Jimbo Fisher may be the lone coach in football history — at any level — fired after a 41-point victory.
Texas A&M canned Fisher on Sunday, a day after the Aggies defeated Mississippi State, 51-10.
The school owes $78.5 million to its former coach, who was 45-25 overall, as a buyout.
He was 5-7 last season and Texas A&M stands 6-4 after 10 games in 2023.
The school’s press release:
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M Director of Athletics, Ross Bjork, announces change in Aggie football leadership, effective immediately.
“After very careful analysis of all the components related to Texas A&M football, I recommended to President Welsh and then Chancellor Sharp that a change in the leadership of the program was necessary in order for Aggie football to reach our full potential and they accepted my decision. We appreciate Coach Fisher’s time here at Texas A&M and we wish him the best in his future endeavors.”
Last season, Jimbo Fisher became only coach in college football history w/3 teams ranked in AP’s preseason top 6 that finished year unranked. Twice at A&M, once at FSU. Fisher fired today at A&M source told @ActionNetwork, after going 45-25 in 6 seasons. He will receive a buyout… pic.twitter.com/sio3J31ETC
