Boston’s Jaylen Brown is laser-focused on winning an NBA title

The Georgia native kept the emphasis on the next game coming, in which we should expect the Dallas Mavericks’ worst.

Star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown is so laser-focused on winning an NBA title, that he barely spent a moment reflecting on maybe the best defensive playoff game of his career after the Celtics’ Game 1 win.

Instead, the Georgia native kept the emphasis on the next game coming, in which we should expect the Dallas Mavericks’ worst in Game 2 of the 2024 NBA Finals set to go down on this coming Sunday (June 9) evening at TD Garden. “Every game has its own story,” he explained. “We have just got to stay ready, stay composed, and take it one game at a time.”

The hosts of the CLNS Media “How Bout Them Celtics!” podcast, Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance, reflected on Brown’s point of view on a recent episode. Check it out below!

The Celtics playmaking was the key to downing the Mavs

The Boston Celtics overcame the Dallas Mavericks in the opening game of the NBA Finals, primarily due to the playmaking of their star duo.

The Boston Celtics overcame the Dallas Mavericks to secure a Game 1 victory in the NBA Finals. Joe Mazzulla’s team consistently attacked the Mavericks’ defense as they looked to load up to the ball. Despite dealing with double teams in the halfcourt, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown found ways to make reads.

During his postgame news conference, Mazzulla praised the poise and decision-making of his star duo. He cited how their ability to punish double-teams and traps helped Boston control the game’s flow. As such, the Celtics could implement their style of offense and keep Dallas on the back foot.

“That’s what those guys do,” Mazzulla said. “They have the ability to draw two guys, and the most important thing is making the right play over and over again, doing what’s best for the team, reading the two-on-ones, and when they’re at their best, those guys are able to do that. I thought their decision-making helped control the game, especially when they went on that run, and we were able to get that back.”

Tatum and Brown have both flourished as ball-handlers and playmakers over the past two seasons. Tatum is now one of the best point-forwards in the NBA, while Brown has learned how to use his aggressive offense to draw a defense before making the right pass.

The Mavericks must now adjust their defensive scheme as they look to limit the impact Tatum and Brown can have when attacking an aggressive defense. Boston has too much spacing for double-teams to be an effective strategy. If Dallas sticks with sending two at the ball, they will struggle in Game 2 on Sunday (June 9).

The Celtics aren’t relying on one player to win the NBA championship

The Boston Celtics have elite offenisve talent within their roster. As such, they don’t need to rely on one or two players to get the job done.

The Boston Celtics boast arguably the deepest roster in the NBA. They have three-level scorers at every position, along with multiple high-level playmakers. And everyone in the playoff rotation can guard their yard. As such, the Celtics are an unpredictable opponent. On any given night, a different roster member can step up and have a game-defining performance.

In Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday (June 6), Kristaps Porzingis came up big. The veteran big man was returning from over a month on the sidelines with a right soleus strain. He checked in off the Celtics bench and produced a game-changing performance on both sides of the floor. During his postgame news conference, Porzingis’ performance led Jaylen Brown to praise Boston’s strength in depth.

“In any given night it could be any of us,” Brown said. “And Kristaps had a monster game for us and just his presence shooting the ball and then him being able to attack those switches and mismatches, he made them pay every time, and that’s what we need going forward in the series. Kristaps was big, but those other guys, Derrick White, Jrue Holiday, JT, they all can get going at any point in time, so that’s the beauty of our team.”

The Celtics likely hope their plethora of offensive options will continue producing in the coming weeks. Boston is just three wins away from being crowned as NBA Champions.

The Celtics added Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis during the summer. Brad Stevens likely envisioned Boston’s need for additional offense during the postseason. Now, those two moves are paying dividends. And they could help end the team’s 16-year championship drought.

Jaylen Brown absolutely posterized Daniel Gafford with this absurd 2024 NBA Finals dunk

Jaylen Brown put Daniel Gafford on a poster with this ridiculous 2024 NBA Finals dunk.

During Game 1 of the 2024 NBA Finals, Boston Celtics superstar Jaylen Brown put down the most unreal dunks you’re going to see any time soon.

As he drove the ball to the basket, Brown slammed down a ridiculous poster dunk on Dallas Mavericks forward Daniel Gafford to roars from the TD Garden crowd full of excited Celtics fans.

The replay angles are just absurd, as you can see the tenacity in Brown’s move to lay down the most resounding dunk possible over Gafford.

The Celtics had a tremendous start to this year’s NBA Finals, as this audacious dunk helped tell the story as well as any highlight could.

Former Celtics fan favorite believes Mavericks have the best duo

Isaiah Thomas believes that Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving are a better duo than Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

Isaiah Thomas believes the Dallas Mavericks have the better duo heading into the NBA Finals. The former Boston Celtics guard sees Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving as the more skilled tandem over Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Despite Boston’s star forwards being elite on both sides of the ball.

Thomas made the comments during a recent appearance on the “Bully Ball” podcast. He discussed the NBA Finals matchup and anointed Doncic and Irving as two of the best players to ever grace the league, regardless of generation or era. As such, Thomas likely sees the Mavericks as having a significant advantage heading into their series.

“Two of the best ever,” Thomas said. “Obviously, Jayson Tatum and those guys are really good. Jaylen Brown is really good. But Luka and Kyrie are something we haven’t seen. And I’m putting them two, like they got the best duo…They got the best duo, they just don’t got the best team.”

Tatum and Brown play both sides of the ball. They are not only elite scorers and playmakers but also defend at an elite level and can rebound with the best of them. That is why the Celtics are such a formidable opponent; you can’t exploit them on either side of the floor.

The Celtics will enter the Finals as heavy favorites to win a championship, regardless of what Thomas thinks. They have the better roster. They are better defensively and arguably have the best duo in the series. It won’t be easy, but the Celtics will be looking to finish a journey that started when Thomas was still suiting up for the team.

Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown need a banner for their Boston Celtics legacy

There may never be a clearer path to Banner 18!

Star forwards Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown need a banner for their Boston Celtics legacy. If Tatum and Brown want to join the lengthy list of Celtics legends, they will need to prove that they can bring a title back to Boston for the first time since the 2008 Ubuntu crew helmed by Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Ray Allen — all Hall of Famers.

And they need to do it now, given the onerous penalties the league put on teams like theirs in the new collective bargaining agreement (CBA) instituted by the league and the Players Association this year. There may never be a clearer path to Banner 18!

Andscape’s Marc Spears (himself a Hall of Famer on the broadcast side of things) recently joined the CLNS Media “Cedric Maxwell” podcast to give his takes on the Jays’ legacies. Check it out below!

Why has the national NBA media been disrespecting star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown?

The Georgia native has found himself on the wrong end of puzzling slights on more than one occasion over the years.

Why has the national NBA media been disrespecting star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown? The Georgia native has found himself on the wrong end of puzzling slights on more than one occasion over the years, and just as he had been having some of the best postseason play of his career, entertainers with “sources” took pot shots at Brown for no discernible reason.

In the latest episode of the CLNS Media “The Big 3 NBA” podcast, cohost Gary Washburn discusses the Jaylen Brown/Stephen A. Smith incident alluded to above, and discusses Brown’s overall relationship with the media throughout his NBA career.

Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what they had to say.

Bob Ryan reacts to Jaylen Brown winning the NBA’s 2024 Eastern Conference finals MVP

Who else would have had a chance at the league’s 2024 ECF MVP award?

Star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown was surprised to learn that he had won the NBA’s 2024 Eastern Conference finals Most Valuable Player award, but his teammates and fans were much less so given how he has been playing in the 2024 postseason to date.

But who else would have had a chance at the league’s 2024 ECF MVP award? Was Jayson Tatum the next-closest performance through the four games of the sweep? Did Jrue Holiday have a legitimate case to win the award, or even Derrick White? The hosts of the CLNS Media “Bob Ryan, Jeff Goodman, and Gary Tanguay!” podcast took some time to talk it over on a recent show.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear their thoughts.

Has Jaylen Brown emerged as the Boston Celtics’ leader?

Is Jaylen Brown the clear-cut leader of the Boston Celtics following Marcus Smart’s departure last summer?

Jaylen Brown has enjoyed a stellar season for the Boston Celtics. He’s emerged as one of the best slashing forwards in the NBA and has shown a fearsome mid-range game to counter how defenses look to limit his drives. Yet, the most impressive aspect of Brown’s growth has been his leadership, specifically how he leads by example.

When speaking to the media following the Celtics Game 4 win over the Indiana Pacers on Monday (May 27), Brown noted how he has attempted to step into the leadership void that was left behind when Marcus Smart was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies last summer.

On the latest episode of the “Celtics Chronicle“, the hosts discuss Brown’s leadership and whether he is the team’s clear-cut leader or whether he and Jayson Tatum are splitting the duties but approaching things in different ways.

How did Europeans take over the NBA?

Boston Celtics legends Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce discuss how European talent has taken over the NBA.

Currently, the best three players in the NBA are European. Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic and Giannis Antetokounmpo are unquestionably the three most talented players in the league. The Boston Celtics have two of the top-20 talents in Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. However, Boston may face Doncic in the NBA Finals.

In a recent episode of the “KG Certified” podcast, former Celtics champions Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce discuss how European talent has begun to dominate the NBA and why the three best players are from overseas. Garnett draws inspiration from Adam Sandler’s movie “Hustle” and points to it as proof that European talent is on an elite level.

If the Celtics are to face the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals, Garnett will likely be watching closely to see how Joe Mazzulla’s team attempts to contain Doncic and whether they can overcome facing such an elite offensive weapon.
