Best moments from seventh episode of Dolphins ‘Hard Knocks’

Here’s what we saw in the seventh episode of “Hard Knocks.”

The Miami Dolphins finished the 2023 calendar year with a loss on Sunday afternoon against the Baltimore Ravens to fall to 11-5 through the first 17 weeks of the season.

And, now, they have even more attention on them, as they’re the focus of this year’s edition of the in-season version of “Hard Knocks” on HBO and Max.

The seventh episode of the season aired on Tuesday night with more to follow weekly.

Here are some of the best moments from episode No. 7 (some are NSFW):

Dolphins set franchise record with third defensive touchdown in as many weeks

The Miami Dolphins have scored a defensive touchdown in each of their last three games, setting a franchise record.

When you generally think about the Miami Dolphins and scoring points, you think about one of the most dynamic offenses in the NFL, and for good reason. But do you know that when Miami defensive lineman Zach Sieler picked off this Will Levis pass against the Tennessee Titans on Monday night and returned it five yards for a touchdown, it marked the third straight game in which the Dolphins scored a defensive touchdown, which set a franchise record?

We’ll start with safety Jevon Holland’s 99-yard pick-six against quarterback Tim Boyle and the New York Jets on Black Friday, which was the worst Hail Mary attempt we’ve ever seen.

And then in Week 13 against the Washington Commanders, pass-rusher Andrew Van Ginkel took this Sam Howell screen attempt 33 yards to the house.

As Sieler weight 305 pounds, we’ll call that a #THICCSIX. Van Ginkel clocks in at about 240, and Holland weighs 210, those touchdowns do not apply. We don’t make the rules here; we just follow them.

Mike McDaniel provides updates on a group of injured Dolphins

Miami’s HC updated the media and fans on four injured starters.

The Miami Dolphins haven’t had many players suffer season-ending injuries so far this year, but they’ve been rather unlucky when it comes to week-to-week injuries.

Entering last week’s matchup against the Washington Commanders, the Dolphins were without safety Jevon Holland, left guard Isaiah Wynn and linebacker Jaelan Phillips (out for the year with a torn Achilles).

Then, during the contest, Miami lost left tackle Terron Armstead, right guard Robert Hunt and linebacker Jerome Baker.

With all of the injury statuses up in the air, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel updated everyone on the statuses of a few of his players.

Here’s what he had to say:

News, notes and nuggets heading into Dolphins vs. Commanders

Some tidbits for Sunday’s action.

The Miami Dolphins are heading to the nation’s capital this weekend to play the Washington Commanders on Sunday.

This will be Miami’s first trip to FedEx Field since 2015, as a victory on Sunday will move their record to 9-3 this season, something the Dolphins haven’t accomplished since 2001.

Miami leads the all-time series 8-5 in the regular season and each franchise beat the other in the Super Bowl.

Here are some more news and notes heading into the matchup with the Commanders:

Dolphins CB Jalen Ramsey campaigns for Jevon Holland to win Defensive Player of the Week

The CB wants the Snowman to get some hardware.

With the Miami Dolphins playing their game against the New York Jets on Friday, the players had the weekend off and were able to spend it however they saw fit.

For cornerback Jalen Ramsey, that meant watching the rest of the league. And, in the middle of the Sunday night game between the Baltimore Ravens and Los Angeles Chargers, the cornerback took to social media to make a statement regarding his teammate, safety Jevon Holland.

In Friday’s win, Holland recorded five tackles, a pass defensed and a 99-yard interception return for a touchdown on the final play of the first half.

The pick-6 was much more important than just the result, however, as it came after Tua Tagovailoa had thrown his second interception in as many drives, and the Jets were shifting the momentum before the Hail Mary attempt.

Instead, Holland found the end zone, made it 17-6 and kept New York really ever getting close again.

Ramsey may be right. That type of impact may be deserving of some recognition from the league.

Views from a Week 12 W.

The Miami Dolphins, after beating the Las Vegas Raiders at the beginning of the week, had a quick turnaround, but they still beat the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium on Friday.

Mike McDaniel’s offense continued to show some signs of struggle, as they had two turnovers that could’ve cost them the game. Luckily, the other side of the ball has been dominant since the return of Jalen Ramsey, as they stifled the rushing attack and made life a nightmare for Jets quarterback Tim Boyle.

As we do after each game, we’ve put together some of the best pictures from the matchup, and this will be one that some will want to remember.

News and notes from Miami’s 34-13 Black Friday victory against the New York Jets

News and notes from a Black Friday W.

The Miami Dolphins went into MetLife Stadium on a short week and rolled to victory over the New York Jets, 34-13.

Despite some sloppy play and a devastating injury to pass-rusher Jaelan Phillips, Miami is now 8-3, in control of their AFC East destiny and very much alive in the top-seed conversation with a handful of other AFC teams.

Miami relied on a massive defensive performance as well as terrific games from their skill position triplets of Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle and Raheem Mostert.

Orchestrating this, as the football-like point guard he is, Tua Tagovailoa had a fair game, with two ill-timed interceptions. However, the second was a net positive and led to a Hail Mary try, that Miami’s Jevon Holland intercepted and proceeded to take coast-to-coast for a 99-yard touchdown.

The return score was the third-longest interception for a touchdown in Dolphins history with the second being a 100-yarder by Brock Marion in 2002. The first was famously Louis Oliver’s epic 103-yard return in 1992, as both of those top-two were against the Buffalo Bills.

The Miami Dolphins are 9-5 in their 14 games against the Jets at MetLife Stadium since the place opened in 2010.

Here are some more notes from the victory:

Dolphins’ Mike McDaniel discusses LB Jaelan Phillips’ injury post-game

Miami’s HC addresses his star pass rusher’s injury.

Miami Dolphins linebacker Jaelan Phillips was carted off the field during the fourth quarter in the 34-13 win over the New York Jets in Week 12.

It was a non-contact injury that could be a potential season-ending Achilles tear.

Following the game, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel wasn’t optimistic when asked about Phillips’ injury.

“Don’t want to get ahead of myself, but not fired up about it,” said McDaniel.

What makes the injury more demoralizing for Miami fans is the team was leading 27-6 with under ten minutes to go in the game. There wasn’t an ounce of momentum going the Jets’ way, and it could be argued that the Dolphins should’ve been subbing out their starters.

McDaniel went on to discuss the emotional moment featuring players from both sidelines supporting Phillips as he was carted off the field in tears.

“It was emotional,” McDaniel said. “I think that’s one of the special things about this particular team is there’s a lot of shared journeys. Everybody sees what he puts in on a daily basis. Everyone knows how bad he wants to take steps in his game and be absolutely great in this league.”

Multiple Dolphins, including safety Jevon Holland and running back Raheem Mostert, cited the turf at MetLife Stadium as a root cause of Phillips’ injury.

This was the same field where Jets’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles during the Week 1 Monday night opener. The injury to Phillips will certainly continue the popular debate surrounding turf fields in the NFL.

Dolphins RB Raheem Mostert, S Jevon Holland call out MetLife Stadium turf after Jaelan Phillips’ injury

Dolphins call out Jets’ playing surface after the win.

In recent years, the turf vs. grass debate has been raging across the NFL with many players believing that the artificial playing surface leads to more injuries.

On Friday, the Miami Dolphins took on the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium, a venue that sports a turf field. During the contest, Miami lost linebacker Jaelan Phillips to a non-contact Achilles injury that could cost him the rest of the season and some of next year depending on the severity.

Following the battle, safety Jevon Holland was the first to call out the turf.

However, the safety wasn’t the only one to do so, as running back Raheem Mostert did the same.

With more and more star players going down, the league will eventually have to look into this issue more.

Until then, the Dolphins will just hope for the best news for Phillips.

Jevon Holland’s 99-yard pick-six on Hail Mary attempt unlocks $1 million TV giveaway

Jevon Holland’s 99-yard interception return will turn into a TV giveaway frenzy

Jevon Holland is going to be the favorite player for a lot of people … and won’t all be Miami Dolphins fans.

The 99-yard interception return off the Hail Mary in the Miami Dolphins’ 34-10 win over the New York Jets on Black Friday played a role in a contest giveaway.

TCL has had different stipulations every week on Amazon’s telecasts for what would trigger the upgrade promotions to be unlocked.

In Week 12, the stipulation was: A 98-yard-plus-yard touchdown would mean 84, 98-inch TCL TVs would be the prizes.

Holland’s TD return of Tim Boyle’s pass has been listed at 99 yards. Once it is confirmed as the official distance by league stats, that means people who entered the contest will be up to win one of the 84 TVs. Each is valued at $11,999.99

That would calculate to about $1,008,00 in prizes.

It also presents the perfect opportunity for TCL to hire Holland as a spokesperson.
