Olympic alternate.

Thus, the native of Milwaukee decided to turn pro and signed with Top Rank. He is working with trainer Jorge Capetillo in Las Vegas.

Martinez on Monday weighed in at 162 pounds. Burrs (2-1, 0 KOs) weighed 161.2.

Former U.S. Olympian Mikaela Mayer (12-0, 5 KOs) faces Helen Joseph (17-4-2, 10 KOs) in the 10-round junior lightweight main event tonight.
