MLB fans were in awe after James Outman became the first lefty to hit a HR over the Orioles’ silly LF wall

That wall is so dumb.

When the Baltimore Orioles decided to change the left-field wall for Oriole Park at Camden Yards last season, it was one of the odder decisions we’ve seen for stadium configurations. In a game that was increasingly trending towards more home runs, the Orioles wanted to make homers harder to come by.

The move to push back the wall by nearly 30 feet and make it five feet taller brought upon an eyesore that fans started calling “Walltimore.”

The wall worked as expected with 57 balls remaining in play last season that would have been home runs in 2021. But most of all, it became nearly impossible for left-handed batters to hit home runs to left field.

That changed on Wednesday.

During the fourth inning of the game between the Dodgers and Orioles, James Outman became the first lefty to hit an opposite-field homer over the new wall. It took 1.5 seasons to get to that point. Out of 297 balls hit 350-plus feet by left-handed batters to left field at Oriole Park, Outman’s was the first to leave the yard.

No wonder MLB fans were impressed. It also went to show just how ridiculous that wall really is at Camden Yards.

¡Bienvenido al show, James Outman!

HOMERUN.¡ BIENVENIDO AL SHOW, @james_outman!

Dodgers’ James Outman homered in his first MLB at-bat and his family’s reaction was so sweet

This is a moment James Outman and his family will remember forever!

Welcome to The Show, James Outman!

With the Los Angeles Dodgers visiting the Colorado Rockies on Sunday, the NL West leaders were looking to bounce back from a loss the day before. With one man on and no outs, Outman strode out to the plate for his first ever appearance in a MLB game after being called up from the minors over the weekend.

And on just his third pitch faced at the MLB level, Outman smashed a home run deep to right field to put the Dodgers up 2-0. On his first at-bat of the majors, no less! Not only that, Outman’s family was in attendance for the game and they went absolutely wild!

Talk about a special moment to remember for Outman and his family. Not many MLB players hit a home run in their first at-bats — according to Baseball Almanac, 130 players are now part of that club — so what an incredible achievement for Outman!
