If there is one thing bigger than college football in the state of Texas, it is high school football. Friday night lights are back and a couple of 2021 Longhorn recruits shined early in the season.

Beginning with Jonathan Brooks, the running back had another big day for the Hallettsville Brahmas. Brooks exploded for five touchdowns on Friday. Four scores came via the ground, while Brooks was also able to secure a 66-yard receiving touchdown.

Most importantly, the Brahmas got their second victory of the season, beating Ganado 49-7. Now with a 2-1 record, Hallettsville has been riding the back for Brooks. The running back had three touchdowns in the Brahmas’ season opener against Shiner.

A three-star prospect, Brooks has been committed to Texas since May. As things stand, he is the Longhorns only running back in the 2021 recruiting class.

247Sports reporter Nick Harris was on the scene for Brooks’ spectacular night. You can watch the highlights here:

Moving to the defensive side, four-star safety J.D. Coffey and Kennedale High School opened up its season with a victory against Sunnyvale. Playing safety and returning punts, Coffey was dealing with leg cramps all night according to Mike Roach.

However, Coffey still found a way to make an impact.
