DeMar DeRozan shows love to Javonte Green after Bulls win over Knicks

After Javonte Green’s monster game in the Chicago Bulls’ win over the New York Knicks, DeMar DeRozan gave him a bunch of credit.

As the Chicago Bulls look to end the season on a high note and maintain their place as the ninth seed in the Eastern Conference heading into the Play-In Tournament, they earned a huge win over the New York Knicks on Friday night. They took down Jalen Brunson, who has been one of the best point guards in the league this year, largely thanks to Javonte Green.

Green, who the Bulls originally signed to a 10-day not long ago before converting his contract to a standard deal, played a giant role in the win over New York. He led the Bulls in scoring on the night.

“The energy, the enthusiastic style of play he brings, the person he is off the court — he’s one of those guys you want to have on your team,” DeRozan said. “It’s been a tough year for him just trying to get healthy. For him to come out and be doing what he’s been doing since he came back, it’s amazing.”

Green ended the night with 25 points and 13 boards.

Javonte Green breaks down highlight play in Bulls win over Knicks

After the Chicago Bulls’ win over the New York Knicks, Javonte Green spoke about his highlight-reel dunk.

The back-and-forth Chicago Bulls lived up to their name once again on Friday night. They took down the New York Knicks following a tough loss to the Atlanta Hawks, who they are fighting with for Play-In seeding. Their win over the Knicks was much-needed, and some unlikely heroes stepped up for Chicago.

Ayo Dosunmu put up 24 points and Andre Drummond had 10 points and 16 rebounds, but it was Javonte Green who stole the show against New York. The Bulls brought him on board on a 10-day contract, but he was recently converted to a standard deal. He threw down a monster jam in the second quarter.

After the game, Green spoke about the moment, as well as the fact that Drummond got fined for his celebration. (H/t ESPN)

“It was a great feeling,” Green said. “I’m not gonna help Andre pay the fine. Andre’s a pro. I feel like that’s my game, though. Just bring excitement to the game and just play as hard as I can and just try to win each game for the team.”

Green finished the game with a team-high 25 points to go along with 13 rebounds, one assist, two steals, and one block while shooting 10-of-14 from the field and 1-of-3 from behind the three-point line.

On how the Javonte Green effect is real for the Chicago Bulls

Green showed us he still has plenty of juice left in the tank.

Fans of the Chicago Bulls who know ball were understandably excited about Javonte Green’s return to the Bulls on a 10-day deal. And even more so when Chicago’s front officer elected to sign him to a rest-of-season contract to complete the reunion and make the Radford alum playoff eligible.

And while it was reasonable to keep our expectations low for the recuperating wing given he just came back from surgery on a knee injury that kept him sidelined for nearly a full year, Green showed us he still has plenty of juice left in the tank on the court almost from the moment of his return.

Has his recent play mostly been a product of Green wanting to show he can still help his former team? Or can we expect more great games from him on the regular?

To the folks behind the folks behind the “Bulls Central” YouTube channel, the phenomena we are all witnessing is something they dub the “Javonte Green” effect. Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear why.

On the Chicago Bulls bringing back Javonte Green

Green is playoff eligible for the Bulls’ play-in tournament push and, if they win, beyond.

In his first return to the team since completing a rehabilitation from surgery to fix a knee injury sustained at the end of the Chicago Bulls‘ 2022-23 season, veteran wing Javonte Green played a total of three games with the Bulls this season.

Chicago’s front office must have liked what they saw in the Radford alum’s play, with Green getting signed for the rest of the NBA regular season, with the Bulls cutting Terry Taylor to free up a roster spot for Green with Chicago. This makes Green playoff eligible for the Bulls’ play-in tournament push and, if they win, beyond.

Speaking on a recent episode, the hosts of the “CHGO Bulls” podcast took a deep dive into the decision to bring back the veteran swingman, and what he adds to Chicago’s roster that was worth cutting loose a promising young prospect.

Chicago Bulls re-sign Javonte Green for rest of the 2023-24 season, cut Terry Taylor

The Chicago Bulls have made some moves to shake up their roster a bit as they head into the NBA’s 2024 postseason.

The Chicago Bulls have made some moves to shake up their roster a bit as they head into the NBA’s 2024 postseason. The Bulls have signed veteran Chicago wing Javonte Green to an end-of-season deal ahead of the Bulls’ play-in tournament tilts, according to recent reporting from NBC Sports Chicago’s KC Johnson.

Per Johnson, the transaction makes Green playoff eligible — and given the Radford alum has a proven track record in the playoffs vs. Terry, who has not shown much with Chicago — the move makes sense for the Bulls’ postseason aspirations. “Green is a fan and organizational favorite who is just getting fully healthy after undergoing knee surgery last season while with the Bulls,” writes Johnson.

“He played 10 games in the G League with the Golden State Warriors affiliate before signing his 10-day contract with the Bulls.”

In that 10-day deal, Green put up an average of 5 points and 3.7 rebounds over the three games he played with the Bulls this season.

Billy Donovan shows love to Javonte Green after Bulls win over Pacers

After the Chicago Bulls’ win over the Indiana Pacers, head coach Billy Donovan showed love to Javonte Green.

The Chicago Bulls’ Wednesday night win over the Indiana Pacers was about the defense. The Bulls became the first team to hold the Pacers under 100 points all season, as Tyrese Haliburton has led Indiana to an incredible offensive season. But Chicago locked in and shut them down, earning a blowout win by a score of 125-99.

However, the subplot of the game was the return of Javonte Green. The Bulls inked Green to a 10-day contract after he spent most of this season in the G League with the Santa Cruz Warriors. Now, he’s back with the Bulls after spending two-and-a-half seasons with the team.

He played real minutes for the Bulls against the Pacers, and after the game, head coach Billy Donovan shouted him out. (H/t Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times)

“I’m happy for him because to go through what he went through with the knee injury and having to go to the G League, that was probably pretty humbling, especially for his time here [when] he performed so well,” Donovan said. “He moved into the starting lineup, he was a guy who really complemented the starters. And then for him to go down like he did and almost start over again, for me personally with the journey he has had to go through I’m really happy for him.”

Green played 19:19 against the Pacers, giving the Bulls some solid minutes off the bench.

Is Bulls win over Pacers a result of the ‘Javonte Green effect’?

Is the “Javonte Green effect” a real thing for the Chicago Bulls?

For the past three seasons, the Chicago Bulls have been one of the most painfully average teams in the NBA. They are stuck in the middle of the pack every season, but despite that, the front office has kept the same core together. DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine, and Nikola Vucevic have won just one playoff game together.

However, their blowout win over the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday night could be indicative of “the Javonte Green effect.” Since the Bulls traded for Green in 2021, they are 133-133, but with Green in the lineup, they are a slightly better 59-55. When Green is on the court, good things happen.

After the win over Indiana, the Chicago Bulls Central YouTube channel discussed whether or not “the Javonte Green effect” is a real thing.

Green recently rejoined the Bulls on a 10-day contract, and against the Pacers, he played his first real minutes since getting back.
