Former Auburn WR Ja’Varrius Johnson has announced his transfer destination

Former Auburn WR Ja’Varrius Johnson will transfer to UCF

This offseason, the relentless pursuit of Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko in the transfer portal has been a focal point. His aim? is to land a seasoned wide receiver, a move that could significantly bolster the depth chart for the 2024 season

Despite his best efforts and several attempts, players like KeAndre Lambert-Smith and Sam Brown opted for different destinations.

However, former Auburn wide receiver Ja’Varrius Johnson was still on the market, and the Aggies were reportedly interested after setting up a visit in early May. Well, as we all know, things can change in an instant. Last week’s news that former Iowa WR Jacob Bostick will transfer to Texas A&M impacted both sides, as it was reported that Johnson would not visit the Aggies anymore going forward.

On Tuesday, it was revealed that Johnson will now transfer to UCF, joining former Arkansas quarterback KJ Jefferson in an offense poised to consistently put a lot of points on the board in 2024.

During his Tigers career, Johnson recorded 64 receptions, 1,114 receiving yards, and three touchdowns. He possessed the speed and route-running finesse to make any quarterback’s life just a little bit easier.

Report: Former Auburn WR will not visit Texas A&M going forward

Former Auburn WR Ja’Varrius Johnson will not visit Texas A&M moving forward

On Wednesday morning, it was announced that former Iowa redshirt freshman wide receiver Jacob Bostick will transfer to Texas A&M after one season with the Hawkeyes. The Illinois native possesses the length and catch radius to develop in new Aggie OC Collin Klein’s offense next season.

Despite the good news, Bostick’s commitment fills another open spot, leading to the news that former Auburn WR Ja’Varrius Johnson, who visited College Station last Friday, will not visit the Aggies going forward, according to Jaxson Callaway, professionally known as AggiesToday.

While the reasons for his choice are still unknown, Bostick’s announcement could have impacted his future decision, as A&M’s current wide receiver rotation with his inclusion looks complete on paper. However, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that head coach Mike Elko and his staff will still be in the market for one of the remaining receiving options before the fall.

So far this offseason, Texas A&M has lost several wide receiver portal battles, most recently, the decision of former Houston WR Sam Brown to transfer to Miami, but in the age of NIL, none of this is a surprise.

Report: Former Auburn WR Ja’Varrius Johnson will visit Texas A&M next month

Texas A&M will reportedly host former Auburn WR Ja’Varrius Johnson on Friday, May 3

Credit to Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko, as the program is clearly headed in the right direction under his leadership this offseason. Most notably, Elko’s utilization of the spring transfer portal has led to several commitments this month, including former Pitt linebacker Solomon DeShields.

Needing to add another wide receiver after the Maroon & White spring game showed that depth issues persist in the rotation; former Penn State WR KeAndre Lambert-Smith, who was a finalist to land with the Aggies, is now headed to Auburn.

Exciting news is on the horizon: Elko has reportedly arranged a visit next week with former Auburn WR Ja’Varrius Johnson. Johnson recorded 64 receptions, 1,114 receiving yards, and three touchdowns during his Tigers career. Johnson could be a game-changer for the Aggies.

With former Houston wide receiver Sam Brown already visiting College Station on Tuesday, Elko will need to land one of the two remaining options to feel safe going into fall camp. WR Jabre Barber continues to recover from his recent surgery to repair an injury sustained this spring.
