Aggressive play from Jaylen Brown is a big deal for the Boston Celtics

Brown has shown no signs whatever of slowing down as the 2024 NBA postseason approaches.

Fans of the Boston Celtics have been noticing for a month now what the national media is just starting to catch wind of — star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown has been playing out of his mind since the NBA’s 2024 All-Star break. Better yet, Brown has shown no signs whatever of slowing down as the 2024 NBA postseason approaches.

The Cal alum has been lighting up the league with his elite athleticism, his shooting and scoring leveling up to an elite plane of play. And it is that aggression in particular that has fueled his excellence on the court for the Celtics since the end of the month of February.

To take a closer look at this phenomenon, the hosts of the CLNS Media “How Bout Them Celtics!” podcast did a deep dive on the topic on a recent episode.

Will Jaylen Brown make an All-NBA team again this season?

Since the 2024 NBA All-Star break, star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown has been on an absolute tear.

Since the 2024 NBA All-Star break, star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown has been on an absolute tear, playing like one of the league’s best players on both ends of the court. Will Brown make an All-NBA team again this season? The Georgia native has since scored 20 points or more in nine straight games for the Celtics since his performance in the All-Star week festivities’ Slam Dunk Contest. CLNS Media’s Bobby Manning, Josue Pavon, A. Sherrod Blakely and John Zannis recently debated if Brown is on track to make an All-NBA team again this season on an episode of the “Garden Report” podcast. Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what they had to say. Is the Celtics’ depth their biggest strength?

The Boston Celtics have one of the deepest rosters in the NBA, but is that their primary strength?

The Boston Celtics are widely viewed as the deepest team in the NBA. Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Kristaps Porzingis are the biggest star names on the roster. Jrue Holiday, Derrick White and Al Horford are the ideal connectors around the star trio. As such, Boston has a six-man rotation that wouldn’t look out of place at an All-Star game.

Furthermore, Payton Pritchard and Sam Hauser are both legitimate NBA talents. They could get minutes on almost every team in the league. During a recent appearance on the “Green With Envy” podcast, The Boston Globe’s Khari Thompson discussed Boston’s deep roster, noting that it’s one of the biggest advantages available to Joe Mazzulla.

Of course, that depth is only useful if the Celtics can steer clear of injuries to their core players. As a result, the coaching staff have been cautious with their approach to minutes distribution and load management.

The Celtics will likely finish the regular-season as the first seed in the East. However, their goal has always been making it back to the NBA Finals and hoisting the Larry O’Brien trophy. To do that, they will need to remain healthy. However, their depth will ensure they have a solid chance of achieving their lofty goal.

Boston’s Jaylen Brown has been scorching hot since the NBA’s 2024 All-Star Break

At times, Brown has been the best player on the Celtics’ roster since getting back from Indianapolis.

Whatever you do, do not try playing mind games with the shooting abilities of star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown. Just ask Golden State Warriors veteran big man Draymond Green just how good the Georgia native has been since coming out of the NBA’s 2024 All-Star break.

At times, Brown has been the best player on the Celtics’ roster since getting back from Indianapolis, but also playing within the flow of what the game needs on both ends of the court. It is almost as if the Cal alum is looking to make a statement of the value he adds on the court (and how much he makes to do it, a point of contention in the past among some fans).

NBC Sports Boston’s Chris Forsberg broke down how well Brown has been playing over the course of the last few weeks on a recent installment of his “Forsberg’s Four” segment.

Jaylen Brown on Celtics’ unexpected loss to Cleveland Cavaliers: ‘Today matters’

“It’s the league, the NBA, anything can happen,” said Brown.

“Today matters,” said star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown via CLNS Media after his team’s surprising 105-104 road loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on this past Tuesday night. “Whether everybody wants to throw it away or not, we’ve got to look at the film and address some stuff, because that matters.”

The Celtics put up a 22-point lead, only to see poor defense and focus in the game’s final frame lead to one of the worst (and only) collapses this season, to the Cavs’ obvious benefit. “Any given night, you can lose,” explained Brown. “Tonight, obviously in this fashion, Wade scores 20 in the fourth and … everything goes their way.”

“We haven’t really seen a team storm back like that,” said the Georgia native of the loss that broke their league-leading 11-game winning streak.

“But, you know, it happens,” said Brown. “It’s the league, the NBA, anything can happen.”

If you want to dare me to shoot, we can do that! – Boston’s Jaylen Brown

Brown may think that the Golden State Warriors were not giving him the respect he is due as a force in today’s NBA, but he also did not seem to mind too much

Star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown may think that the Golden State Warriors were not giving him the respect he is due as a force in today’s NBA, but he also did not seem to mind too much in the wake of it happening. After the Dubs elected to sag off the Georgia native in Boston’s 140-88 beatdown of the Warriors, Brown shared his mind on the decision by Golden State.

“That’s the first time that’s ever happened to me,” he said to the media postgame. Honestly, I was a bit surprised; it took a little bit of adjusting.” And adjust Brown did, hitting 5 3-pointers in the game’s first frame, putting up 19 points in the quarter and power Boston to a historic halftime lead.

The folks behind ESPN’s “NBA on ESPN” channel put Brown’s comments on their official YouTube channel after the win.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear what he had to say.

Celtics’ Jaylen Brown named Eastern Conference Player of the Week after historic Dubs beatdown

Scoring 19 points in just one quarter on your way to power a historic beatdown of one of the hottest teams in the NBA can really get you noticed.

Scoring 19 points in just one quarter on your way to power a historic beatdown of one of the hottest teams in the NBA can really get you noticed, it seems. Star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown has been named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week after a blistering offensive performance against the Golden State Warriors on Sunday afternoon.

Brown, who would ultimately put up a game-high 29 points in the historic beatdown, earned his fourth-ever such honor with the nod, and his first since March of last season. His counterpart for the Western Conference Player of the Week is LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers.

Other East players getting votes included the Orlando Magic’s Paolo Banchero, the Miami Heat’s Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler, the Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo, Philadelphia 76ers Tyrese Maxey, Cleveland Cavaliers’ Evan Mobley, and fellow star Celtics forward Jayson Tatum.

Jaylen Brown on Warriors choice to sag off him early in Sunday’s 140-88 blowout: ‘A little disrespectful’

We think the Dubs might like a mulligan on this one.

If you were surprised by the Golden State Warriors’ decision to sag off star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown early in their 140-88 blowout loss to Boston, to be perfectly honest — so was he. “That’s the first time that’s ever happened to me,”said Brown postgame. “Honestly, I was a bit surprised; it took a little bit of adjusting.”

“I think we just took advantage of whatever that attempt was,” he added. “For the most part, my job is to get to the paint. We’ve got enough 3-point shooters on the team,” Brown explained, almost seeming to validate the Dubs strange decision on his coverage.

“If you want to dare me to shoot, we can do that, too,” said the Celtics forward.

“I thought it was a little disrespectful, but we took advantage of it, and we didn’t look back,” he shared, and they most certainly did not.

As a result of a game plan put together, as Draymond Green related (via CLNS Media) after the loss, “15 minutes before we left the locker room,” the Celtics would have their largest-ever halftime lead, and would finish the tilt with their third-largest margin of victory in the storied franchise’s history.

We think the Dubs might like a mulligan on this one.

NBA Twitter reacts to Warriors’ blowout loss vs. Celtics, 140-88

Here’s what fans and analysts were saying on Twitter after the Warriors’ 52-point blowout loss to the Celtics on Sunday.

Sometimes the final scoreboard doesn’t always reflect just how close a game is. Sunday’s contest between the Golden State Warriors and Boston Celtics wasn’t one of those games. The final score spoke volumes.

After winning the first three games of their road swing and eight consecutive road games, the Warriors had no answer for the Celtics on Sunday afternoon.

Following a flurry of haymakers by the way of Jaylen Brown 3-pointers in the first quarter, the Celtics took control and never looked back. Brown notched a game-high 29 points on 11-of-19 shooting with five made 3-pointers on the way to Boston’s ridiculous 140-88 win over Golden State on Sunday.

Lester Quinones led the Warriors with 17 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the field with five rebounds in 33 minutes off the bench on Sunday. Moses Moody was the only member of Golden State’s starting unit to score in double-figures with 11 points.

Steph Curry tallied only four points on 2-of-13 shooting from the field with zero made 3-pointers on nine attempts from beyond the arc in 17 minutes in the first half. With the Warriors trailing by 44 points at halftime, Curry did not play in the second half.

Following Golden State’s 52-point loss in Boston, the NBA community on Twitter exploded with reactions. Here’s a look at what fans and analysts were saying about the game on social media on Sunday.

Joe Mazzulla ‘grateful’ for Golden State’s defensive strategy against Jaylen Brown

The Golden State Warriors took an interesting approach to guarding Jaylen Brown Sunday afternoon. Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla loved it.

Sunday afternoon the Boston Celtics routed the visiting Golden State Warriors in a historic 140-88 victory. Boston’s offense was locked and loaded from the jump, putting the Warriors in a big deficit early on. This, in part, was aided by a very specific defensive approach from Golden State.

In the first quarter the Warriors sagged off of Jaylen Brown, giving the All-NBA forward plenty of space to operate on offense. Golden State head coach Steve Kerr said afterward his team wanted to try to close off driving lanes and lock down the paint. This strategy left little defensive pressure on Jaylen Brown, who took 12 field goals in the opening frame, and finished the first with 19 points on 5-for-9 shooting from deep. Following the game, Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla was asked if he noticed the unique defensive scheme.

“Yeah,” Mazzulla said plainly. “We were really grateful for that.”
