Boston’s Jaylen Brown lauds Celtics’ improved ability to close out games this season

“I think it’s a step forward that in those moments of adversity that we still have found ways to win,” Brown said.

As odd as it might sound, winning well and often can be its own worst enemy. Just ask star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown. “In the past, a lot of you guys remember some of those results and then losses,” said Brown via The Athletic’s Jared Weiss. Boston’s newfound ability to come out on top in games they would have lost in seasons past was not lost on the Georgia native after the Celtics’ close win over the Indiana Pacers at TD Garden.

“I think it’s a step forward that in those moments of adversity that we still have found ways to win,” Brown explained. “I guess everybody wants us to be perfect.”

“Over the course of 82 (regular season games), it’s tough to do,” observed the Celtics swingman.

“I think we’ve taken steps this year because I think a lot of those times, we’ve blown leads, and they ended up in losses,” he admitted.

And while there are certainly still moments where a sliver of doubt might creep into a fan’s mind in some games this season (and the Pacers tilt was one), the consensus seems to be that this team can beat perhaps any other team in the league when it focuses.

And it has been focused quite a bit this season.

How many Celtics will make the All-Star reserves team?

How many Boston Celtics players will be selected as All-Star reserves for the 2024 All-Star game?

The Boston Celtics have multiple players in contention for a potential spot on the All-Star reserves team. Jaylen Brown is the most likely candidate. Derrick White, Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis have also given themselves a chance following their strong seasons thus far. However, it’s likely that the Celtics will only get one more player selected due to the strength in depth of the Eastern Conference.

On the latest episode of the “Green With Envy” podcast, hosts Will Weir, Greg Maneikis and Adam Taylor discuss the potential All-Star reserve selections. Brown is the most deserving Celtics player out of the remaining group, as Jayson Tatum was already named as an All-Star starter.

The question then becomes whether a third Celtics player can earn a selection, which would be a sign of recognition for the talent on the roster and the selfless basketball the team has been playing throughout the season.

Jaylen Brown unveils new nickname for bromance with Kristaps Porzingis

The bromance between Jaylen Brown and Kristaps Porzingis may have just gotten a new nickname.

Winning a title in the NBA requires more than raw talent. Champions must learn to love and trust their teammates, and locker room chemistry is often a secret sauce for clubs that go the distance. So far for the 2023-24 Boston Celtics, the returns are have been good, with happy vibes helping power the team to success.

Team chemistry can be hard to define or identify, but you sort of know it when you see it. That’s certainly the case with Jaylen Brown and Kristaps Porzingis. Since joining the team this summer, Porzingis has grown closer to his new teammate, and they have both talked about how their shared mojo is important to Boston’s success.

Now thanks to a single tweet, this duo may have a new nickname.

Luka Doncic credits Jaylen Brown for viral crossover

Luka Doncic gave Jaylen Brown credit for his highlight crossover during the Boston Celtics win over the Dallas Mavericks.

During the Boston Celtics 119-110 win over the Dallas Mavericks on Monday (Jan. 22) Jaylen Brown went viral for a crossover on Luka Doncic. The move sent the MVP candidate to the floor as he lost his footing when trying to defend the move, allowing Brown to drive to the rim and get an easy finish.

Clips of the crossover have since gone viral across multiple social media channels over the last few days. Following the game, Doncic addressed the media, where he credited Brown for his display of strength and skill. Doncic also noted that the Celtics star’s move was ‘nice.’

“I can’t lie,” Dončić said. “That was really nice. I was on the floor praying he wouldn’t make it, but he made it. So it was a whole highlight.”

Brown has been emerging as a genuine offensive force this season. He has adapted to his new role of being a featured scorer and has found ways to lean into the additional gravity he carries to begin displaying a new level of playmaking production. Furthermore, Brown is also making his presence felt on the defensive end, locking down opposing wings and chipping in with multiple blocked shots.

The Celtics will likely quickly move on from their win over Dallas. The focus is on building toward being a championship team, and that means having a next-game-up mentality.

Still, Brown’s highlight will likely remain in circulation for the rest of the season, as it’s not every day one of the best players in the world suffers such a disastrous defensive possession.

Are Boston’s Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown the best duo in the NBA right now?

To say they are the best duo in the league is not at all a stretch.

Are Boston Celtics star swingmen Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown the best duo in the NBA right now? Versions of this question have been floating around for a while now as the All-NBA forwards have inched closer to being the league’s apex predators. Now, with the Celtics looking like the team to beat halfway through the 2023-24 season, the question carries a bit more heft than usual.

With both Brown and Tatum likely locks to make the 2024 All-Star team and fair bets to get back to being All-NBA as the engine’s behind the Association’s best record at the midpoint of the season, to say they are indeed the best duo in the league is not at all a stretch.

The hosts of the “Bleav in Boston” podcast Warren Shaw and Gary Washburn took some time to debate this question on a recent episode.

Jaylen Brown embarrasses Luka Doncic in Celtics win over Mavericks

You know a player is having a rough night if they ditch a headband they began the game wearing.

You know a player is having a rough night if they ditch a headband they began the game wearing. And if they have to change their sneakers at halftime, you can bet that something is in their head. In the case of Luka Doncic, the thing in his head in the Dallas Mavericks’ recent home loss to the Boston Celtics was Jaylen Brown.

The star Celtics forward was guarding the Slovenian sensation for much of the tilt with the Mavs, frustrating Doncic into one of his worst shooting nights in some time. And when it came time to return the favor, Brown broke his ankle, and helped him earn a technical foul by complaining about his travails trying to cover the Georgia native.

The hosts of the CLNS Media “How Bout Them Celtics!” podcast took a close look at the matchup and its aftermath.

Jaylen Brown outplayed Luka Doncic in the Boston Celtics win over the Dallas Mavericks

With four players scoring in double figures vs. Dallas, it was a great end for the Celtics’ Texas two-step.

For whatever reason, the usual late-game dread typically experienced by fans of the Boston Celtics when facing the Dallas Mavericks and Luka Doncic that Doncic might be able to steal a win from the Celtics never seemed to materialize. That star Celtics forward Jaylen Brown was simply terrorizing the Slovenian superstar on defense was no small part of the reason why.

The 39 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks put up by All-NBA swingman Jayson Tatum were also a big reason why this game felt in Boston’s control in their first tilt with the Mavs of the season.

With four players scoring in double figures vs. Dallas, it was a great end for the Celtics’ Texas two-step after beating the Houston Rockets on the road the night before.

NBC Sports Boston’s Chris Mannix, Brian Scalabrine and Drew Carter joined Amina Smith after the game to talk about the Boston win on “Celtics Postgame Live”. Check it out above!

Celtics win a tough one on the road vs. Rockets as Jaylen Brown triple-doubles

The Celtics put away the Rockets despite a strong second-half push from Houston and a poor shooting night from star forwards Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

The Boston Celtics started their road contest against the Houston Rockets on Sunday night looking like a ball club that did not want to be playing that night. But they managed to put away the Rockets despite a strong second-half push from Houston and a poor shooting night from star forwards Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

The front half of a back-to-back, Boston was without the services of veteran big man Al Horford for rest, and it also saw guard Jrue Holiday rest a sprained elbow. Still, Brown managed his first triple-double of the season, finding other ways to influence the game.

Kristaps Porzingis led all scorers with 32 points, and Derrick White snapped a streak of mediocre play with 21 points and a career-high dozen boards.

The hosts of the CLNS Media “How Bout Them Celtics!” podcast took a deep dive into the results of the 116-107 win over the Rockets postgame.

Kristaps Porzingis on Jaylen Brown’s triple-double vs. Houston: He doesn’t need to score 30 every night

“It speaks volumes for (Brown’s) leadership,” said Porzingis postgame.

On a night that saw him go just 6-of-14 from the field overall and 1-of-3 from beyond the arc, star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown still found ways to help his team win vs. the Houston Rockets Sunday night. In years past, a night like the one Brown had from the field in terms of efficiency might have sunk the Celtics. But the Georgia native leaned into other aspects of his game and got his first triple-double of the season.

“It speaks volumes for (Brown’s) leadership, too” said teammate Kristaps Porzingis postgame to NBC Sports Boston via Heavy’s Matt John.

“He understands he doesn’t need to score 30 every night,” added the Latvian big man.

“And he can have this kind of night where maybe he’s not making all the shots but just making those passes, making those reads for our teammates, and that (to) us as a group, that’s a chain reaction,” explained Porzingis.

Concerns yet remain about both Brown and fellow All-NBA forward Jayson Tatum’s late-game shot selection and pace.

But to know that they can find ways to impact the game when their shot abandons them is an important part of what Boston will need in their toolkit if they truly hope to compete for a title this postseason.
