The last quarterback to throw 30 interceptions in a season also played for the Bucs

Bucs quarterback Jameis Winston has 28 interceptions on the year, but wouldn’t be the first Bucs QB to throw 30 interceptions in a year.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers saw their winning-streak end at four yesterday with their 23-20 loss to the Houston Texans.

What fans also saw was the end of the Bucs’ offensive dominance. Without top playmakers in wide receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, quarterback Jameis Winston, who was battling a thumb injury, threw four interceptions, including another pick-six.

Winston has now thrown 31 touchdowns and 28 interceptions on the season to go along with 4,908 yards. It’s been a crazy statistical year for the former number one pick, but, he can breath a sigh of relief knowing that the Buccaneers plan on bringing him back in 2020. Winston was playing this season on the fifth and final year of his rookie contract.

With just one game left in the regular season, Winston is now on pace to throw for 30 interceptions, which would make him the first quarterback since 1988 to accomplish that feat.

The quarterback who last did it? Vinny Testaverde for the Buccaneers with 35.

Unlike, Winston, however, Testaverde threw for only 13 touchdowns that year. Winston has 31 on the year heading into Week 17, where he could become the first quarterback ever to throw for 30 touchdowns, 30 interceptions and 5,000 yards in the same season.

You can’t say he isn’t fun to watch. Just ask Bill Simmons.

Great defensive effort by Bucs squandered by another Winston pick

Despite great field position, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were again let down by quarterback Jameis Winston.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are slated to bring quarterback Jameis Winston back in 2020 in some capacity. But, after seeing how he’s played in the first half of today’s game against the Houston Texans, they may want to rethink that decision.

Winston has already thrown three interceptions, bringing his league-leading total to 27 now. He threw one on the opening drive for a pick-six, only to throw an interception on the next drive, too.

His third pick of the day squandered a terrific effort by the Bucs’ defense, who had forced a Houston fumble before Bucs rookie linebacker Devin White scooped it up and took it back to the Houston 31. But, the team couldn’t capitalize on the great field position as Winston threw a pick on the very first play.

Surprisingly, Tampa Bay still only found themselves down 10-3 at that point. But, all those points by Houston can be attributed to the miscues of Tampa Bay’s quarterback — one the team will be bringing back again next year.

Twitter goes crazy over Jameis Winston’s two interceptions

See what fans on Twitter had to say about Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston’s two early interceptions against the Houston Texans.

Is this really happening?

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston once again was picked off on his first pass attempt of a game, this time doing it against the Houston Texans in their Week 16 matchup.

Winston was picked off by Texans cornerback Bradley Roby, who took it back 27 yards for the score. If that wasn’t enough to anger Bucs fans, Winston threw a pick on Tampa Bay’s next drive, bringing his league-leading total up to 26. The Texans are up 10-0 already, all courtesy of points off of Winston turnovers. I guess Vernon Hargreaves was right to shade Winston.

Suffice it to say, Twitter did not hold back either in their criticism of Winston.

Jameis Winston throws another pick-six and fans are losing it

Fans went wild on Twitter after Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston threw another pick-six.

This is getting old. Jameis Winston, who was intercepted by Colts linebacker Darius Leonard on his first pass attempt of the game today, was picked off again by Leonard in the second quarter, only this time, Leonard decided to do the scoring himself, taking it 80 yards for the touchdown.

That’s 14 points off Winston picks the Colts have gotten today, and, not surprisingly, Indy went up 24-14 over Tampa Bay before Winston connected with tight end Cameron Brate for a three-yard score right before halftime. Indy would get a field goal in the closing seconds to take a 27-21 lead into the half.

The interception was Winston’s 22nd of the season, and his miscues are getting out of control.

Fans let him know about it on social media. Take a look.
