Chiefs’ updated 80-man roster ahead of preseason Week 3

Be sure you can identify every #Chiefs player on the 80-man roster during preseason Week 3’s game vs. the #Packers

The Kansas City Chiefs will soon face the Green Bay Packers in the preseason finale.

The Chiefs have now been through two waves of roster cuts, which means the offseason roster is down to 80 players. They’ve said goodbye to several players and welcomed some new ones during the course of training camp as they trim their roster ahead of the regular season. This final game will mean a lot for the team as they attempt to assemble the best 53-man roster and 16-man practice squad for the 2022 NFL season.

Be sure that you know how to identify all of Kansas City’s players in the preseason opener. Here is a look at the Chiefs’ 80-man roster by jersey number:

LOOK: New Chiefs DE Carlos Dunlap appears to have a jersey number

The newest #Chiefs edge rusher already appears to have been assigned a jersey number and it’s a familiar one.

Carlos Dunlap hasn’t been a member of the Kansas City Chiefs for that long, but he already appears to have been assigned a jersey number.

Dunlap shared a picture on his Instagram story of a No. 8 Chiefs jersey with his name on it. KSHB-TV producer Nick Jacobs shared the post on Twitter. The caption reads: “Wow. . . they know, great selling point too, they really showing love! Where do I sign lol.”

It’s a familiar jersey number for Dunlap, who wore the No. 8 jersey with the Seahawks last season. He switched from the No. 43 jersey which he wore with Seattle in 2020 when the NFL adopted new rules expanding the usage of single-digit jersey numbers. Dunlap also wore No. 96 with the Cincinnati Bengals for his entire tenure with that team.

The No. 8 jersey was previously worn by WR Justyn Ross this offseason. He was recently placed on injured reserve and is out for the season. As a result, this jersey number was up for grabs.

Mark Ingram, Andy Dalton swap jersey numbers for 2022 season

The Saints announced that Mark Ingram and Andy Dalton swapped jersey numbers ahead of training camp. What about Tyrann Mathieu?

Here’s the news we’ve all been waiting for: Andy Dalton will continue to wear the No. 14 jersey that he’s used throughout his NFL career during his first season with the New Orleans Saints, having swapped out the No. 5 jersey he initially claimed with running back Mark Ingram II. So Dalton is wearing No. 14 again, and Ingram is in No. 5 for the first time.

Ingram has to be close to setting an NFL record for the most jersey numbers worn with one team, (Nos. 5, 14, 22, and 28) right? It could be a team record — Fred McAfee wore three different jersey numbers during his Saints tenure — but I’ll need to do more research to confirm. At any rate, it’s good to see he and Dalton are both happy.

Now what about Tyrann Mathieu? The hometown hero recently expressed his interest in wearing No. 5 himself, to honor his grandmother’s Fifth Ward community, but for now that number belongs to Ingram. He could get No. 5 from Ingram should a different number open up, but that’s not likely to happen until roster cuts begin later in August and early September. Some more dominoes may need to fall before Mathieu’s number is officially settled.

Saints’ 90-man roster for training camp, by uniform number

All 90 players on the New Orleans Saints’ roster for training camp, listed by jersey number, via @DillySanders:

As we approach training camp, we wanted to provide another update on what the New Orleans Saints official 90-man roster looks like. There have been a lot of additions over the offseason, and with veteran players reporting to camp in about a week it’s a good time to get reacquainted with everyone.

We’ve ordered the full list by jersey number, but it is important to note that these numbers are subject to change as the depth chart gets cut down before Week 1. Numbers will start to open up and players will want to jump on the opportunity to change to something more their liking.

For now though, here are all 90 players under contract with the Saints, ordered by their jersey number:

Florida men’s basketball releases jersey numbers for 2022-23 season

Time to start thinking about basketball! The 2022-23 men’s basketball team has received their jersey numbers for the upcoming season.

The Florida men’s basketball team released jersey numbers for the 2022-23 season on Thursday.

With several members of last year’s team gone and a handful of newcomers to the program, there has been some shuffling of the digits on the team. The roster currently sits at 14 players, one short of the NCAA Division I limit.

While jersey numbers aren’t the most exciting news in the world, it’s what we basketball fans have to cling on to this point in anticipation of the [autotag]Todd Golden[/autotag] era at Florida. So, without further ado, here’s a look at the 2022-23 roster and which numbers the players will be wearing come the winter.

Here’s a quick glance at all of the jerseys, but continue to scroll for a more in-depth look at each player’s number history.

New number, who dis?: Cowboys CB Jourdan Lewis to wear single-digit jersey

The veteran cornerback is switching to No. 2 for the upcoming season, after wearing both 27 and 26 over five seasons in Dallas. | From @ToddBrock24f7

Jourdan Lewis has new digits. Well, a new digit.

The veteran cornerback will apparently be sporting the No. 2 jersey when he takes the field for the Cowboys this season. Lewis revealed the switch with a shot of the new nameplate above his locker at The Star in Frisco, which he posted to his Instagram stories on Wednesday.

It will be Lewis’s third different jersey number in six seasons with Dallas. He wore 27 for his first three years; he switched in 2020 to 26, the number he wore as a two-time first-team All-American at Michigan.

Kicker Greg Zuerlein owned the No. 2 jersey most recently for the Cowboys.

Lewis is the third member of the current Cowboys secondary to wear a single digit, after a rule change for the 2021 season opened up those numbers to players other than quarterbacks, kickers, and punters. Fellow cornerback Trevon Diggs wears No. 7, while safety Donovan Wilson wears No. 6.

Lewis may have wanted to get the new-number request in before next month’s NFL draft. The Cowboys are thought by many to be seriously considering speedy wide receiver Chris Olave, who wore No. 2 at Ohio State.

Never put it past a former Wolverine to pre-emptively block a Buckeye rival from getting his college number, even if for no other reason than because he can.

Drew Lock switched from No. 3 as a ‘sign of respect’ for Russell Wilson

Drew Lock won’t wear No. 3 with the Seahawks. “It’s a sign of respect” for Russell Wilson, the QB said.

Drew Lock wore No. 3 in high school and college before going on to wear the number in his first three years in the NFL with the Denver Broncos.

When Lock was traded to the Seattle Seahawks, he switched to No. 2. The quarterback has since explained why he’s not wearing No. 3, which was formerly worn by Russell Wilson in Seattle.

“Well, for one, as long as football goes on, Russell Wilson will be very special to this place, very special to Seattle,” Lock said at his introductory press conference on Monday. “And I know what it takes to, kind of build a legacy. You know, you wouldn’t, you wouldn’t go wear 18 in Indianapolis, you wouldn’t go wear 12 in Green Bay. It’s a sign of respect for him from me, but also at the same time, I want to write my own story here. You know, I want to see what two does for us. You know, I want to make that me.

“You know, I don’t want to fight against Russell, he’s done so many great things for this place and so many great things for the city of Seattle and the state of Washington. I want two to remember it as Drew Lock, not three was Russell and Drew. I want two to be Drew, and that’s just kind of been my mindset on it. I have the utmost respect for him and that was kind of a move in showing that.”

Wilson earned nine Pro Bowl nods, reached two Super Bowls and won a title while playing for the Seahawks from 2012-2021. He’s a future Hall of Famer. Meanwhile, Lock isn’t even guaranteed to start for Seattle this season, so it was probably a smart move to change numbers and start fresh.

Wilson will continue wearing No. 3 in Denver and his jerseys are already on sale — fans have made them the NFL’s hottest-selling jersey since the trade.

Seahawks QB Drew Lock changes jersey numbers, wants ‘2 to be Drew’

Seattle Seahawks’ newest quarterback Drew Lock changed his jersey number from the No. 3 he wore in Denver because he wants “2 to be Drew.”

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqbycpfe4qgv9nf6 player_id=none image=https://seahawkswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

Drew Lock got his first chance to speak to the local media on Monday since his trade to the Seahawks from the Broncos. While it’s too early to tell whether or not Lock will get the chance to start here in Seattle, he knows he won’t replace Russell Wilson.

Instead, he’s looking forward to creating his own story in the Emerald City.

Well, for one, as long as football goes on, Russell Wilson will be very special to this place, very special to Seattle,” Lock told reporters. “And I know what it takes to, kind of build a legacy. You know, you wouldn’t, you wouldn’t go wear 18 in Indianapolis, you wouldn’t go wear 12 in Green Bay. It’s a sign of respect for him from me, but also at the same time, I want to write my own story here.”

For that very reason, Lock has opted to switch jersey numbers, and will now wear No. 2 instead of the No. 3 he had worn at Missouri and in Denver.

“You know, I don’t want to fight against Russell, he’s done so many great things for this place and so many great things for the city of Seattle and the state of Washington,” Lock explained. “I want two to remember it as Drew Lock, not three was Russell and Drew. I want two to be Drew, and that’s just kind of been my mindset on it.

“I have the utmost respect for him and that was kind of a move in showing that.

LOOK: Carson Wentz will be wearing No. 11 for the Commanders

Carson Wentz is back in his old No. 11 jersey for the Commanders.

Carson Wentz is officially the new quarterback of the Washington Commanders. At 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Washington’s trade with Indianapolis for Wentz became official, and the team welcomed its new quarterback on Twitter.

Shortly after the brief Twitter video showing Wentz’s highlights from 2021, with the caption, “Welcome to the DMV, Carson,” the team released a graphic showing Wentz in the team’s brand new black alternates.

From the graphic, it’s evident Wentz will be returning to his old No. 11 — the number he donned during the first five years of his NFL career with the Eagles and in college. Wentz wore No. 2 in 2021 with the Colts.

Wentz appears happy to be back in his old number.

Wide receiver Cam Sims wore No. 11 in 2021, and he is currently a free agent. However, the team was attempting to bring him back. Sims wore No. 89 during the first three seasons of his NFL career with the Commanders.
