Jets vs. Browns inactives: Javelin Guidry out for New York in Week 16

Jets vs. Browns Week 16 inactives.

The Jets will be without one of their rising young cornerbacks against the Browns, as Javelin Guidry is out with a knee injury.

Guidry’s inactive designation was expected, as he was listed as doubtful throughout the week. With the undrafted free agent sidelined, Bryce Hall and Lamar Jackson will see an uptick in playing time at cornerback. Jeff Smith is active after being listed with a shoulder injury, while Josh Andrews, Jamison Crowder, John Franklin-Myers, Frank Gore, Ty Johnson, Frankie Luvu and Nathan Shepherd are all good to go after being listed on the injury report at different points leading up the weekend.

Along with Guidry, New York’s inactives include Lawrence Cager, Trevon Coley, Chase McLaughlin, James Morgan, James Murray and Ross Travis. Assistant head coach and wide receivers coach Shawn Jefferson won’t attend the game as a result of a COVID-19 high-risk close contact. It’s likely that offensive assistant Hines Ward will assume Jefferson’s role as New York’s wide receivers coach. Defensive assistant Blake Williams will also not attend for the second week in a row for a non-illness related reason.

While the Jets are relatively healthy entering Sunday afternoon, the same cannot be said for the Browns. Rashard Higgins, KhaDarel Hodge, Jarvis Landry and Donovan Peoples-Jones were all placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday night and will not suit up, leaving Cleveland without its top four wideouts against the Jets. Linebackers B.J. Goodson and Jason Phillips also landed on the reserve/COVID-19 list and will be sidelined in Week 16.

The Browns are also down two starting offensive linemen, as tackle Jedrick Wills Jr. is out with an illness and guard Wyatt Teller was ruled out earlier this week with an ankle injury.
