Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel cracks jokes about Will Smith-Chris Rock slap

Kimmel didn’t shy away from the jokes.

Will Smith wasn’t in attendance at the Oscars this year after the actor slapped presenter Chris Rock last year. The slap followed a joke made about Jada Pinkett-Smith’s expense. That didn’t stop Will Smith’s name from coming up. A lot. Jimmy Kimmel, hosting his third Academy Awards ceremony, made several cracks about the incident in his opening monologue.

Kimmel covered everything from telling the crowd that there was an incident response team to saying that any would-be attacker would have to get through actors like The Rock, Michelle Yeoh and Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield).

He also made reference to it again before the award for Best Documentary — which was when the slap happened in the show last year. Here’s his opening monologue segment:

Oscars 2023: Who is hosting the Oscars this year?

Jimmy Kimmel is back to host the 95th Oscars.

Hosting the Oscars isn’t something that should be taken lightly. It’s considered one of the most prestigious roles in Hollywood, as only some of the biggest, brightest and funniest names in the business have been able to stand on the stage as the host.

The names who typically host are legendary. Folks like Bob Hope, Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg and many more have taken the stage multiple times throughout their illustrious careers.

The same can be said for the host of the awards ceremony this year.

Late night talk show host and comedian Jimmy Kimmel is hosting 2023’s 95th Oscars for the 3rd time in his career. It’ll be the first time he’s been on the stage since 2018.

Here’s what he had to say about the opportunity, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“Being invited to host the Oscars for a third time is either a great honor or a trap,” Kimmel said. “Either way, I am grateful to the Academy for asking me so quickly after everyone good said no.”

Sounds like we’re in for a great show.

Patrick Mahomes was absolutely shocked by a Disneyland ride during his Super Bowl MVP visit

Patrick Mahomes did NOT expect this Disneyland ride to go so hard.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes found himself caught off-guard by the intensity of a Disneyland ride this week while celebrating his Super Bowl 57 victory.

As is customary for the Super Bowl MVP, Mahomes and his family ventured over to a Disney park for a parade and some enjoyment.

The Mahomes have a young daughter who undoubtedly was excited to take in Disneyland, but one ride caught her NFL MVP father by surprise.

Mahomes told Jimmy Kimmel on Monday about taking his eldest kiddo on the Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway attraction, which opened at the park in 2020. He called the ride’s name a “tongue twister” while describing it.

The Chiefs quarterback said he did not expect the seemingly family-friendly attraction to go as hard as it did. He starts talking about their Disneyland trip at 3:51 in the interview.

It’s just hysterical to hear Mahomes openly wondering why a Disneyland ride starring Mickey and Minnie Mouse featured so much adrenaline.

“It was actually pretty crazy,” Mahomes told Kimmel. “It caught me by surprise a couple of times. I thought it was, like, a kids’ ride how it was set up, and all of a sudden, I’m flying around in this place, and I’m like, how do y’all let little kids on this thing?”

He’s right! The ride is kind of intense for little kids!

They say any publicity is good publicity, and Disney could see an influx of park guests who are ready to ride the attraction that gave the most decorated NFL player of his generation some unexpected thrills.

The full Kimmel interview is worth checking out. It had a hilarious anecdote about Andy Reid’s Super Bowl halftime policy for Chiefs players wanting to watch Rihanna and fascinating insight into a Pikachu-inspired trick play.

Patrick Mahomes revealed that the Chiefs paid homage to Pokémon on Super Bowl trick play

Patrick Mahomes wants to be the best that there ever was.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes revealed fascinating insight into a trick play that the team used during Super Bowl 57.

The moment in question came while the Chiefs were in the red zone, trying to score a touchdown on the Philadelphia Eagles. The team did its signature ring-around-the-rosie huddle before attempting to get the ball to offensive tackle Andrew Wylie for the trick touchdown. The play was unsuccessful, but the driving force behind the play is just fantastic.

While appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Mahomes shared that the play was named after the popular Nintendo video game series Pokémon.

This is pretty awesome for the Chiefs to do for Wylie, who Mahomes said is a major Pokémon collector.

Most NFL teams might not be cool enough to give homage to the great Pikachu, but those teams aren’t winning Super Bowls. Kudos to Andy Reid for continuing to be one of the most creative play callers in the NFL.

Professor Oak would be proud!

Rockets rookie Jalen Green featured in Jimmy Kimmel’s ‘Mean Tweets’

Rockets rookie Jalen Green had his basketball IQ compared to that of a baby hamster in the 2022 NBA edition of Jimmy Kimmel’s “Mean Tweets.”

Though he is only 20 years old, Houston Rockets guard Jalen Green showed an impressive sense of maturity in recent weeks when he joined Bill Simmons on a podcast to put an end to an apparent controversy.

On Monday, as part of the 2022 NBA edition of Jimmy Kimmel’s popular “Mean Tweets” segment, Green took it a step further by showing an ability to laugh at a disparaging tweet about him. The segment debuted on ABC’s pregame show prior to Game 5 of the 2022 NBA Finals.

“Jalen Green has the basketball IQ of a baby hamster,” the tweet from a Miami Heat blogger on Dec. 31, 2021 reads.

Even at the time, it was relatively harsh, considering that Green was a 19-year-old NBA rookie. Nonetheless, the 6-foot-6 guard did struggle in his opening weeks in the league, which was to be expected.

But he certainly progressed in the calendar year 2022, punctuated by a historic scoring stretch late in the regular season that culminated in Green earning a spot on the NBA’s All-Rookie First Team.

Knowing what we know now, the tweet didn’t age well. But Green continues to show a good sense of humor and was willing to laugh it off. The full segment featuring numerous NBA players can be viewed below.

All-Star forward Khris Middleton and …

All-Star forward Khris Middleton and center Brook Lopez appeared Friday on “Jimmy Kimmel Live: NBA Finals Game Night,” one of ABC’s pregame shows ahead of Game 4 between the Boston Celtics and Golden State Warriors. Middleton played in a game of “College Knowledge,” where he was asked to answer trivia questions alongside fellow Texas A&M attendee Deandre Jordan. The pair faced off against former University of Kentucky players Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Malik Monk.

And it delves into his business …

And it delves into his business ventures and entrepreneurship, including being one of the owners of MLB’s Los Angeles Dodgers. It even touches upon his ill-fated 1998 talk show “The Magic Hour,” which comedian Jimmy Kimmel — a self-professed fan of Johnson — joked in the documentary “not just one of the worst talk shows but one of the worst television shows in history.”

Actor Jodie Foster says she is Aaron Rodgers’ biggest fan

Two-time Academy Award winner Jodie Foster is proud to say she is Aaron Rodgers’ biggest fan

When making his MVP speech, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers gave shoutouts to his team. He also threw in a name that made ears perk up: two-time Academy Award winner Jodie Foster.

Foster addressed the attention earlier this week on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” The Green Bay Packers’ part of the discussion starts at 2:20.

“He just knows I’m his biggest fan,” Foster said while adding the shoutout made her an official Green Bay Packer.

“I’m a big Packers fan.” She added, “You see, he said ‘my team,’ even though he said ‘off the field.’ That makes me a Green Bay Packer. People keep saying to me, ‘No, Jodie, that does not mean you’re part of the team.’ But it does mean I’m part of the team.”

When asked if she’d thank Rodgers should “The Mauritanian” win a Golden Globe at the end of the month, she said, “Absolutely. I may have to name the whole team. [Packers wide receiver] Davante Adams has to be in there somewhere.”

Foster co-stars with Shailene Woodley, Rodgers’ fiancee, in the film. She says that is a coincidence rather than more about her fandom of the quarterback.

Kawhi Leonard sadly says the story about him eating apples with a knife and fork isn’t true

Oh well.

Remember back in 2019 when an oral history of Kawhi Leonard’s days at San Diego State revealed the fun guy’s trash talk included “Board man gets paid”?

Good times, those were. However, it also led to people sharing stories about Leonard that were absolutely fake … but because of what we knew about Leonard, we paused — could they be real?

There was one that dropped about how Leonard once went out for a San Antonio Spurs team dinner, pulled out a bag of a dozen apples and ate them all with a fork and knife after proclaiming, “Apple time, apple time.”

At the time, we pointed out it was fake. But on Wednesday, while appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the host asked him about that story, which he of course denied.

Too bad. Here’s the full segment with Kimmel:
