The Chicago Bulls have signed Jevon Carter to a three-year, $20 million contract, according to reports.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Chicago Bulls have signed point guard Jevon Carter to a three-year, $20 million contract. The 27-year-old guard is coming off a career season with the Milwaukee Bucks, in which he played 81 games and started 39 of them.

Carter played 22.3 minutes per contest for the Bucks. He averaged 8 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game while shooting 42.3% from the field and 42.1% from behind the arc. The veteran attempted a career-high 4.2 3-point attempts per game. Carter has been known as a hard-nosed defender since his days at West Virginia, and his 3-point stroke has seemingly come around as well.

The Bulls entered free agency with a massive need at the point guard position, but they addressed that within the first hour of free agency, bringing in Carter and re-signing Coby White to a three-year, $40 million deal.

Carter had been discussed as an option at Bulls Wire. With the way he played this past season, he could be in line to be Chicago’s starting point guard heading into the season.

White showed solid potential toward the end of this past season, but Carter’s defensive presence and consistent 3-point shot should give him the edge. He has the chance to form an elite defensive backcourt with Alex Caruso, and Chicago was one of the worst shooting teams in the league last year, so they could use that in the starting lineup.

The Bulls still have work to do this summer, though, as they plan to push for the postseason next year. Rather than hitting the reset button, the Bulls have decided to continue pushing their chips on the table.

Jevon Carter is perfect starting point guard target for Chicago Bulls

As the Chicago Bulls search for a starting point guard, Jevon Carter could be the ideal target.

The Chicago Bulls have some important decisions to make this offseason as they look to improve their roster. Arturas Karnisovas has no interest in rebuilding his roster, meaning he will have to make some serious additions to the team if the Bulls hope to avoid another disappointing season.

Chicago’s biggest position of need will be the point guard spot, as they don’t have a starting-caliber point guard at the moment. Lonzo Ball went down with a knee injury 35 games into his Bulls career and has yet to make a return to the court. And there’s no indication that he will be back anytime soon.

So, as the Bulls search for new point guard options this summer, they need to find the perfect mix of affordable and talented. Milwaukee Bucks guard Jevon Carter is that to a tee.

Carter is coming off a breakout season with the Bucks that saw him notch career-highs in points, rebounds, assists, threes, three-point percentage, minutes, and games played. It was a phenomenal year for the soon-to-be 28-year-old, and he will likely look to capitalize on it in free agency.

Signing Carter for a  portion of their MLE could be a huge win for the Bulls, as he might be ready to take on a larger role. The hard-nosed defender would be able to help Chicago on both sides of the ball.

The most important development in his game has been his three-point shot, as he attempted 4.2 threes per game this past year on 42.1 percent shooting from deep – both career-best numbers.

For a Bulls team in desperate need of point guard play, three-point shooting, and defense, Carter could be the perfect free agent for them to target.

3 free agent guards that fit, make sense for the Philadelphia 76ers

Here are three free agent guards the Philadelphia 76ers should go after in 2023 free agency.

When it comes to the 2023 free agency period, the Philadelphia 76ers have to focus first and foremost on James Harden. He is going to be the key to everything they want to do going forward.

The Harden and Joel Embiid duo give the Sixers a very good chance at coming out of the Eastern Conference and contending for a championship. The Sixers have to make sure they work something out with The Beard to keep him around.

As far as other free agents go, the Sixers are a bit cash-strapped. They only have, per HoopsHype:

  • Non-taxpayer mid-level exception: $12,220,000 (could lose access to this if they go over the apron)
  • Bi-annual exception: $4,448,000 (could lose access to this if they go over the apron)

Therefore, they will need to offer a serious chance at winning as their biggest pitch in the summer. There are three guards that come to mind for the Sixers:

Bucks’ Jevon Carter had the best answer ever when asked about his career-high scoring performance

Carter had 36 points and 12 assists.

Milwaukee Bucks guard Jevon Carter is a very underrated basketball player, and he just had the best game of his professional career.

The 27-year-old helped lead the Bucks to a 136-132 double-overtime victory against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday. Carter finished with 36 points and 12 assists in 45 minutes. Each of those marks was a career-high for the 6-foot-1 former West Virginia guard.

After the game, Carter was asked when he realized at what point in the game he realized that he “had it” and needed to keep going. Carter responded with the best thing he possibly could have said during that celebratory moment:

Carter looked at the reporter and then responded: “When I woke up.”

That’s it! That’s all he said! That truly and sincerely sent a shiver down my spine because of how cold it was. I mean, my goodness. What an awesome display of confidence from Carter, who is averaging 4.6 points per game in his NBA career.

Carter, who was able to connect on five 3-pointers during the game, could play an integral role for Milwaukee during the postseason if he can shoot like that more often.

Report: Former Nets guard Jevon Carter to sign a deal with Bucks

Former Brooklyn Nets guard Jevon Carter will sign a deal with the Milwaukee Bucks.

The defending champion Milwaukee Bucks have snatched up another former member of the Brooklyn Nets. After the Nets waived DeAndre’ Bembry, the Bucks signed him to a deal and now, they are going to bring in another former Nets guard.

After Brooklyn waived Jevon Carter on Monday to make room for the addition of veteran Goran Dragic, Carter will now sign a deal with the Bucks in order to give them more depth. Carter averaged 3.6 points and 1.5 rebounds in 46 games for the Nets, starting one of them, and he shot 33.3% from the floor and 33.1% from deep.

Carter will give the Bucks a solid defender out on the perimeter, but the Nets didn’t need that anymore after the big acquisition of Ben Simmons. Nonetheless, Carter now adds more depth to the team Brooklyn is trying to knock off in Milwaukee.

As the Nets now move forward, they will have to focus on getting everybody on the same page with 23 games left in the 2021-22 season before the playoffs. They have a lot of issues that need to be addressed as they have overhauled their roster.

Nets to waive Jevon Carter to make room for Goran Dragic addition

The Brooklyn Nets will waive Jevon Carter in order to make room for Goran Dragic.

The Brooklyn Nets made their big move at the deadline as they brought in Ben Simmons, Seth Curry, and Andre Drummond to help the team chase down a title, and now, they need to make moves around the margins in order to get the team closer to that championship expectation.

They made a nice move in the buyout market as they brought in Goran Dragic who was bought out by the San Antonio Spurs after he was acquired by the Toronto Raptors. Dragic is a 13-year veteran with tons of experience and he will bring ball-handling and depth to the Nets.

In order to make room for Dragic, Brooklyn will waive guard Jevon Carter. The 4-year guard played in 36 games for the Nets averaging 3.6 points and 1.5 rebounds while shooting 34% from deep and he provided some toughness, but with the addition of Dragic, there is not much need for Carter at the moment.

Carter will likely be picked up by somebody in the buyout market, but for Brooklyn, the addition of Dragic adds a proven guard who can bring that experience and swagger to Brooklyn as they continue their chase for a title.

LaMarcus Aldridge, other Nets enter health protocols ahead of Sixers matchup

LaMarcus Aldridge and other Brooklyn Nets will enter the health protocols ahead of their matchup with the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Philadelphia 76ers were blown out by the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday after losing Joel Embiid and Seth Curry to injury shortly before tipoff, but their next two matchups could offer a chance to get back on track a bit.

While the Sixers will play a Miami Heat team down All-Stars Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler on Wednesday, they will also take on a Brooklyn Nets team on Thursday who will be down a few pieces.

Nets big man LaMarcus Aldridge entered the league’s health and safety protocols on Tuesday ahead of their matchup with the Toronto Raptors. He will join Paul Millsap, DeAndre’ Bembry, James Johnson, and Jevon Carter in the protocols with the team also missing Kyrie Irving and Joe Harris.

Aldridge scored 23 points in Brooklyn’s win over the Sixers in Philadelphia’s home opener back on Oct. 22 and the Sixers will now take on a Nets team that will be a bit more shorthanded than usual. On the flip side, they will still have Kevin Durant and James Harden so they will still be a formidable opponent on Thursday.

Kevin Durant on new Nets: ‘We complement each other’

Kevin Durant says Patty Mills, DeAndre’ Bembry and Jevon Carter are meshing nicely with the Brooklyn Nets.

Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant made his preseason debut on Friday versus the Milwaukee Bucks. In the process, he got his first in-game look at new Nets players Patty Mills, DeAndre Bembry and Jevon Carter.

It was interesting to see these three display their biggest strengths together on Friday in a 119-115 exhibition win. Mills was instant offense, scoring 10 points in 20 minutes off the bench, and Bembry and Carter provided instant defense for the entire game.

Durant knows that if these new Nets continue to have their strengths shine, it likely will lead to success. He also likes how the team is meshing with its new roster pieces.

“I think we fit around each other,” Durant after Friday’s game. “We complement each other. All of us, Patty, DB, bringing LaMarcus [Aldridge] back, even Paul [Millsap]. If your IQ is high, you’re not selfish out there, you care about your teammates, I think you can make things work.”

Carter, who went 3-of-4 on 3-pointers versus Milwaukee, seems to have improved his shooting this summer. Durant said he’s seen the guard’s potential since his college days.

“No it didn’t surprise me,” Durant said. “I watched him since West Virginia. Always felt like he had a quick trigger at the 3-point line, even in college, and I knew he was going to bring that with him to the league. He hangs his hat on the defensive side of the ball. Every time he steps on the floor he has an impact.”

Nets GM Sean Marks says Brooklyn’s roster is about ‘90% complete’

Brooklyn Nets GM Sean Marks is not done making roster changes, but the Nets’ roster is near complete.

It has been a busy offseason in the NBA already up until this point. For the Brooklyn Nets, they have been forced to bring in reinforcements with former players like Jeff Green departing. Some key signings that have been completed are Patty Mills, DeAndre’ Bembry, Jevon Carter and James Johnson.

At this point it seems like the Nets are done and are ready for next season. Right? Wrong! Nets GM Sean Marks admitted on Wednesday that the roster is certainly not complete:

“I don’t want to say the roster is complete, maybe it’s 90% complete.”

If this is only 90%, then what does the spontaneous GM have in store next? In fact, what more can be done? You have the big three of Kevin Durant, James Harden and Kyrie Irving playing their best basketball. You secured a proven champion and scorer in the form of Mills. Defense has amped up thanks to acquiring Bembry and Carter while also bringing back Bruce Brown. Surprisingly, this is not enough?

In the coming weeks, we will surely find out what the remaining 10% will be. Prepare for the unexpected, but expect changes to surely occur.

Jevon Carter on what he can bring to the Nets

Jevon Carter knows what is at stake this year playing for the Nets and he is ready for the challenge.

Jevon Carter and the 29th pick of this year’s draft was traded to Brooklyn in exchange for Landry Shamet. With the pick, the Nets selected big man Day’Ron Sharpe for depth in the frontcourt. For Carter’s case, he was sought out by Nets GM Sean Marks for his capabilities defensively.

In his first time talking to the media, the 25-year-old admitted that he was excited when he found out he was traded to Brooklyn. When talking about his defense, Carter said:

“Defense is very personal … that’s just a must and that’s just who I am — Defense is why I’m in the NBA, so why stop now? I gotta bring it.”

The season has not even started yet, but one thing is clear. This year’s Nets roster is more balanced because of the personnel brought in for that end. Last season only proved that offense won’t ever be a problem for this team, so it was only right to make a couple of adjustments.
