Shedeur Sanders, Jimmy Horn Jr. developing strong connection for CU Buffs

We could be hearing “Sanders to Horn” quite a bit this fall

There is a tandem forming for the new-look Colorado Buffaloes football team that fans should be excited for. Get used to hearing “Sanders to Horn.”

Quarterback Shedeur Sanders and South Florida transfer wide receiver Jimmy Horn Jr. are massive additions and based on what head coach Deion Sanders and the QB himself had to say, that connection could flourish in 2023.

Coach Prime was first to meet with the media after the Buffs’ first spring practice on Sunday and he brought up Horn unsolicited in response to a question regarding Shedeur Sanders.

“If you watch practice, you can tell that he (Shedeur Sanders) and Jimmy and Travis (Hunter), they have something special,” Deion Sanders said. “Jimmy has done so much work indoors since we’ve arrived, and they know one another.”

Hearing that Shedeur Sanders has already meshed well with another newcomer is encouraging. When Shedeur Sanders took to the mic, I asked him about his relationship with Horn:

“Jimmy has great IQ,” Shedeur Sanders said. “He has great IQ. Some days, he (Horn) came out of the break the wrong way and we talk about it. I get on him about it and the next day it’s flawless. So that’s the thing with Jimmy, he has a good feel for this game.”

WATCH: Dylan Edwards, Jimmy Horn Jr. show off in the 40-yard dash

WATCH: Jimmy Horn Jr. and Dylan Edwards showed off their speed in a pre-spring measurements day

As the old adage goes, speed kills.

Speed is an aspect of football that the Colorado Buffaloes haven’t had much of in recent years. Jordyn Tyson showed flashes last season, but it hasn’t been since Shay Fields and Laviska Shenault Jr. played in Boulder that the Buffs had players who could consistently take the top off of opposing defenses.

As seen in a recent Well Off Media YouTube video, the Buffs have added some serious speed on offense. The video showed Buffs players going through various testing drills that one would see during the NFL combine, including the high jump and everyone’s favorite drill, the 40-yard dash. Speedsters Jimmy Horn Jr. and Dylan Edwards both ran it in 4.38 seconds and returning CB Nigel Bethel Jr. also impressed with a 4.4.

Transfers making strong impressions for Buffs early on

A few incoming transfers have been making strong impressions early on

The Colorado Buffaloes’ long list of incoming transfer players will surely make a massive difference in year one under new coach Deion Sanders.

Jackson State QB Shedeur Sanders and cornerback Travis Hunter are the two biggest names of the portal season for Colorado, and both will have an immediate impact.

However, a couple of other transfer payers have been making strong impressions early on, according to Clint Brewster of 247Sports.

Those players include former USF WR Jimmy Horn Jr., Dartmouth DL Shane Cokes and Florida OL Yousef Mugharbil. One other player turning heads and expected to be a significant addition is Alabama LB Demouy Kennedy

Cokes should be an immediate contributor on the defensive line, which is refreshing after Colorado had a disastrous year on that side of the ball.

On offense, Horn figures to be one of Shedeur Sanders’ favorite offensive weapons.

However, there might still be some question marks regarding Mugharbil. He was a four-star recruit out of high school but didn’t play a single snap during his two seasons with the Gators. Nonetheless, all of those players, and Kennedy, are making impressions early on.

The spring game will be in April and with an anticipated sold-out crowd, the excitement is very real in Boulder once again.

Transfer portal stars: Jimmy Horn Jr., wide receiver

Penn State would love to add Jimmy Horn Jr from the transfer portal with a profile like this.

There has been no crazier time in recent memory for college football than the age of the transfer portal. People love it, coaches hate it, and media is torn on it. What everyone knows for sure is it allows teams to rebuild faster and success to be sustained. And any team looking to add [autotag]Jimmy Horn Jr.[/autotag] will be adding the best wide receiver in the transfer portal.

Horn Jr. is born and raised in Florida which produces quality football players the way Henry Ford produced cars way back when. In Horn Jr.’s case, he specifically came from a lower ranked recruit at a less than ideal football situation in USF and now has a chance to become well known at a big school.

Penn State wants and needs to bring him in as they look to rebuild their receiving corp.
