Watch: Jeff Sims scores on 57-yard QB designed run

Jeff Sims has been poor as a passer. This was always true of his game while at Georgia Tech, but what he does bring is athleticism and speed as a runner. Sims used his speed to an advantage as he took the ball 57 yards to score on a quarterback-designed run. Those kinds of moments are what prevent Rhule from making the switch as no other rostered quarterback brings this aspect to their game.

Nebraska has cut into Colorado’s lead by seven points and now trails 13-7 midway through the third. Catch the touchdown run below.

Studs and Duds from Nebraska’s 13-10 loss to Minnesota

As much as things change, they stay the same.

As much as things change, they seem to stay the same. Nebraska had many opportunities to put away Minnesota in the season opener only to fall short,  13-10.

From missed throws, interceptions, fumbles and dumb penalties, there is much for the Cornhuskers to clean up before they take on Colorado. Even in a loss, some players stepped up. Some other players we want to see more of as Nebraska builds off this loss.

With two interceptions in the first half, Nebraska has struggled mightily so far, but finally got something positive. On a trick play that saw Jeff Sims toss the football to the running back before taking the backward pass (while also dropping said backward pass) and passing it to a wide-open Alex Bullock in the end zone.

The game is still within one score, and Nebraska was pushing to land their first points of the young season, but new quarterback Jeff Sims had other plans. Sims has been effective on the ground with his legs, but his second interception on the night, which was much worse than his first, highlights the lack of passing presence the Georgia tech transfer has.

Minnesota was able to break the zero-zero deadlock by adding a field goal of their own in the second quarter. However, as the Nebraska offense was trying to answer with points of their own, they got in their own way. Transfer quarterback, Jeff Sims, gave the ball back to Minnesota with an interception to flip the field

Sims may look good in the run game, but that interception could highlight how little the Cornhuskers offense has tried to pass the football.

Iowa Football 2023 Schedule Breakdown: Nebraska Cornhuskers

Iowa closes its season against Nebraska. What do the new-look Huskers bring to the table in the battle for the Heroes Trophy?

Finally, here it is, the Nebraska game.

It’s been a long road on the 2023 schedule breakdowns. We started this all the way back in the beginning of June before the summer season even began. Now with fall football right around the corner, there is no better way to end it than with the Cornhuskers. The Iowa-Nebraska rivalry game has traditionally been the final regular season game for both teams, set for the day after Thanksgiving.

A rivalry many saw as manufactured, starting once Nebraska made the leap to the Big Ten, Iowa-Nebraska has become one of the more meaningful games of the season for both squads. It can play a massive role in who goes to the Big Ten Championship, something we all saw last year. Needing just a win against a Nebraska program still in disarray, the Cornhuskers took the fight to the Hawkeyes and came home with the victory. The Hawkeyes would be watching the Big Ten Championship from home.

It will be a new-look Nebraska squad looking to keep the Heroes Trophy in Lioncoln this year. Here is a look at the new Cornhuskers squad.

In 23 career games, he threw for 4,464 yards and 30 touchdowns while rushing for 1,152 yards and 11 touchdowns. Nebraska has only won the Davey O’Brien Award one time since the award’s inception in 1981.

Eric Crouch won the honor during the 2001 season. That season Crouch would run for 1,115 yards and 18 touchdowns while throwing for 1,510 yards and seven touchdowns with ten interceptions

Four Nebraska football players first to earn single-digit numbers

The 2023 Nebraska football season is three weeks away and the Huskers took another step closer to kickoff by handing it their first batch of single-digit numbers.

The 2023 Nebraska football season is three weeks away and the Huskers took another step closer to kickoff by handing it their first batch of single-digit numbers. Back in March, head coach Matt Rhule explained to the media his tradition of awarding single-digit numbers to the toughest players on the team.

“What we decided was, you know what, 1 through 9 and now 0 through 9 would go to the nine or now 10 toughest guys on the team. And when I say ‘toughest,’ we define that for the guys, but really, the guys who best exemplify what it means to be a Cornhusker, to be accountable, to be dependable, to be tough, hardworking, competitive every single day. And so, as we get into training camp … the players will vote on it, and we hope it kind of becomes our tradition.”

On Wednesday, he handed out four of those numbers, leaving six remaining for the upcoming season.
