Joe Burrow gets an MVP nod from NFL expert

Joe Burrow…the next NFL MVP?

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow missed half of the season last year due to a wrist injury after not even being at full strength for most of the time he actually was on the field, dealing with a calf strain that had been nagging since the preseason.

However, now he enters the 2024 season seemingly with no issues and should be back to his old self. Sports Illustrated NFL reporter Albert Breer recognizes that Burrow is back, and he has some high expectations for the signal-caller.

In a tweet that linked to an article he headlined, “Bengals QB Joe Burrow Is Back and Better Than Ever,” Breer predicted that Burrow would win the MVP award this season.

“Joe Burrow’s been through a lot the last year,” the tweet read. “But he never wasted a minute trying to get back to being himself. And now, he’s on the doorstep of it.”

In the article, Breer predicted that not only would Burrow win MVP, but he would also take Cincinnati back to the Super Bowl. He believes that Burrow was at his best after he had healed from his calf strain and before he injured his wrist, and due to his drive to improve, he will be even better when he gets back on the field for a full season.

While it will be a while before anyone can see whether Breer’s prediction comes true, the journey for Burrow to try to get there begins on Sunday against the New England Patriots, and he is ready to get back out on the field.

Myles Garrett on Joe Burrow: He’s produced at a higher level than Lamar Jackson

Browns pass rusher Myles Garrett says Joe Burrow has done more in his career than Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson

Myles Garrett is on his way to Baltimore and added more fuel to Sunday’s fire, giving the Ravens more bulletin board material.

After stating earlier in the week that he would take Bengals star quarterback Joe Burrow over Ravens star Lamar Jackson, Garrett doubled down on his take and attempted to explain why.

Burrow has played four seasons in Cincinnati, earning a trip to the Super Bowl, throwing for 13,635 yards and 94 touchdowns, being selected to play in 1 Pro Bowl, and winning the 2021 Comeback Player of the Year award.

Burrow has a passer rating 90.6 with 1,861 yards, 12 touchdowns, and four interceptions in 8 games this season.

The 2019 NFL MVP award winner, Jackson has played six seasons for the Ravens, throwing 14,163 yards and 110 touchdowns.

Jackson has been selected to play in 2 Pro Bowls, but he’s looking for his first playoff run as a starting quarterback.

This season, Jackson is again an MVP favorite, as he enters Week 10 with a passer rating of 100.8 with 1,954 yards, nine touchdowns, and three interceptions in 9 games this season.

2020 NFL MVP Odds: Is Joe Burrow worth a bet?

Analyzing the betting odds to be named the NFL’s 2020 MVP, with a look at whether Joe Burrow is worthy of a bet this season.

Do you think QB Joe Burrow has what it takes to win the 2020 NFL MVP? Let’s examine his chances, the BetMGM NFL futures odds around it happening and whether or not Burrow is worth a bet.

Recent NFL MVP winners

Burrow plays the right position, as each of the last seven and 12 of the last 13 league MVPs have been quarterbacks. The trend has also been young quarterbacks winning it. The last two league MVPs — Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson and Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes — were in their second NFL season.

With few exceptions, MVP quarterbacks lead the league in at least one significant passing statistic. They without fail lead playoff teams. Mahomes threw for over 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns. Jackson had over 3,500 passing yards and over 1,000 rushing yards.

MVP quarterbacks put up big numbers and win.

Burrow, who will be a rookie in 2020, is one of the long shots. He is given +10000 odds to win this year’s MVP award. That is far from the +325 for Mahomes or the +500 odds for Jackson or Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson.

Burrow has the same odds as Indianapolis Colts backup QB Jacoby Brissett, Carolina Panthers QB Teddy Bridgewater, New York Jets QB Sam Darnold and New Orleans Saints WR Michael Thomas, among others.

Joe Burrow stats

Burrow is certainly going to be the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft at the end of April. He is coming off a record-setting year in college with LSU, winning the Heisman Trophy and leading his team to a national championship.

He had 5,671 passing yards, 60 touchdown passes and only six interceptions. He also had another five rushing touchdowns.

Is Joe Burrow worth a 2020 NFL MVP bet?

Burrow will not put up those numbers as a rookie in the NFL. He will likely be the starting quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals, who were the worst team in the league in 2019 to earn the No. 1 draft pick.

Rookie quarterbacks don’t put up big numbers. Only Cam NewtonAndrew Luck and Jameis Winston have thrown for more than 4,000 yards as a rookie and the rookie passing touchdown record is 27 (Baker Mayfield).

Mahomes was the youngest MVP in league history. There hasn’t been a rookie MVP since 1957.

The potential payout of 100 times your investment might be tempting, but you would be expecting Burrow to do things as a rookie no rookie has ever done. He would have to be as good as the best quarterbacks in the league and turn around the worst team in football.

Burrow isn’t worth a bet.
