Titans’ Jeffery Simmons on Jelly Roll: ‘Meant the world’

Tennessee Titans star defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons made his way to the NFL Honors ceremony in style.

As the team’s nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award, this was already a huge honor, and Simmons has spoken openly about how honored he was to be a nominee for the second consecutive year. 

The Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award recognizes an NFL player for outstanding community service activities off the field, as well as excellence on the field. The award is widely considered one of the league’s most prestigious honors.

On Thursday, Simmons was escorted on the red carpet by none other than superfan Jelly Roll. 

“Having Jelly Roll here (in support) is big. It’s not just big for me, it’s big for the Titans.” Simmons said prior to the event. 

This was a big moment for both Jelly Roll and Simmons, as they got a chance to show the world what #TitanUp stands for. Simmons does a tremendous amount of work with his Give Em A Reason Foundation by hosting giveback initiatives as part of the nonprofit’s mission to serve others through youth empowerment and self-esteem-building opportunities.

Unfortunately, Simmons did not take home the award, which went to Jacksonville Jaguars’ Arik Armstead. But that won’t stop him from making an impact in and around the Nashville area for years to come.

Jelly Roll brings Titans front and center at NFL Honors

Singer Jelly Roll might be the biggest fan of the Tennessee Titans and bit was on full display at NFL Honors on Thursday night.

The Tennessee Titans had a miserable 2024 campaign, finishing 3-14 and earning the No.1 pick in the 2025 NFL draft. 

Given their dismal performance, it should come as no surprise that the Titans have been rather invisible at NFL Honors. But that doesn’t mean they weren’t represented. 

The Titans were once again brought front and center by one of their biggest fans: Jelly Roll. 

Throughout 2024, Jelly Roll never wavered in his fandom and the country superstar remained steadfast in his support even after he voiced frustrations to Buck Reising after a demoralizing loss to the Green Bay Packers early in the season. 

Showing up in full uniform tonight, he once again proved that he may be the Titans’ most visible fan and that his love for the franchise doesn’t end with a disappointing season. 

Tennessee has had a busy offseason so far, and yet, seeing Jelly Roll at this event might be one of the most memorable so far.

Even the Mayor of Nashville has had enough of the Titans

A few weeks ago singer Jelly Roll had enough and now the Mayor of Nashville feels the same way about the Tennessee Titans in 2024.

The Tennessee Titans were throttled by the Detroit Lions in Week 8 action. Not only was this 52-14 defeat the first time the Lions beat the Titans, it was extremely debilitating to the fanbase. 

The Titans were outplayed and outclassed in every aspect of the game, leaving the most hardened fan with a hopeless feeling moving forward. With the team entering firesale mode last week, this season is headed directly on a downward spiral toward the draft. 

The once hearty fans have had enough, even those with a higher profile in the Nashville area. First, it was Jelly Roll, now Mayor Freddie O’Connell.


Nashville is a tremendous city full of life and vibrance, and right now, the Titans are in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Dismal offense, overworked defense, and a special teams unit that is arguably the worst in the entire NFL in multiple facets. 

The Titans are a bad football team, and the “we must play better, and we must coach better” excuses are not working. When it’s only Week 8, and even the Mayor of Nashville wants a refund, you know the season is over!

Even Jelly Roll has had enough of the Titans

The Tennessee Titans’ performance against the Green Bay Packers was so bad, they turned off one of their biggest fans.

The Tennessee Titans were terrible on Sunday, as the Malik Willis-led Green Bay Packers dismantled them 30-14 at Nissan Stadium. 

Not only were the Titans outperformed in all facets of the game, but their performance clearly highlighted probably their biggest weakness: their offensive line. This unit was bad in both the run and pass game and the offense was never able to get into a rhythm.

The game was so bad they even turned off one of their biggest fans: Jelly Roll. 

In an exchange with Buck Reising (on X), the country superstar voiced his frustrations. 

“I can’t watch anymore Buck, text me how bad it was later,” he posted. 

Many Titans felt that sentiment during the game while watching their former quarterback dissect their defense and their current quarterback under siege from a constant barrage of pressure. 

While it’s likely there will be better days ahead, and Jelly Roll can turn the game back on, it may take some time if the offensive line woes are not corrected. Right now, this group is not playing anywhere near the level of an NFL unit and it is not a recipe for success. 

The Titans will return to the field in Miami for a Monday Night match-up with the Dolphins.

A surprise guest dropped in a Tennessee Titans team meeting

The mystery guest of the day isn’t at the Democratic National Convention. Rather, he appeared at a Tennessee Titans team meeting.

Jelly Roll rolled into the gathering and provided a duet — a huge one — with rookie T’Vondre Sweat.

Mr. Roll also provided an inspiring speech for the AFC South team.

Jelly Roll visits Titans, sings with T’Vondre Sweat

American musician Jelly Roll visited the Titans on Thursday and sang with defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat.

The Tennessee Titans got a surprise visit from Tennessee-native and award-winning musician Jelly Roll on Thursday. Head coach Brian Callahan introduced him to the team after practice.

Jelly Roll starts with a song, but first he’s heard that Titans’ rookie defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat wants to sing with him, so he brings the 6-foot-4, 362-pound tackle down to the front and they sing a few bars together.

After Sweat goes back to his seat, Jelly Roll talks about growing up in Antioch, Tennessee. He remembers when the Titans first arrived in Memphis, and he attended the first game. He also said that he comes from a family of bartenders, and once the Titans came, things changed.

“So as soon as the Titans came, we knew that Sunday was a money day,” he said. “I want y’all to think about that, too, when y’all go on that field Sunday, that y’all’s impact is bigger than on the field. It’s happening all around the city. That the vibrations of this are touching everywhere.”

He continued to talk about how the Titans’ impact extends far beyond the 65,000 people who show up on Sundays, that the whole city is counting on them. You could hear the pride in his voice when he talked about going down the wrong path but finding the right one again and getting to bring his daughter to a game the same way his dad brought him.

Because of his past, Jelly Roll knows there’s a juvenile detention center right across the street from the stadium. He aims to be the first person to bring the two sides together and do something really special to help kids see a brighter future.

At the conclusion of his short speech, Jelly Roll shook hands with a few players and hugged Callahan before departing.
