Michigan football linebacker heading to SEC via transfer portal

That was abnormally quick. #GoBlue

It was something of a surprise when freshman Michigan football linebacker Jeremiah Beasley — who was an early enrollee and had just completed his first semester with the team — had opted to enter the transfer portal.

The first-year linebacker had garnered rave reviews from coaches and teammates during bowl prep and spring ball and looked to be a part of the Wolverines’ future, but he opted for a change of scenery — quite quickly.

The former Belleville (Mich.) four-star has just as quickly chosen his transfer destination. Per On3’s Hayes Fawcett, Beasley has committed to transfer to Missouri and will do so with all four years of eligibility.

Ranked the No. 377 player in the 2024 247Sports Composite, Beasley did have Mizzou as one of his top schools in his initial recruitment.

With Beasley gone, the Wolverines will rely on the two transfers expected to start in Ernest Hausmann and Jaishawn Barham, as well as senior Jaydon Hood, and juniors Jimmy Rolder and Micah Pollard.

Michigan football loses early enrollee to transfer portal

Best of luck to him. #GoBlue

Another unexpected entry for Michigan football has been made into the transfer portal.

A day after projected starting cornerback DJ Waller, a former three-star from Youngstown, Ohio, entered the transfer portal, a first-year player who hasn’t even truly reached his freshman year is apparently on the move.

Having committed last June, Belleville (Mich.) four-star linebacker Jeremiah Beasley arrived in Ann Arbor in December and participated in bowl prep as the Wolverines made their run to a national championship. Beasley had garnered quite a lot of positive attention from the coaching staff between then and spring and was thought of having a bright future wearing maize and blue.

However, those dreams were dashed for Michigan fans as Beasley is reportedly getting out of his letter of intent and transferring elsewhere.

Considering Beasley has yet to play a down in college football, he’ll have the full complement of eligibility. With Beasley gone, the Wolverines only have Mason Curtis as the 2024 class’ linebacker.

Readiness Level

Long thought to be a Michigan State lean before the Wolverines made an impact, Beasley will likely take a year or two to develop, though as an early enrollee, he could develop a little faster.

Scouting report

Via 247Sports’ Allen Trieu:

Powerful linebacker with short-area explosion. Adequate size, but hits beyond his listed measureables. Was injured as a freshman and had a good sophomore year, but made big strides as a junior and seemed to have his explosiveness all the way back following his recovery. Has a track background and runs and moves around easily in space. Times his blitzes and shoots gaps with good acceleration. Also is a standout at running back and could fit the bill as a bigger back if a school wants to play him there. Three-down linebacker who can fit in a variety of systems.

The Wolverines have four linebackers committed in the cycle. Beasley and Mason Curtis are both four-star commits to the maize and blue. Michigan also has three-star Cole Sullivan and Zach Ludwig in the fold as well.

After Beasley made his announcement, Twitter took notice. We are going to show you the best Twitter reactions after Beasley pledged to Michigan.

Michigan football gets a commitment from prized 2024 in-state recruit

Great get for #Michigan! #GoBlue

Michigan football has had a solid 2024 recruiting cycle, but the past few weeks have seen the Wolverines miss more than hit.

While the maize and blue have gotten in running back Micah Kaapana, edge rushers Devon Baxter and Dominic Nichols, and wide receiver I’Marion Stewart. But, they’ve lost out on linebacker Aaron Chiles, edge rusher Darien Mayo, and cornerback Bryce West, two of three which had appeared to be, at the very least, Michigan leans.

So, the Wolverines needed a win. And on Wednesday, they got one.

Hailing from Belleville (Mich.), linebacker Jeremiah Beasley is rated as a four-star recruit, and is listed as the No. 237 player in the country via the 247Sports proprietary rankings. He’s the 25th-ranked linebacker and fifth-best player in the state of Michigan. And after appearing to be a Michigan State lean for some time, Beasley ultimately opted to commit to Michigan.

Missouri was the other school under strong consideration but also had offers from Colorado, Florida, Nebraska, Penn State, Tennessee, Wisconsin, and many others.

The scouting report from 247Sports’ Allen Trieu:

Powerful linebacker with short-area explosion. Adequate size, but hits beyond his listed measureables. Was injured as a freshman and had a good sophomore year, but made big strides as a junior and seemed to have his explosiveness all the way back following his recovery. Also is a standout at running back and could fit the bill as a bigger back if a school wants to play him there. Three-down linebacker who can fit in a variety of systems.

Beasley is Michigan’s 24th commitment in the 2024 cycle. The Wolverines are currently ranked third in the 247Sports team rankings behind Georgia and Ohio State.

Michigan football continuing to trend for in-state 4-star LB

Landing this kid is high priority. #GoBlue

It seemed unthinkable a few short months ago that one in-state prospect could land at Michigan, but that’s the expectation.

2024 Belleville (Michigan) four-star linebacker Jeremiah Beasley seemed to be a strong Michigan State lean with Michigan football on the outside looking in. However, the Wolverines made him a priority, and his situation has shifted in a hurry.

After visiting Ann Arbor for the annual spring game, a cadre of Michigan (and even an MSU writer) over at 247Sports put in predictions for the maize and blue to land Beasley. Now, a national writer at On3 is doing the same.

Director of recruiting Chad Simmons noted he believes Beasley will be Michigan-bound when he makes his final decision and entered a prediction into the On3 recruiting prediction machine.

While only a 60% prediction, he joins The Wolverine’s EJ Holland in having picks for Beasley to wear a winged helmet. Michigan has a 95.6% chance to land Beasley according to the On3 recruiting prediction machine.

Beasley attends the same high school as top 2025 target, QB Bryce Underwood, rated the No. 1 quarterback in the entire class.

247Sports is the highest-rated when it comes to Beasley’s ranking, with him listed at No. 154 overall, the 13th-best linebacker, and fourth-best player in Michigan.
