Cardinals have contacted small-school pass rusher recently

James Madison pass rusher Ron’Dell Carter had 12 sacks and 27 tackles for loss in 2019.

The Arizona Cardinals have garnered a reputation of targeting players from small schools and getting some production from them. As they prepare for the NFL draft this week, they have their eye on at least one small-school prospect.

According to Draft Wire’s Justin Melo, the Cardinals have had a virtual meeting recently with pass rusher Ron’Dell Carter out of James Madison.

Carter was dominant in 2019, piling up 12 sacks and 27 tackles for loss. That was after a 2018 season with 7.5 sacks and 13 tackles for loss.

He is 6-3 and 269 pounds. He started out his collegiate career at Rutgers before transferring to James Madison. He piled up the awards last season.

He was a consensus first-team All-American. He was the FCS Defensive Player of the Year.

He is considered a late Day 3 prospect or could be a target as an undrafted free agent.
