The Colts signed C Alex Mollette and placed two on the injured reserve list.

The Indianapolis Colts signed center Alex Mollette and placed offensive tackle Carter O’Donnell and wide receiver John Hurst on the injured reserve list, the team announced Tuesday.

O’Donnell left the practice early on Saturday night and didn’t return. It isn’t clear what happened with Hurst, who signed with the team just before training camp started.

What is clear is that their season is over. Any player placed on the injured reserve list before roster cuts are not allowed to return unless they get waived with an injury settlement.

Mollette re-joins the Colts after being among the first wave of undrafted rookie free agents to sign with the team following the 2022 NFL draft.

Here are the roster moves the Colts made before training camp.

If you woke up this morning with a little extra pep in your step, it’s likely because the Indianapolis Colts are officially beginning training camp on Wednesday.

After the team reported to camp on Tuesday, the stage is set for the Colts to make their run for the top spot in the AFC South for the first time since 2014.

But before that comes to fruition, the Colts made a flurry of roster moves leading up to training camp. More moves are likely to come during camp between injuries and transactions.

Here’s a look at the roster moves the Colts made before the start of training camp:

Colts sign WRs Isaiah Ford, John Hurst

Colts add two WRs to the mix before training camp.

The Indianapolis Colts signed wide receivers Isaiah Ford and John Hurst, and they waived wide receiver Kekoa Crawford and defensive tackle Caeveon Patton, the team announced Tuesday.

With training camp slated to start Wednesday, the Colts added some depth to the wide receiver room. Both Ford and Hurst were among the four wide receivers to work out for the Colts on Monday.

The depth was needed somewhat after second-year wideout Mike Strachan was placed on the PUP list to open training camp.

Ford, 26, was a seventh-round pick with the Miami Dolphins in the 2017 NFL draft. He has appeared in 32 games (three starts), recording 63 receptions for 681 receiving yards and two touchdowns throughout his career with the Dolphins (2017-2020, 2021) and New England Patriots (2020).

Hurst, 25, has yet to appear in an NFL game but has spent time on the practice squads of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Los Angeles Chargers since signing with the Bucs as an undrafted free agent following the 2020 NFL draft.

Colts worked out four WRs before training camp

The Colts worked out four WRs on Monday.

The Indianapolis Colts held a tryout for four free-agent wide receivers Monday ahead of the start of 2022 training camp, per the league’s transaction wire.

With second-year wideout Mike Strachan starting camp on the PUP list, it isn’t a surprise to see the Colts checking out the talent that’s available on the market.

The four wide receivers included Isaiah Ford, John Hurst, Ishmael Hyman and Tyson Morris.

Of the quartet, Ford has the most NFL experience. He has played in 37 games while making three starts since entering the league in 2018.

Hurst and Hyman have bounced around the league a bit mostly on practice squads while Morris went undrafted during the 2022 NFL draft.

The Colts may make a move at wide receiver, and players like T.Y. Hilton, Julio Jones and Odell Beckham Jr. are still available as well.
