Jaylen Hands sent to Pistons with Dzanan Musa in deal delivering Nets Landry Shamet, Bruce Brown

After spending all of 2019-20 with Brooklyn’s G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets, Jaylen Hands is on his way to Detroit.

The Brooklyn Nets made the Landry Shamet trade officially on Thursday, and it turns out the three-team trade that was agreed upon with the Los Angeles Clippers and Detroit Pistons was even bigger than initially expected.

The Dzanan Musa for Bruce Brown trade between the Nets and Pistons was also part of this deal. Along with the Saddiq Bey — the No. 19 pick in this year’s draft — Jaylen Hands is on his way to Detroit as part of the deal.

Brooklyn also gave the Pistons the draft rights to Jay Scrubb, the No. 55 pick in this year’s draft, as well as Toronto’s 2021 second-round pick.

In addition to Shamet, the Nets acquired the No. 57 pick in this year’s draft, Reggie Perry, from the Clippers.

The Clippers acquired forward Luke Kennard, center Justin Patton, Portland’s 2023 second round draft pick and Detroit’s second round draft picks in 2024, 2025 and 2026 in the deal.

Los Angeles also delivered Rodney McGruder and cash considerations to the Pistons.

Kevin Durant tapping into his creativity throughout rehab process

Kevin Durant has gotten in work against Kyrie Irving throughout his rehab, along with some members of the Long Island Nets.

Kevin Durant may not be in the Disney bubble with his Nets teammates, but that doesn’t mean Brooklyn’s superstar isn’t getting his work in.

With the 2020-21 NBA season being his target for his return, Durant has continued with his rehab process. He detailed what that’s entailed during his appearance on Elite Media Group’s RNC Radio:

I’m playing a lot of one-on-one lately, so what comes with that is your handle is a little better, You’re more quicker with your moves. You’re less indecisive with what you want to bring out. So I’m just crafting that, I guess that playground-style of ball even more, just working out by myself or with two or three guys.

That’s the cool part about it because it’s hard for you to get that type of play in the regular season because you’re going through the team aspect, you’re training with the team and you want to preserve your body for the season. So, if I’m playing 1-on-1 or 2-on-2s, it’s just going to help my creativity. That’s the timing thing that every injured player goes through. Just finding that rhythm again. So, hopefully, I gain it over time and once I get into real games it translates real fast.

Durant told RNC Radio some of the players he’s worked out with throughout include Kyrie Irving, Caris LeVert (before the bubble), Detroit’s Blake Griffin, former Knicks gurar Allonzo Trier and two members of the Long Island Nets, Jaylen Hands and Devin Cannady.

Durant also added his “IQ for the game” has sharpened from watching the game from a different vantage point:

Just watching it from a different perspective, I feel like my mind has grown a lot and how I wanna approach my craft and what I wanna do every single day as a teammate. So, I feel like my mind is stronger.

As moms around the globe are honored on Sunday on Mother’s Day, several athletes across all sports have taken a few moments to celebrate those special women in their lives.

The annual holiday serves as a chance for everyone to take a few moments and thank those that helped push them over the years and make them the person they are today — the real MVPs as Kevin Durant once famously said.

On Sunday, several NBA players — past, present and future — jumped on social media to thank those women that have meant so much to them over the years.

Jaylen Hands: Kyrie Irving ‘is a great teammate’

Jaylen Hands, who the Brooklyn Nets took late in the second round of the 2019 NBA Draft, has learned a lot from just watching Kyrie Irving.

Before Kyrie Irving joined Brooklyn, he seemed to have issues with some of the “young guys” he’d played with. Though since Irving has left Boston, his younger ex-teammates — Jayson Tatum, Terry Rozier (who also left Boston) and Jaylen Brown — have absolved the Nets guard of the Celtics’ dysfunction in 2018-19.

Of course, the Nets had their strange moments throughout the 2019-20 season. Irving was one of the individuals who drew attention to himself when he made comments about Brooklyn’s roster. But Irving Nets teammates stood by him.

Even Jaylen Hands, who was with the Long Island Nets, Brooklyn’s G League affiliate, after he was selected in the second round of the 2019 NBA Draft by the franchise, had nothing but good things to say about Irving when the 21-year-old guard was asked about the veteran on the Locked On UCLA Bruins podcast:

It was dope to just see him work. For me, I got to see him work every day. I got to see how serious he takes pick-up games. I go to see how serious he takes shooting by himself; how serious he takes the weight room. He is a great teammate, very uplifting. So, from him he was always [preaching] ‘keep getting better, adapt, keep working, pay attention, listen.’ And he is a great person.

Hands played in 40 of Long Island’s 41 games this season, starting 18 times. He averaged 11.3 points per game on 41.9% shooting (35.1% from deep) while playing 22.4 minutes a night.

Second-round pick Jaylen Hands is …

Second-round pick Jaylen Hands is playing well lately for G-League Long Island, but he isn’t Brooklyn-bound anytime soon. As an NBA rights player, the Nets would have to cut somebody (David Nwaba is out for the season), and give Hands a 10-day deal. With Caris LeVert having returned to practice, though ruled out against Minnesota, and Pinson looking better Saturday, they’ll stand pat.
