Unique mock draft has Vikings landing a RB from 2026 draft class

FOX Sports’ Rob Rang imagined a mock draft with first and second-year players, leading the Vikings to select an intriguing sophomore running back.

With Senior Bowl week ending, we’ll dive head-first into mock draft season. Players must be removed from high school for three years before being eligible for the NFL draft, so we focus primarily on juniors and seniors.

But with the ever-changing landscape of college football, could it be possible to see this rule change soon? FOX Sports NFL draft analyst Rob Rang wondered about this and had a unique twist on his mock draft.

He included players in their first and second years in his 2025 mock, leading to Arch Manning getting drafted first overall to the Tennessee Titans. This provided the Minnesota Vikings with an intriguing selection at pick No. 24.

Rang had the Vikings select Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love. The sophomore running back had a spectacular 2024 season, rushing for 1,125 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 6.9 yards per carry. And with Aaron Jones set for free agency (and being 30 when the 2025 season begins), Love would make sense.

Aaron Jones performed well for the Vikings in 2024, but I’ll be surprised if they don’t take advantage of this year’s running back class. Love, just a sophomore, helped power Notre Dame’s run to the national title game, showing off a slashing style that would match perfectly with the Vikings’ playmakers at receiver. And, at least in this mock draft, selecting a second consecutive Golden Domer might steal some thunder from the rival Packers (he had them select Notre Dame CB Benjamin Morrison at pick No. 23).

Running back would be tempting at pick No. 24 if the Vikings could address their interior offensive and defensive lines in free agency. Love won’t be available this year, but the 2025 running back class is strong and deep. Even if selecting the Notre Dame back isn’t possible this year, the thought process could be used to select a Day 1 starter sometime in this draft.

Two Notre Dame football stars named to top-10 2025 impact player list

The Irish return two bonafide stars In ‘25

With the college football season having been completed for just over a week, it’s never to early to look ahead to next fall and what Notre Dame could look like.

While the Irish lost star cornerback Benjamin Morrison, the rest of the roster turnover was made up of a few transfer backups and players who no longer had eligibility. That means that Notre Dame will be returning some elite players, and On3’s list to top-10 players for the 2025 season confirmed that.

Irish star cornerback [autotag]Leonard Moore[/autotag] and running back [autotag]Jeremiyah Love[/autotag] made the list, as the pair had plenty of eyes on them during the run to the College Football Playoff Championship game.

Moore came in at No. 8, and is coming off a Freshman All-American season after 48 tackles, 2 forced fumbles and two interceptions. He also batted away 11 passes, and if he can turn just a few of those into takeaways in the fall, Moore could make more All-American teams in the future.

Love was the last player on the list, but you could make an argument he should be higher. He gained 1,125-yards on the ground with 17 touchdowns, while catching 28 receptions for 237-yards and two more scores.

Love did all of that while battling multiple injuries, and if he can stay healthy, he’s got a chance to make All-American honors as well. While I don’t think the volume will be there for him to win the Heisman, Love is still one of the most electric players in the country.

Notre Dame vs. Ohio State: Third-Quarter Analysis

It’s not over yet, but the Irish better do something quickly.

If Notre Dame wants to win the College Football Playoff title game over Ohio State now, it better make its move quickly. Only 15 minutes remain, and the third quarter showed the Irish are no closer to slowing down the Buckeyes. They trail, 31-15.

Any hopes of the Irish seizing momentum after halftime were snuffed out on the second play of the quarter, which saw Quinshon Judkins run for 70 yards. Three plays later, Judkins had his fourth touchdown since the Irish had gotten a first down when he ran into the end zone from right next to the goal line.

On the Irish’s first possession of the second half, they promptly turned the ball over on downs after [autotag]Jordan Faison[/autotag] couldn’t handle a fourth-down pass from [autotag]Steve Angeli[/autotag]. That set the Buckeyes up in good field position, but to the Irish’s credit, they allowed only one first down this time. Still, the Buckeyes added onto their lead when Jayden Fielding kicked a 46-yard field goal.

The Irish finally broke their first-down drought when they took the ball back, albeit on a third-down pass interference call. But that proved to at least momentarily spark something within the Irish’s offense as it moved the ball better than it had since the opening drive.

This particular drive culminated with [autotag]Riley Leonard[/autotag]’s pass to [autotag]Jaden Greathouse[/autotag], who had enough space to score a 34-yard touchdown. Leonard then threw a short pass to [autotag]Jeremiyah Love[/autotag] for the two-point conversion. Just like that, the Irish had life again.

The momentum was snuffed out on the next possession though when [autotag]RJ Obe[/autotag]n was penalized for roughing the passer. The Buckeyes already were starting to drive, and this put them in Irish territory. That’s where we stand, and the Irish are in trouble.

Watch as Notre Dame WR Jaden Greathouse scores a big TD against Ohio State

Notre Dame gets a much-needed TD from Jaden Greathouse.

Notre Dame has been struggling to score against Ohio State all night in the national championship game, but wide receiver [autotag]Jaden Greathouse[/autotag] may have just given the Irish life.

Greathouse took what looked like a routine pass and broke some tackles to scamper 34 yards to the end zone to cap off a 10-play, 75-yard drive that took 4:49. Quarterback [autotag]Riley Leonard [/autotag]hit a shovel pass to running back [autotag]Jeremiyah Love[/autotag] for the two-point conversion.

Notre Dame is still down a bunch, 31-15, and searching for a stop or turnover to get a comeback truly started.

Notre Dame vs. Ohio State injury report shows clean bill of health for Fighting Irish

Notre Dame says all student-athletes on the two-deep are available for the national championship game.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have no injury report surprises ahead of the national championship game against the Ohio State Buckeyes.

According to the team, all student-athletes listed on the two-deep depth chart are available.

That means that [autotag]Beaux Collins[/autotag] and [autotag]Jeremiyah Love[/autotag] should be good to go. Offensive lineman [autotag]Rocco Spindler[/autotag], too.

Of course, some players like [autotag]Rylie Mills[/autotag] and [autotag]Anthonie Knapp[/autotag] are done for the season. Notre Dame has been hit by the injury bug, but yet the Irish have still advanced this far.

More experts pick Notre Dame-Ohio State

More experts predict Monday’s national championship tilt.

The experts continue to weigh in on the national championship matchup between Notre Dame and Ohio State.

Let’s start with the The Athletic’s Pete Sampson.

Sampson says that while the pregame spread strikes him as about right, he also thinks the Fighting Irish will beat the Buckeyes 21-20.

“There might not be a program in the country that knows itself better than Notre Dame, which means the Irish won’t blink on Monday night,” he writes. “If [head coach Marcus] Freeman can drag his alma mater into a four-quarter rock fight, Notre Dame will be the more comfortable team throwing stones. Ohio State is built to blow you away. Notre Dame is built to grind you down. The latter prevails.”

Other Athletic staffers, however, predict that Ohio State will win while covering the spread. Only one has Notre Dame either winning or losing by less than 8.5.

Is Jeremiyah Love playing today? Injury updates for Notre Dame RB

Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love is dealing with a knee injury. Here are the latest update

Notre Dame Fighting Irish running back [autotag]Jeremiyah Love[/autotag] has been fighting a knee injury since the regular-season finale against USC.

Love wore a brace during the College Football Playoff semifinal win against Penn State. He had relatively pedestrian numbers against the Nittany Lions, but he also gutted out a tough touchdown run.

Love appears to have been practicing without the brace.

In other Notre Dame injury news, wide receiver Beaux Collins is expected to play. Meanwhile, left tackle Anthonie Knapp is out, with Charles Jagusah the likely replacement. The status of right guard Rocco Spindler is unclear.

Jeremiyah Love injury update

Jeremiyah Love has been fighting a nagging knee injury, even to the point of wearing a brace, but it appears he’ll be full go for the national championship game and may even be able to shed the brace.

As for Collins, he’s raring to go.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” he told the South Bend Tribune. “I’m appreciative of my teammates and coaches that got us here. It’s going to be a fun show for sure. It’s going to be a shootout. Physical game as well. Both run games are great, but we’re going to have to make some plays in the passing game.”

How long will Jeremiyah Love be out?

He appears ready to go for Monday’s game.

Notre Dame running back depth chart

Backing up Love is Jadarian Price, who’s had a solid year toting the football himself. He and Love form a nice 1-2 punch and Price can handle the workload should Love be sidelined. Aneyas Williams has had some key carries, as well. Devyn Ford is next off the bench following Wiliams.

Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love practices without brace ahead of national championship game

Jeremiyah Love and Notre Dame appear to get good injury news.

Notre Dame running back [autotag]Jeremiyah Love[/autotag] has been hampered by a knee injury since the regular-season finale against the USC Trojans.

He even wore a brace during Notre Dame’s 27-24 win over Penn State in the Capital One Orange Bowl — the victory that sent the Fighting Irish to the national championship game against Ohio State.

According to South Bend Tribune Notre Dame beat writer Mike Berardino, Love was practicing without the brace during the portion of Notre Dame practice that’s open to the media.

If Love doesn’t need the brace and is feeling closer to 100 percent, that’s huge for the Fighting Irish. He’s arguably their most potent offensive weapon and his running ability will be needed to keep Ohio State’s offense off of the field.

The brace and injury did seem to limit Love against Penn State — he had just 46 yards on only 11 carries, though he did gut out a key touchdown.

The Irish have been hounded by injuries all season long. Perhaps, however, one of the key players will be back at full go for the most important game of the season.

Is Jeremiyah Love playing today? Injury updates for Notre Dame running back

Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love is dealing with a knee injury. Here are the latest updates.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish running back [autotag]Jeremiyah Love[/autotag] hurt his knee against USC and then tweaked it against Georgia in Notre Dame’s 23-10 win over the Bulldogs in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal.

He has a brace on his knee, but Notre Dame head coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] has said he should be able to play against the Penn State Nittany Lions in the Capital One Orange Bowl, which is a College Football Playoff semifinal matchup.

Jeremiyah Love injury update

Freeman said Love “had a good week of practice” before adding: “We have to be smart in terms of how much we’re asking him to do in practice. We’ve got to get him ready for the game. Nobody feels 100%, but J Love will be good to go.”

How long will Jeremiyah Love be out?

It appears Love will be able to play against Penn State, though he may be somewhat limited.

Notre Dame running back depth chart

If Love can’t go, or even if he’s available but is limited in terms of snaps, the Fighting Irish have a capable backup in [autotag]Jadarian Price[/autotag] — Price would be a starter on many teams.

[autotag]Aneyas Williams[/autotag] has made some nice plays in limited action, and [autotag]Devin Ford[/autotag] is listed behind him on the depth chart.

Jeremiyah Love is back at practice for Notre Dame, but with a big difference

Will he play?

While Notre Dame football star running back [autotag]Jeremiyah Love[/autotag] deemed himself healthy enough to play against the Penn State Nittany Lions in the [autotag]College Football Playoff[/autotag] semifinals, that might not actually be the case.

Multiple practice videos were shared this weekend, and you can be the judge at what you are seeing.

I don’t like Love’s chances to make a major impact on Thursday. He mentioned the injury was similar to what he suffered against USC, but he had three weeks to recover from that.

Love will have just over a week this time, and as we see in the video, he’s wearing a brace he is trying to adjust to wearing. Jadarian Price and Aneyas Williams will have to step up, if the star is limited.

He is participating in practice, which is a good sign, but seeing Love try to tinker the brace, while most likely in some pain, could slow him on the field.
