Auburn is latest offer for 2025 4-star DL Reginald Vaughn

The Tigers are the fourth SEC school to offer Vaughn in the past three days.

Four-star defensive lineman [autotag]Reginald Vaughn[/autotag] has seen his recruitment blow up in June. From Madison, Mississippi, he has added offers from LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Tulsa this month.

The 2025 prospect took a trip to Auburn to take part in their OL/DL camp on Friday and afterward, the Tigers became the latest school to offer the 6-foot-2, 257-pounder.

He is the No. 169 overall prospect and No. 18 defensive lineman in the 247Sports Composite ranking. He is also the No. 7 player from Mississippi.

Vaughn is the 9th player from Mississippi that Auburn has offered in the 2025 recruiting cycle as the Tigers lean on [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag]’s connections to the state he used to coach in.

Defensive line coach [autotag]Jeremy Garrett[/autotag] is also from Mississippi and is Vaughn’s primary recruiter. Garrett has already landed one defensive lineman in the 2025 class as four-star [autotag]Malik Autry[/autotag] has been committed since Feb. 1.

Auburn is a finalist for 3-star DL Marcus Downs

The Tigers are firmly in the mix for the talented defensive lineman from South Carolina.

Auburn is looking to land its first commitment along the defensive line but defensive line coach [autotag]Jeremy Garrett[/autotag] has the Tigers in a great place with several top targets.

One of them is three-star [autotag]Marcus Downs[/autotag] who announced his final five schools on Tuesday. The Greer, South Carolina product included Auburn, Tennessee, Georgia Tech, North Carolina and Georgia.

Downs visited Auburn back in April and the Tigers are now working to get him back on campus for an official visit. The 6-foot-5, 260-pounder has the ability to play all across the defensive line, something that Garret and the rest of Auburn’s coaching staff value.

He is the No. 553 overall player and No. 54 defensive lineman in the 247Sports Composite ranking. He is also the No. 8 player from South Carolina.

Local DL target can ‘see himself playing’ for Jeremy Garrett

Malik Blocton took an unofficial visit last weekend to watch spring practice.

[autotag]Malik Blocton[/autotag] has been an Auburn target for quite some time and the Pike Road, Alabama, product returned to the Plains this weekend to watch practice.

One thing the three-star product got to see was how defensive line coach [autotag]Jeremy Garrett[/autotag] handled practice. He clearly liked what he saw from what he said to Auburn Undercover’s Christian Clemente after the visit.

“It probably will move them up,” Blocton told Clemente. “I just love Coach Garrett, I see myself playing for him.”

He is the No. 720 overall player and No. 65 defensive lineman in the 247Sports Composite ranking. He is also the No. 34 player from Alabama.

It was far from Blocton’s first visit to Auburn. He is the younger brother of Auburn defensive lineman [autotag]Marcus Harris[/autotag] and was at each home game last season and was in attendance for Auburn’s Junior Day.

4-star DL Jeremiah Beaman sets visit for A-Day

He is one of the best players in Alabama and a key target for Auburn.

Auburn is looking to sign a top 10 recruiting class in the 2024 cycle and the core of that class will be made of in-state players. One of the top players from Alabama is four-star defensive lineman [autotag]Jeremiah Benson[/autotag].

The 6-foot-4, 265-pounder has not been back to campus since [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] was hired but he is hoping to change that with a visit for Auburn’s A-Day game on April 8, according to Cole Pinkston of Auburn Live.

Beaman is the No. 93 overall player and No. 12 defensive lineman in the 247Sports Composite ranking. The Birmingham native is also the No. 5 player from Alabama.

In nine games last season, he made 50 tackles, 10.0 tackles for loss, 10.0 sacks, and three interceptions for Parker High School.

While he was offered under the previous staff, defensive line coach [autotag]Jeremy Garrett[/autotag] is his primary recruiter and has Auburn firmly in the mix for the talented defender.

Auburn offers 5-star EDGE Elijah Rushing

Auburn has entered the mix for one of the top recruits in the country.

Auburn has entered the mix for one of the top recruits in the country.

On Sunday the Tigers offered five-star edge rusher [autotag]Elijah Rushing[/autotag]. The 6-foot-6, 255-pounder announced the news on Twitter.

He is the No. 16 overall player and No. 3 EDGE rusher in the 247Sports Composite ranking. The Tuscon native is also the No. 2 player in Arizona.

Auburn will have ground to make up as Rushing had narrowed his schools to a top 12 of Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Oregon, Tennessee, UCLA, USC, and Washington. However, he has stated other schools could enter the picture and that is exactly what defensive line coach [autotag]Jeremy Garrett[/autotag] and Auburn are trying to do.

Rushing had a monster junior season for Salpointe Catholic High School, making 73 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, and 59 quarterback hurries in 12 games.

New Auburn assistant up for defensive line coach of the year

One of Hugh Freeze’s new hires is among the best position coaches in the country.

[autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] has hired one of the best assistant coaches in the country according to Football Scoop.

[autotag]Jeremy Garrett[/autotag], who recently followed Freeze to Auburn from Liberty to serve as defensive line coach, has been nominated by Football Scoop for defensive line coach of the year.

Liberty’s front unit was led by Kendy Charles and Durrell Johnson, who recorded 60 and 58 tackles respectively. Johnson led the Flames with nine sacks, and tackles for loss with 27.5. Johnson was also Liberty’s highest-graded defensive player according to Pro Football Focus with an 81.0.

Dennis Osagiede was also a key piece to Liberty’s defensive success. He was second on the team with six sacks, and 12.5 tackles for loss. As a team, Liberty made 109 tackles for loss, which ranks at the top of College Football, and recorded 45 sacks, which ranks No. 3 in the country.

Garrett is one of three former Liberty assistants that new head coach Hugh Freeze brought to the Plains, joining tight ends coach [autotag]Ben Aigamaua[/autotag] and linebackers coach [autotag]Josh Aldridge[/autotag]. Garrett will serve as the defensive line coach for defensive coordinator [autotag]Ron Roberts[/autotag].

New hires to Hugh Freeze’s staff become official

Here’s a rundown of the hires that Hugh Freeze has made, and what their role will be within the staff.

Being a newly-hired head coach during this day and time has become challenging.

Not only do you have to construct a new staff, but you must do that while maintaining and improving your recruiting class before the beginning of the early signing period.

Auburn’s [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] has done a great job juggling both tasks. He recently signed the nation’s No. 19 recruiting class, which is a vast improvement from before his hire. He has also put together a respectable staff that is sure to go a long way in rebuilding the program to become one of the best in the SEC.

Freeze’s staff is headlined by [autotag]Philip Montgomery[/autotag], who will serve as offensive coordinator. Montgomery is best known for being the mastermind behind Baylor’s high-powered offenses during the early 2010s and for being the college offensive coordinator for quarterbacks Case Keenum and Robert Griffin III.

Other key hires are [autotag]Cadillac Williams[/autotag] and [autotag]Zac Etheridge[/autotag], who are retained from the previous staff. Williams served as interim head coach following the dismissal of [autotag]Bryan Harsin[/autotag], and led the Tigers to a 2-2 record to close out the season. Freeze says that one of his first priorities when landing the Auburn job was to keep Williams on staff.

“I had already done my homework on people that we had in common, friends, I knew that my first priority was “I have to have Cadillac on my side to help me drive the culture of Auburn Football,” Freeze said during his introductory press conference in November.

Williams will serve as the running backs coach and associate head coach. As for Etheridge, he will coach the secondary alongside [autotag]Wesley McGriff[/autotag], who comes to Auburn for his third stint. Those three have been vital in recruiting and will go a long way in building sustained success for the program.

Joining Etheridge and McGriff defensively will be [autotag]Ron Roberts[/autotag] as defensive coordinator, [autotag]Jeremy Garrett[/autotag] as the defensive line coach, and [autotag]Josh Aldridge[/autotag] will coach linebackers.

Freeze has also hired two offensive assistants in addition to Williams and Montgomery. Jake Thronton comes to Auburn from Ole Miss, where he will coach the offensive line. Freeze also brings tight ends coach Ben Aigamaua from Liberty to Auburn.

Two other names that have been linked to Auburn are [autotag]Dominic Studzinski[/autotag] and [autotag]Kent Austin[/autotag]. Freeze shares an update on their roles within the staff:

“Strength and conditioning Dominic Studzinski and Kent Austin is our chief quality control of the program that overseas if we say we’re gonna do something a certain way let’s do it that way,” Freeze said. “So I’m excited about our staff and we’ll be bringing in the rest of the off-the-field support staff along with the wide receiver coach at the beginning of the new year.”

The only position group that does not have a coach to this point is wide receivers, which Freeze says will be taken care of soon. Freeze blames recruiting for the lack of a receiver coach hire, but I think that we will let that slide.
