One of the biggest questions outside of who Scott Woodward would eventually hire had to do with legacy quarterback Walker Howard. The five-star quarterback had taken visits to Notre Dame and Ole Miss in recent weeks. With the uncertainty surrounding the coaching carousel, who could really blame him.
Upon hearing the news of Brian Kelly’s hire at LSU, Howard was elated with the news. The coach that he met with in South Bend is coming to the school that coached his father, Jamie. The younger Howard believes that there will be championships coming to the Bayou.
“He’s going to bring us to national championships,” five-star quarterback commit Walker Howard told The Daily Advertiser. “I can tell you that for sure.”
It was the perfect storm for the nation’s No. 4 ranked quarterback in the 2022 class. He is also No. 31 overall according to 247Sports composite rankings. Howard stated that Kelly was the kind of coach that the elder Howard wanted for his son.
“The kind of guy he was, that’s the kind of person my dad wanted me to be around,” Howard said. “Coach Kelly, he’s the best in the country, he’s the most winning coach (in Notre Dame history).”
With Howard seemingly staying at LSU, that bodes well for the 2022 class. There is time remaining for them to finish with a top 10 class in theory. Having a five-star quarterback committed will help the other positions and something to watch in the coming weeks.
