In a wild twist, the Bears are now down to their third-string quarterback. The Jets will now be facing Nathan Peterman instead of Trevor Siemian.

Per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, Siemian injured his oblique in warmups today so it will be Peterman, who was just called up from the practice squad Saturday as insurance for Justin Fields. As it turns out, the Bears needed to cash in that policy. It also means Peterman is now the only healthy quarterback for the Bears.

Running back David Montgomery is the emergency quarterback for Chicago. Siemian will still be the No. 2 quarterback since he is already active. Justin Fields is inactive.

The Jets are 7-point favorites, per Tipico Sportsbook. The over/under is 37.5. You have to wonder how ugly the day is going to be for the Bears now with Peterman against the Jets defense and with Chicago missing two starters — Jaquan Brisker and Kyler Gordon — in the secondary.

Update: The Bears are now saying it is a game-time decision as to who the quarterback will be, as we are mere minutes away from kickoff.

The inactives have dropped for the Jets against the Bears and there is a surprise among the list. RB James Robinson has been deemed a healthy scratch, meaning Michael Carter, Ty Johnson and Zonovan Knight will be the three running backs against the Bears.

The other inactives aren’t too surprising, though a minor change at the wide receiver position. With Corey Davis back, the Jets have made Jeff Smith inactive, allowing them to have both Denzel Mims and Elijah Moore active again.

Then of course, we already knew Zach Wilson would be inactive. Head coach Robert Saleh announced that on Wednesday when he named Mike White the starter.

The full list of inactives for the Jets:

QB Zach Wilson
WR Jeff Smith
TE Kenny Yeboah
RB James Robinson
DT Sheldon Rankins
CB Bryce Hall
S Tony Adams

For the Bears, QB Justin Fields is out with a shoulder injury. Trevor Siemian gets the start with Nathan Peterman as the backup.

Jets activate Max Mitchell, elevate Chazz Surratt, Tanzel Smart from practice squad

Max Mitchell is officially back

Max Mitchell is officially back. The Jets announced Saturday that they have activated the rookie offensive tackle from injured reserve and he will rejoin the active roster for Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears.

Mitchell had been out since injuring his knee in Week 4 against the Pittsburgh Steelers and returned to practice on November 16. He started the first three games of the season at right tackle, a spot he may return to on Sunday.

Tanzel Smart will make his second appearance on the gameday roster after being elevated from the practice squad for a second week in a row. He recorded two tackles in 18 snaps last week against the Patriots.

Chazz Surratt is being elevated for the first time season as the Jets add depth at the linebacker after waiving Marcell Harris, who has been signed to the practice squad. Surratt is making his first appearance for the Jets in his second year in the NFL. He was a third-round pick for the Minnesota Vikings in 2021, appearing in nine games.

With Harris joining the practice squad, the Jets released offensive lineman Chris Glaser from the practice squad.

Jets vs. Bears final injury report: Davis, Gardner good to go

Corey Davis and Sauce Gardner are good to go for Sunday

Wide receiver Corey Davis is back for the Jets. He got in a full week of practice and will be back in the lineup for the first time since injuring his ankle in Week 7 against the Broncos.

Cornerback Sauce Gardner was limited Wednesday and Thursday but got in a full practice Friday and has no game designation for Sunday. He is good to go. Same story for guard Nate Herbig and Quincy Williams.

Duane Brown (shoulder) is listed as questionable, but that’s been a weekly thing for Brown. He’ll be good to go as well.

Kenny Yeboah (calf) is doubtful and likely will miss his second straight game, making Jeremy Ruckert the third tight end again. Sheldon Rankins (elbow) will be out again.

The Jets have until 4:00 eastern Saturday to activate Max Mitchell from injured reserve for him to be able to play Sunday.

For the Bears, the story all week has been the status of quarterback Justin Fields. He is listed as questionable with his shoulder injury after being limited in practice all week.

DB Jaquan Brisker, DB Kyler Gordon and LB Sterling Weatherford are all out with concussions.

Jets Wednesday injury report: Corey Davis returns to practice, Sauce Gardner limited but should be good for Sunday

Corey Davis back at practice, Sauce limited but should be good for Sunday.

Two players returned to practice this week for the Jets as they prepare for the Chicago Bears in Week 12 on Sunday.

Wide receiver Corey Davis (knee) was a full participant in practice, his first practice since suffering the knee injury in Week 7 against the Denver Broncos. Offensive lineman George Fant (knee) is also back. The Jets opened up his 21-day window to return from injured reserve. Fant has been out since injuring his knee in Week 3 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Two players missed Wednesday’s practice: DT Sheldon Rankins (elbow) and TE Kenny Yeboah (calf). Head coach Robert Saleh said it’s “not looking good for this week” regarding Rankins and said “we’ll see how the week goes, day-to-day” on Yeboah.

One notable player who was limited Wednesday was cornerback Sauce Gardner. Saleh said Gardner is dealing with a calf and will be limited but that “we’re not worried about the game.”

Also limited Wednesday were OT Duane Brown (shoulder), OG Nate Herbig (shin) and LB Quincy Williams (ankle).

Brown will have his normal week, Saleh said. And the team feels good about Herbig’s chances of playing Sunday after he was active but did not start against the Patriots.

For the Bears, the big story is the shoulder of quarterback Justin Fields, who has a separated shoulder with partially torn ligaments” according to Fields. “Basically an AC joint,” he said.

Fields was limited in practice. DB Jaquan Brisker, DB Kyler Gordon and LB Sterling Weatherford are all dealing with concussions. Brisker and Gordon would be key losses for the Bears defense if they can’t go, so that will be worth monitoring.

DB Dane Cruikshank (hamstring) and OL Teven Jenkins (hip) were listed as full participants.

Justin Fields ‘day-to-day’ with shoulder injury

Some injury news regarding Justin Fields, the leader of the Jets’ Week 12 opponent

Here’s something to watch regarding the Jets’ next opponent. Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus said Monday that quarterback Justin Fields is “day-to-day” with a left shoulder injury.

Fields was dealing with pain and got an x-ray and an IV after Chicago’s 27-24 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. The Bears now sit at 3-8 after the loss, last place in the NFC North.

In a weird twist, Eberflus also wouldn’t rule out the injury being season-ending, per ESPN’s Courtney Cronin. That’s quite the range of timeframes for Fields.

This is obviously something worth monitoring for the Jets throughout the week. For the record, the backup quarterback for the Bears is Trevor Siemian and they also have Nathan Peterman on their practice squad.
