Seahawks down Rams in overtime to remain in playoff hunt … for now

The Seahawks eliminated the Lions and now need Detroit to win

The Seattle Seahawks’ confusing day continues.

They defeated the Los Angeles Rams, 19-16, on Sunday. The Seahawks’ victory eliminated the Detroit Lions from the NFC Wild-Card race.

That’s where the confusion comes into play.

After Seattle ended Detroit’s hopes for a postseason berth, it needs the Lions to defeat the Packers in Game 272 of the regular season.

If the Lions defeat the Packers, the final NFC Wild-Card spot would go to the Seahawks.

Got that?

The Seahawks-Rams game had a bewildering finish as Myers doinked a field goal off the upright to send the game into overtime.

Seattle’s Quandre Diggs picked off Baker Mayfield in overtime and the Seahawks drove 50 yards in 8 plays before Myers redeemed himself from 32 yards.

The Seahawks have seemingly shaken off the funk of their losing streak and have brought their A-game against the Jets today.

That gave Seattle good field possession, but the drive stalled in the red zone. Jason Myers made the field goal, his 23rd straight successful attempt.

The Seahawks lead the Jets 10-0.

4 Seahawks voted to Pro Bowl Games roster, 6 named as alternates

The NFL has announced that four Seattle Seahawks players have been voted onto the 2023 Pro Bowl Games roster and six named as alternates.

The Seattle Seahawks chances of making the playoffs this season might be dwindling, but that didn’t stop four players from making the 2023 Pro Bowl Games roster. In addition, six members of Seattle’s squad were also named as alternates.

The 2023 Pro Bowl Games will showcase the AFC vs. NFC in competitions featuring Flag football and Pro Bowl Skills. The games will air from Las Vegas on Sunday, Feb. 5 at 12:00 p.m. PT on ABC and ESPN.

All Duds and no Studs in Seahawks 21-13 loss to 49ers

or the second time in the Pete Carroll era, the Seattle Seahawks have dropped three consecutive games at home after losing to the 49ers.

For the second time in the Pete Carroll era, the Seattle Seahawks have dropped three consecutive games at home. On Thursday night the San Francisco 49ers completed the season sweep of the Seahawks for the first time since 2011 with a 21-13 decision.

To add insult to injury, the 49ers clinched the NFC West Championship with their victory. It is San Francisco’s first division crown since 2019, which was also claimed at Lumen Field. The 49ers have now won the NFC West in Seattle more times in the last four years than the Seahawks have. Ouch.

Seattle’s offense could do little against perhaps the best defense in the NFL and floundered all night long. The defense played admirably given the circumstances but had two disastrous lapses in coverage to give San Francisco instant touchdowns. Given how the offense was playing, it was all the Niners needed.

The Seahawks fall to 7-7 and are as cold as the mid-December air. A quick shoutout to kicker Jason Myers whose 51-yard field goal tied Stephen Hauschka for most games (6) with successful 50+ yard kicks in franchise history. Aside from Mr. Myers, it’s a Duds-heavy list this week

3 Studs and 3 Duds in Seahawks 19-9 win over Arizona Cardinals

Here are the three studs and three duds from the Seattle Seahawks 19-9 win over the Arizona Cardinals Week 6 at Lumen Field.

Show of hands, who saw this one coming? The Seattle Seahawks have improved to 3-3 after outlasting the Arizona Cardinals in a 19-9 defensive struggle in Week 6.

Given how porous Seattle’s defense has been, and how dominant the Cardinals typically are at Lumen Field, it was easy to predict the game being another shootout for the Seahawks. It couldn’t have been further from reality. The Seahawks defense completely shut down the Cardinals, holding Kyler Murray and Co. to a lone field goal. Seattle sacked the elusive Heisman winner six times and forced two turnovers out of him.

The Seahawks offense wasn’t as high-octane but did more than enough to earn a much-needed win. Rookie running back Kenneth Walker (more on him shortly) paved the way and was a major reason Seattle is back in a tie for first place in the NFC West.

Seahawks lead Cardinals 9-3: 1st half highlights and analysis

Between the Seahawks game and the Mariners game, which ended 1-0 after 18 innings, offense has been hard to come by in Seattle this weekend.

For a third consecutive week, the Seattle Seahawks are leading at halftime although this game is far less explosive than last week’s against the Saints. The Seahawks and Cardinals have combined for four total field goals, as Seattle leads 9-3 in a surprising defensive slugfest.

Between the Seahawks game and the Mariners game on Saturday night, which ended 1-0 after 18 innings of play, offense has been hard to come by in Seattle this weekend.

Seattle’s opening drive ultimately ended in a field goal, but it was an excellent debut for rookie running back Kenneth Walker in his first start as a professional. Walker accounted for 51 of Seattle’s 54 total yards, including this 34-yard scamper after a crucial 3rd down picked up by the rookie as well.

The Seahawks’ defense has played poorly over the last few weeks, but they certainly showed up in the first half against an offensively talented Cardinals squad. So far, the Seahawks have recorded three sacks, including one from safety Ryan Neal.

No Jamal Adams? No problem.

Of course, the story of the season for Seattle has been the (re)emergence of quarterback Geno Smith. Playing at the highest level he has as a professional, Smith has wowed the 12th Man and is continuing to do so against Arizona. This time, with his legs.

Geno Smith’s 24-yard scramble set the Seahawks up nicely on a drive that ultimately resulted in yet another field goal to extend the lead before halftime.

The Seahawks will receive the ball to start the second half. Arizona has been a resurgent team after intermission, so Seattle will have to find a way to finish these drives in the endzone.

Improvement needed after Seahawks drop 2nd preseason game 27-11

The Seattle Seahawks have plenty of work to do to get ready for their preseason finale after dropping Thursday’s game to the Chicago Bears.

Even by already-low preseason standards, the Seattle Seahawks played a very uninspiring game of football. On Thursday night in front of the 12th Man for the first time this summer, the Seahawks fell to the visiting Chicago Bears 27-11 in their second preseason game.

Right from the get-go, the Seahawks were sloppy for most of the night and it cost them dearly. Some late-game magic with a botched Bears punt return and recovered onside kick weren’t able to overcome Seattle’s slow start.

In fairness to the Seahawks, they did play last Saturday night in Pittsburgh with a quick turnaround to a Thursday. The exceptionally short week of practice and lack of key starters playing meaningful time would make it difficult for any team to play a competent game.

Regardless, there is more than enough room for improvement for the Seahawks before their preseason finale next Friday in Dallas.

Seahawks: 8 important x-factor players to watch during the 2022 season

The departures of Russell Wilson, Bobby Wagner and Duane Brown account for a serious reset in leadership – if not a total rebuild.

The Seahawks made some radical changes to the top of their roster this offseason. The departures of Russell Wilson, Bobby Wagner and Duane Brown account for a serious reset in leadership – if not a total rebuild. New captains will have to be chosen on both offense and defense this year, but it will take more than just a couple of guys stepping up in the intangibles department. Replacing the experience that this team lost will require a group effort by several key personnel pieces in Seattle.

Here are eight of the most important x-factor players on the roster to watch.
