1 Owner, 2 General Managers, 3 Oline coaches, hundreds of teammates, and thousands of die hard fans… it’s been a hell of a 3 years and I enjoyed every single day of being a JET! I firstly want to thank the organization for the opportunity to be a part of the Gang Green family. From the first time I visited Florham Park, I’ve been treated with the utmost respect and professionalism. Being the recipient of the teams Walter Payton Man of the Year award was a truly an honor and a memory that will forever be seared in my soul. For that I thank you. . To my brothers in the locker room… damn I’m going to miss y’all!! The daily battles at practice, the gut cramping laughter, and the genuine passion and emotion on game day… these are the times that made me truly love being a Jet. For that I thank you. . Lastly to Jets Nation aka the amazing fans… thank you for your unwavering support over the last few years. Through the ups, downs, rain, or frozen tundra… y’all showed constant love! For that I thank you. . All that being said… New Jersey and New York it’s been real! My journey is far from over. Just happen to be turning the page to a new chapter 🤙🏿✊🏿. . @nyjets @nfl @teamifa

Harrison, 29, spent the first three years of his career with the Colts before joining the Jets in 2017. He played in 40 games for New York, starting 19.

A dependable backup over the last three years, Harrison is a surprise cut considering the emphasis the Jets have placed on the offensive line this season. In addition, Harrison was a well-respected veteran leader in the locker room.

With Harrison announcing his release, he joins LB James Burgess on the list of Jets cuts thus far.

“It’s been a hell of a 3 years,” Harrison wrote, “and I enjoyed every single day of being a JET!

The Jets’ first cut of the weekend is notable but no surprise.

LB James Burgess did not make New York’s initial 53-man roster, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. He was cut Friday, a day ahead of Saturday’s 4 p.m. deadline.

A backup linebacker, Burgess has been cut nine times now in his NFL career, but he’s always found another opportunity. He re-signed with the Jets on a one-year deal this past offseason after initially joining the team as a waiver claim last May. Burgess stepped up when injuries plagued the Jets’ linebackers in 2019, recording 80 tackles, half a sack, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. The 26-year-old started 10 games.

Burgess exceeded expectations last year, but there was a numbers crunch at inside linebacker this summer. Burgess was getting reps behind Neville Hewitt, Blake Cashman and Avery Williamson in camp. Burgess also missed some time on the COVID-19 list. He was activated on Aug. 13.

Burgess proved he can be a dependable backup last season in New York, so chances are he will catch on quickly somewhere.
