Titans elevate Jeremy McNichols, Cameron Batson from practice squad for Week 2

The Titans have chosen their two players to elevate from the practice squad for Week 2.

With the option to elevate two players from the practice squad on game day, the Tennessee Titans have decided to add running back Jeremy McNichols and wide receiver Cameron Batson ahead of the Week 2 contest against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Both players will revert to the practice squad on Monday.

Tennessee will be without rookie running back Darrynton Evans for a second straight week, which means McNichols will assume the duty of spelling star rusher Derrick Henry in the rare instances he doesn’t get the ball.

McNichols, who was also elevated in Week 1, didn’t get much work in the season-opener, as he saw just one target and zero carries.

Assuming that 2020 UDFA Nick Westbrook-Ikhine is active, Batson will serve as the Titans’ fifth receiver after fellow wideout A.J. Brown was ruled out on Friday.

The Titans and Jaguars will kick off their Week 2 battle for first place at noon CT on Sunday at Nissan Stadium. Tennessee has won five of its last six against Jacksonville and hasn’t lost to the Jags in Nashville since 2013.

Watch: Broncos’ Josey Jewell rips helmet off Titans’ Jeremy McNichols

The Broncos’ Josey Jewell tore the helmet straight off the head of Tennessee’s Jeremy McNichols.

The Titans’ Jeremy McNichols had the ball and then he had no protection for his cranium.

Denver’s Josey Jewell attempted to tackle the first-year Titan RB and grabbed his facemask, ripping his helmet off in the process Monday night in the second half at Mile High.

While the play should have been dead once the helmet came off, McNichols continued running. His mouthpiece actually remained in his mouth despite the helmet going in the other direction.

Jewell’s handiwork cost Denver 15  yards on the play for grabbing the facemask, a personal foul.

Titans add Jeremy McNichols, waive 2 others

The Titans brought back McNichols and waived two others this week.

The Tennessee Titans made some roster moves on Wednesday, agreeing to terms with a player whose name many will recognize.

The team agreed to terms with running back Jeremy McNichols, while also waiving running back Cameron Scarlett and linebacker Khaylan Kearse-Thomas.

The move comes at a time when the Titans have had to give some extra time to fullback Khari Blasingame at the position behind starter Derrick Henry after rookie rusher Darrynton Evans has missed multiple practices.

McNichols, a fifth-round pick by Tampa Bay in the 2017 NFL Draft out of Boise State, is quite the journeyman at this point.

In addition to spending the 2019 preseason with the Titans and 2018 on the practice squad, he’s also seen time with the Jaguars, Bears, Broncos, Colts, and 49ers.

Over his NFL career, McNichols has played in five games and recorded four carries for eight yards.

The 5-foot-9, 205-pounder had a successful college career at Boise State, where he recorded over 2,100 yards from scrimmage in 2016.

Before the Titans, McNichols also saw time with the San Francisco 49ers, Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos.
