The 2023 college football season is on the horizon and the Badgers 41 days away from their opener against Buffalo on Sept. 2. Luke Fickell and his coaching staff, along with some exciting transfer additions, have Wisconsin fans on the edge of their seats.

Speaking of exciting, former Badger running back John Clay (2008-2010) finished his career with Wisconsin with 41 rushing touchdowns (ninth highest in program history) while producing 3,413 yards on the ground over 37 collegiate contests.

His 6-foot-1, nearly 250-pound frame made it very hard to tackle him and in 2009, he rushed for over 1,500 yards and 18 touchdowns on his way to earning the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year award.

Clay went undrafted in the 2011 NFL draft and never found a role in the league, but he’ll always be one of the best to lace them up in Madison.

Badger Countdown: Wisconsin scores 70 points in 2010 game

College football season is on the horizon and the Badgers’ opener is now 70 days away as Wisconsin faces Buffalo on Sept. 2 at Camp Randall.

College football season is on the horizon and the Badgers’ opener is now 70 days away as Wisconsin faces Buffalo on Sept. 2 at Camp Randall. In 2010, the Badgers set multiple scoring records, starting with their 70-3 win over Austin Peay on Sept. 25.

In the contest, quarterback Scott Tolzien threw for 217 yards and three touchdowns, but the running game is what made the difference for the Badgers. Starter John Clay turned 15 carries into 118 yards and a score while backup James White truly burst onto the scene. The true freshman recorded 145 yards and four touchdowns on 11 carries.

Montee Ball added another 64 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries while Wisconsin set the program record with 70 points. That record wouldn’t stand long though, as the team went on to beat Indiana 83-20 in November.

Wisconsin finished the 2010 campaign 11-1 before going on to lose the 2011 Rose Bowl to TCU by a score of 21-19.

Since Barry Alvarez took over as head football coach in 1990, the Wisconsin Badger football program has experienced an impressive run of consistent success.

It started in 1993 when Alvarez led the team to a conference championship, then the program’s five conference championships since then and now and the even greater height of the Badgers at some point each year finding themselves in the nation’s top 10.

We know the names that have led the program to success: Russell Wilson, Ron Dayne, Montee Ball, Melvin Gordon, Jonathan Taylor, J.J. Watt and more.

We also know the list of coaches as, aside from Gary Anderson, Alvarez, Brett Bielema and Paul Chryst have done nothing but win. That winning is continuing this season, with the team currently sitting at No. 10 in the nation with a 2-0 record and a combined point margin of 94-18.

A Bowl Game seems to be on the horizon for Graham Mertz and this team, given them being able to play enough games to qualify.
