Bucs fans should hear what new Raiders GM John Spytek said

That leads us to our point with this piece, Bucs fans will want to hear what new Raiders general manager Jon Spytek had to say.

The Bucs and their fans had two press conferences to watch on Monday. Liam Coen’s was with the Jaguars, and John Spytek’s was with the Raiders. If you had watched both, you would have seen a clear difference between them, as one was gracious to their former team while the other couldn’t have distanced himself more.

That leads us to our point with this piece: Bucs fans will want to hear what new Raiders general manager Jon Spytek had to say.

When John Spytek was speaking to the media, making his opening statement, he made it clear how thankful he was to be in the opportunity he was. Despite the enormity of the situation, what wasn’t lost on him was how much his time in Tampa Bay shaped him.

“I wanna thank the Glazer family, too, for having me the last nine years. It was an awesome opportunity to work for a great franchise. They are an awesome ownership group and they gave us all the resources to do our job well. I am proud of what we accomplished there.”

The credit didn’t end there with Spytek, the comments he gave regarding Bucs general manager Jason Licht should bring a smile to your face.

“Jason Licht, my boss for the last nine years in Tampa, believing in me when I was a young scout in Philadelphia, giving me a chance at a young age to help lead a franchise. . .I worked every day to make him proud.”

There can be no bigger compliment to a workplace than when the people who work for you try to make you proud every day. Spytek leaving will be a personal and professional loss to the Bucs front office.

The Bucs loss is the Raiders gain, though.

Pete Carroll and John Spytek plan to lean on Tom Brady in Raiders’ QB search

Raiders GM John Spytek and coach Pete Carroll made it very clear how much they plan to lean on Tom Brady in their QB search

The Las Vegas Raiders have the difficult task of finding their next franchise quarterback, a job that will fall on general manager John Spytek and head coach Pete Carroll. The two will work in tandem to set the team on the right path with a long-term answer at quarterback, but they won’t be alone in the search.

They’ll lean on Tom Brady, who’s a minority owner of the franchise. During their introductory press conferences Monday, both Spytek and Carroll made it abundantly clear that Brady will be involved in the process of finding the team’s next quarterback.

In fact, Carroll mentioned Brady’s name so often that he even joked he might’ve said it too much after a reporter pointed it out.

Carroll is excited about the opportunity to have Brady’s insight into the quarterback search, being the greatest to ever play the position. He even called it a “once in a lifetime opportunity,” which says a lot about the respect he has for Brady.

Brady has been “intricately involved” in the Raiders already, something Carroll finds “exciting.”

Spytek said the Raiders will lean on Brady “as much as we can, because no one has the insights he has.”

Whether it’s in the draft, free agency or via trade, the Raiders are committed to finding their next signal caller after years of struggling at the position.

Fan panic attack averted as John Spytek signs 5-year deal as Raiders new GM

Late movement in the coaching ranks Thursday night got Raider Nation very worried they might not have a GM after all.

There was some speculative panic in the Raider Nation Thursday night when the news came out that Liam Coen was waffling on returning as OC with the Buccaneers to take the head coach position with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Why would this cause a panic, you ask? Let’s explain.

You see, prior to Coen reversing course and heading to Jacksonville, the Jaguars fired GM Trent Baalke who they finally seemed to realize was scaring off potential head coach hires. And Coen was told he would have a say in who the new GM would be.

Spytek was the assistant GM in Tampa and is well-liked. The last reports out about him taking the job in Las Vegas were that he was finalizing a deal. Much like with Coen who had agreed to terms to return to the Bucs, but hadn’t officially signed his contract.

So, a lot of Raiders fans were freaking out a bit, wondering if Coen would reach out or had reached out to Spytek to come to be the GM in Jacksonville.

All caught up? Good.

That’s when ESPN’s Tom Pelissero put on his cape and saved the Raiders fans from themselves.

Pelissero reporting that “Spytek has now signed” his deal is interesting words because it kinda sounds like maybe this little bit of drama may have prompted them to get on the ball and get it signed to put a stop to it all.

Spytek is getting a five-year deal. Now we wait to see how long before the Raiders officially announce it and schedule the press conference.

Broncos won’t lose Vance Joseph to Jets; Raiders hire ex-Denver executive

The Jets will not hire Broncos DC Vance Joseph as their new head coach, opting to hire Aaron Glenn instead. That and more updates here.

The Denver Broncos aren’t seeking a head coach this offseason, but they’re still making headlines as other NFL teams fill their coach openings.

The latest development is the New York Jets hiring former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn as their new head coach. That news confirms that the Broncos will not lose defensive coordinator Vance Joseph to New York this offseason.

Joseph interviewed for the Jets’ and Las Vegas Raiders’ head coach openings. New York’s position has now been filled. Las Vegas is yet to make its hire.

Elsewhere in the hiring cycle, the Raiders are set to hire John Spytek as their new general manager. Spytek served as a southwest area scout (2013) and national scout (2014-2015) in Denver, helping the Broncos identify talent leading up to their win in Super Bowl 50. He left the team for a promotion with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2016 and now lands in Las Vegas.

Meanwhile, back to coaching buzz: Glenn wants to interview Denver assistant special teams coach Chris Banjo for New York’s special teams coordinator position.

The Broncos also have a ST coordinator opening after firing Ben Kotwica last week. Denver fired Kotwica with Darren Rizzi in mind as a potential replacement candidate, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

So the Broncos aren’t losing Joseph, at least not to New York, but they might lose an assistant. And Denver’s still seeking a new ST coach. We will track future coaching staff developments on Broncos Wire.

Breaking: Raiders to name John Spytek as new GM

The Raiders find their new GM, nabbing former Buccaneers assistant GM John Spytek.

The Raiders look to be finally getting one of their top choices this cycle. They are reportedly closing on a deal to make John Spytek their new GM.

Spytek has held various roles in NFL organizations over the past 21 years, the past two seasons in his current position.

Prior to that, he had spent two seasons as the team’s Vice President Player Personnel.

His first NFL job came in 2004 as an intern with the Detroit Lions. He was then an intern with the Eagles for a season before spending ten years in the scouting departments with he Eagles, Browns, and Broncos. It was in 2016 that he was hired by the Buccaneers to be their Director of Player Personnel, a position he held for five years.

The Buccaneers have made the playoffs in each of the last five seasons, starting with winning the Super Bowl in 2020 with Tom Brady at QB who is now a minority owner with the Raiders. So, yeah, there’s a relationship there.

Titans bringing back Bucs assistant general manager for second interview

Bucs assistant GM John Spytek is being called back in for a second interview with the team after completing an initial interview last week.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers front office has a higher risk than others now to lose one of their key pieces after he was called back in for a second interview with the Tennessee Titans. The AFC South basement-dwelling Titans have the first pick in the NFL Draft come April.

Bucs assistant general manager John Spytek is being called back in for a second interview with the team after completing an initial interview last week. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported the second interview as well as others who are getting interest for the job.

The interviews are expected to take place this week, with a decision to be made before the start of Shrine Bowl practices beginning on January 25 in Frisco, Texas. Most teams look to have front-office moves finalized before the all-star circuit begins for draft purposes, especially considering the Titans having the top pick in the draft.

Titans Request to Interview Bucs Assistant GM John Spytek

The Tennessee Titans have requested permission to interview John Spytek for their open general manager position.

The Tennessee Titans made a major announcement on Tuesday when they fired general manager Ran Carthon. On Wednesday, they set out to find his replacement.

President of football operations Chad Brinker began his search to replace Carthon and started reaching out to potential candidates. We outlined some of the potential candidates yesterday, but as always, new ones emerge.

One name we didn’t mention in our 10 potential candidates was one of the first requests to come out: Tampa Bay Buccaneers assistant GM John Spytek.

Spytek is another candidate with a tremendous amount of experience within scouting departments across the NFL. In his career, he has spent time as a scout with the Detroit Lions, Philadelphia Eagles, Cleveland Browns and Denver Broncos. When he arrived in Tampa Bay in 2016, he started his climb up the ladder under general manager Jason Licht and has played a major role in the development of the Bucs roster.

The Titans are said to be looking for a personnel guy and Spytek has the experience that makes him an attractive candidate.

We will continually update the general manager search as each candidate interviews. Check back for any and all information.
