Jimbo Fisher responds to being linked to the LSU job

Jimbo Fisher is ‘happy’ where he is.

Once the news was official that LSU would be in the market for a new head coach, current Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher’s name was among the top names listed.

Fisher spent time on the LSU staff under Nick Saban and Les Miles before taking over the Florida State Seminoles program, where he won a national championship. He also has ties to current athletic director Scott Woodward, who brought Fisher to A&M.

On Monday, Fisher was asked about being linked to the Tigers head coaching job, denying any interest in the job. Fisher stated that he and Woodward are friends but nothing more to any conversations with the AD.

“There’s nothing going on there. There’s nothing happening there”

Fisher is coming off a monster victory over his former boss Nick Saban and Alabama two weeks ago. This past Saturday the Aggies defeated Missouri, 35-14. This is likely not the last you will hear of Fisher and LSU being linked. It is early on in the process and the leadership group will likely do all of their homework on any prospective candidates for the job.

LSU travels to Ole Miss on Saturday for an SEC West showdown with another likely candidate, Lane Kiffin.

HALFTIME REPORT: Alabama not playing to potential

Alabama didn’t play up to expectations in first half.

The Crimson Tide are taking on Texas A&M in a very important matchup in the SEC West.

Alabama isn’t exactly playing up to their potential, allowing home-team Texas A&M to get a 24-10 lead against the No. 1 team in the country at the half.

Alabama isn’t playing the best defensive game they have on the year, allowing 24 points in just two quarters.

Alabama QB Bryce Young has only completed 11 of 19 passes for 143 yards and a touchdown. He threw a pick early on, but otherwise he has been on target.

The defense could be playing a lot better. Sophomore QB Zach Calzada has completed 13 of 14 passes for 183 yards and two touchdowns, while throwing one interception.

The rushing defense hasn’t been any better, allowing 75 yards on 18 carries, just at 4 yards per carry and one touchdown.

Alabama needs to step their game up if they want to win this game. So far, they haven’t been playing up to their potential.

Alabama will enter the second-half hoping to have a much better game.

Malachi Moore ejected early on targeting call against Texas A&M

Alabama will be playing without one of their better DBs for the remainder of the contest against Texas A&M.

Alabama will be playing without one of their better DBs for the rest of this matchup against Texas A&M in a hostile environment.

105,000 rowdy fans are in attendance for Texas A&M’s huge matchup against the Tide. Coming into the game 3-2, A&M doesn’t have much of a chance making the playoff, but a win against Alabama would be huge for their confidence moving forward.

Crimson Tide DB Malachi Moore was called for targeting on Aggie QB Zach Calzada, well after the ball left his hands.

Sophomore Brian Branch will be his replacement for the remainder of the game.

WATCH: Roydell Williams scores Alabama’s first TD against Texas A&M

Alabama’s Roydell Williams scores the first TD against Texas A&M!

The Alabama Crimson Tide are on the road in College Station taking on the Texas A&M Aggies in a hostile environment.

Attendance is near 105,000 and the noise is at a high-level for the visiting Crimson Tide. So far, it hasn’t stopped the efficiency.

Alabama managed to score the first TD on the night with a 10-play, 61 yard drive capped off by a 20-yard TD pass from QB Bryce Young to RB Roydell Williams.

The pass was completed from behind the line of scrimmage to Williams, who caught the pass and took it upfield to the house!

Alabama’s matchup with Texas A&M may have lost some of its national importance, but that doesn’t mean that it is not an important matchup within the division.

Last Saturday Alabama played its best game of the season but still did not hold the intensity for the entire sixty-minute contest. Let’s see if the Tide can finally put a complete game together against a reeling Aggies team.

Three bold predictions for Alabama’s matchup with Texas A&M

Three bold predictions for Alabama’s matchup with the Texas A&M Aggies!

No. 1 Alabama will look to stay undefeated as they head to College Station to take on the Texas A&M Aggies. The Aggies have suffered defeats the last two weeks. First against Arkansas, then against Mississippi State.

Don’t let their record fool you, Texas A&M still has a very talented roster and is capable of making this game ugly. However, it does seem like A&M may be playing its worst football of the season and Alabama seems to be finding its rhythm.

Anything can happen in a matchup between two programs like Alabama and A&M, but here are my three bold predictions for the contest.

First … the Alabama rushing attack

What Nick Saban said on Wednesday leading up to Texas A&M

What Alabama football coach Nick Saban said in his Wednesday press conference leading up to the matchup with Texas A&M.

No. 1 Alabama is set to travel to College Station this Saturday to take on Jimbo Fisher and the Texas A&M Aggies. The Aggies have lost their last two contests and have been maybe this biggest disappointment in the SEC this season.

Nick Saban held his weekly Wednesday afternoon press conference earlier today and here are some quick hitters from the head coach.

  • He emphasized how important it was for players to be able to generate their own want-to.
  • He mentioned that Texas A&M is one of the best teams they have played this season from a personnel standpoint.
  • According to Saban, Dallas Turner, and Chris Braswell have a lot of potential and they are now getting the reps due to the injury to Drew Sanders.
  • He acknowledged how smart Chris Owens is both on and off the field.
  • On correcting the high snap issues from center to quarterback, Saban compared it to putting, in that you just have to focus on what you are doing.
  • He expressed the confidence the coaching staff has in Roydell Williams in the absence of Jase McClellan.
  • On Texas A&M tight end Jalen Wydermyer, Saban said that he is a very difficult matchup because of his size and athleticism.

5 reasons why Alabama will take down Texas A&M

The Crimson Tide take on SEC West foe Texas A&M on Saturday! Let’s review the five reasons why Alabama will put them back in their place.

The Crimson Tide have a ton of momentum going into Week 6. After a strong performance against Ole Miss in nearly all facets of competition, Alabama will look to maintain composure against Texas A&M on Saturday.

Many pundits believed that this game would be between a couple of undefeated top-five teams. One of these teams fits the bill, but the other has slid drastically into oblivion.

Texas A&M enters the matchup on a two-loss streak following consecutive heartbreaking losses to Arkansas and Mississippi State. Their record on the year sits at a level well below what everybody expected coming into the season at 3-2. They now face a very real threat to move to 0-3 in SEC play.

Let’s go over the five reasons why Alabama will succeed in putting Texas A&M back in their place for the ninth consecutive time.

How Alabama’s defense will fare against Texas A&M

How will Alabama perform defensively against an embattled Texas A&M offense?

The Alabama defense is beginning to gel at the perfect time as we approach the middle of the season. After the first few weeks getting “tin-horned”, it was refreshing to see the defense perform the way it did in Saturday’s win against a potent Ole Miss offense.

Another SEC West matchup is on the horizon as the Crimson Tide will travel to College Station to take on Texas A&M on Saturday. Texas A&M is a good team that’s fallen very hard on its luck, but will likely fall even harder this weekend.

The Aggies QB situation is in disarray. Redshirt-freshman Haynes King was touted as the golden goose of Aggieland, with A&M fans predicting that he could lead them to the promised land of the CFP.

And then came a fractured ankle injury against Colorado, from which he isn’t slated to return from until somewhere around the middle of October.

So who’s holding the reigns now at QB for Texas A&M?

None other than the man that King beat out, Zach Calzada. Needless to say, it’s not looking good for Texas A&M at this point at the QB position. Not all of the Aggies’ offensive shortcomings are the fault of Calzada, however. He is operating behind a makeshift offensive line that features two true-freshmen due to injuries and four newcomers with no experience starting in the SEC.

However, Calzada is not immune to criticism. When he does have time he has shown to be impatient. He takes no time on his reads and acts on impulse. This wanton nature has led to four interceptions while only finding the endzone for five passing TDs. He is not an accurate passes in any sense of the term.

Unfortunately for Texas A&M, his 60% completion percentage against Miss. State was his season-high. Not a good number by any stretch of the imagination.

Aggies head coach Jimbo Fisher says that Calzada continues to improve, exhibiting great faith in his reshirt-sophomore QB who was beat out in the preseason by his younger peer.

At WR, Aggie QBs’ favorite this season has been junior slot-receiver Ainias Smith, who has caught 20 passes for 200 yards and two TDs.

The Aggies’ primary read on passing downs has been Chase Lane, who led the team in yards per catch last season. He’s brought down just nine catches for 104 yards this year.

Jalen Wydermyer at TE has proven to be an effective option on passing-downs. He’s gather 15 receptions for 176 yards and a touchdown.

Caleb Chapman and Demond Demas are Calzada’s other options at receiver. They haven’t shown themselves to be elite receivers, as of yet, and it’s hard to imagine that any Aggie WR will have a breakout performance against an experienced Tide secondary.

The one solid piece that Texas A&M does have offensively is Isaiah Spiller, the 21st Aggie to rush for 2,000 career yards. Spiller has rushed for 445 yards on 78 attempts on the year, averaging 6.8 YPC. He’s hit the endzone twíce on the season. But he won’t be much of a factor if Fisher doesn’t make him a huge part of his game plan on Saturday.

Even if Fisher does play to the Alabama defense’s weakness – the run game – the Texas A&M offensive line likely won’t get a lick of push.

The Aggies O-line plays with nearly no continuity. Based on what I’ve seen, they’re generally not moving as one cohesive unit. Too often have they been pushed around this season against seemingly inferior talent.

The Aggie defense may be the only saving grace Texas A&M can hope for in this game against the No. 1 ranked Crimson Tide, and even then, you’ve got to be able to score points to win a football game, and I don’t think they’ll muster up more than two touchdowns.

Catch the game between Alabama and Texas A&M on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. CT on CBS.
