Will Bengals fumble problem 31 other teams would love to have?

The Bengals can’t possibly mess this up, right? Right?

The Cincinnati Bengals have a top-five quarterback and two No. 1 wideouts who want to stay with the team long-term.

Talk about a problem 31 other teams would love to have at any point in time.

Surely, this is a layup at the rim, right? A chipshot field goal from close range? Joe Burrow wants the Bengals to keep Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins on extensions.

Chase wants to be back. And Higgins does too—that much we can discern from his parting ways with agent David Mulugheta and hiring the same reps as Chase.

The Bengals don’t even have to negotiate with different agencies now.

That doesn’t mean the Bengals will get a discount. This isn’t an extend one, get the other one half-off sort of thing. But Higgins going away from Mulugheta, who would only get him a top-of-market deal outside the Bengals, says it all.

The timing of Burrow putting pressure on the front office and Chase putting pressure on the front office isn’t an accident.

On paper, there’s no issue here. The Bengals are projected to have nearly $60 million in free cap space next offseason before any tough cuts conversations like Sheldon Rankins and Sam Hubbard, among others. And oftentimes, extensions can actually lower cap hits.

It’s not like other non-Trey Hendrickson names have earned big extensions because the team has drafted and coached so poorly. It’s not like Jessie Bates stayed (as he should have) and ate a big chunk of cap. There’s…not really anybody else left to pay, anyway.

Again, on paper, pay the Big 3, get at least a new defensive coaching staff in the building, draft well, add a few free agents to the mix, and field a league-average defense. That Big 3 should do the rest.

Of course, the Bengals will still have to leave their comfort zone when it comes to contract structure and guarantees while giving out fair market price to top stars.

But a (99 percent likely) playoff miss during a Burrow MVP year—just before lease negotiations get serious—should have a way of encouraging the front office to do whatever it takes.

The players involved have apparently already met the Bengals halfway on this. Now, it’s up to the team to do the rest. And if not…

Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins contract sagas with Bengals just took a turn

What the Bengals stars want couldn’t be more obvious.

At this point, the writing on the wall for the Cincinnati Bengals is pretty hard to miss.

The ball’s in the team’s court when it comes to keeping Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.

Joe Burrow wants it. And so, too, do Chase and Higgins, clearly.

Higgins just parted ways with agent David Mulugheta. And now, just a day later, Kelsey Conway of the Cincinnati Enquirer reported that Higgins’ new reps is Rocky Arceneaux of Alliance Sports Management.

Caitlin Aoki and Arceneaux rep Chase.

It doesn’t get much more obvious than this. Out goes Mulugheta, an agent the Bengals have a terrible history with, most recently through Jessie Bates. In are heavyweight reps the team has worked with in the past and will when it comes to Chase already next offseason.

The situation won’t do the Bengals any favors financially, not after the team gave itself a self-inflicted wound by not extending Chase last summer. But it should make the logistics a little easier — and both guys clearly want what the franchise quarterback wants.

All the Bengals have to do is provide the cash, with the proper structure, and all is well. What the players want — and what fans want — couldn’t be clearer.

Ja’Marr Chase just applied pressure on Bengals about Tee Higgins, too

The stars seem to be aligning for Burrow, Chase and Higgins.

Feel free to add Ja’Marr Chase to the list of players now publicly applying pressure on the Cincinnati Bengals about Tee Higgins.

Naturally, Chase was asked about the topic during his weekly presser and kept the same vibe as Joe Burrow before him.

“Tee deserves to be here. He wants to be here,” Chase said, according to Fox 19’s Jeremy Rauch. “It’s all about how they want to play it.”

Chase saying this publicly is a big deal, as it follows up on Burrow’s first message to the front officeand the second.

Also, considering he’s going to seek a market-resetting extension this offseason, too, Chase’s prior descriptions of this being like “chess” for the Bengals front office are apt.

Meanwhile, Higgins has parted ways with his agent and picked up the same agent as Chase.

The Bengals can and will have the cap space to keep both wideouts this offseason, especially with some careful structuring. With the pressure applied and the state of the roster otherwise, it might just be the play.

Ja’Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson lead NFL receivers through Week 13

Two former LSU stars sit atop the NFL’s receiving leaderboard

Two former Tigers continue to set the standard at the receiver position in the NFL.

[autotag]Ja’Marr Chase[/autotag] and [autotag]Justin Jefferson[/autotag] rank No. 1 and 2, respectively, in receiving yards this year.

The top threat on the Cincinnati Bengals, Chase has 1,319 receiving yards, while Jefferson leads the Vikings with 1,170 receiving yards.

Chase’s success is due in part to his connection with a former Tiger. Heisman-winning quarterback [autotag]Joe Burrow[/autotag] and Chase are the only duo in NFL history to connect for over 14 touchdowns in both a collegiate and NFL season. They accounted for 20 in 2019, the Tigers’ national championship season, and 14 this year.

Burrow ranks first in three NFL categories — passing yards (3,706), passing touchdowns (33), and yards per game (285.1). Chase also leads the league in three categories — receiving yards, receiving touchdowns (15) and catches (93). The Bengals aren’t living up to expectations this year, but Burrow and Chase aren’t to blame.

Jefferson’s feat may be just as impressive considering the star power on the Minnesota Vikings’ roster in both the pass and run game.

Despite seeing constant double-teams, Jefferson averages 90 yards per game. As the Vikings look to contend for the top spot in the NFC, Jefferson will almost certainly see an uptick in targets.

Through three seasons in Baton Rouge, Jefferson totaled 165 receptions for 2,415 yards and 24 touchdowns. In the national championship season, the St. Rose, LA native hauled in 111 catches for 1,540 yards and 18 touchdowns. He averaged 102.7 yards per game, catching passes from Burrow.

Bengals slammed for wasting ‘all-time greats’ right now

One talking head said the Bengals are like watching the NBA with the way they’re wasting Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase.

The Cincinnati Bengals are easy to bash right now.

They are, after all, the team wasting an MVP-like season from Joe Burrow and a Triple Crown effort from Ja’Marr Chase, plus a stunning season from Trey Hendrickson.

At 5-8, and the playoffs extremely unrealistic, everyone seems to be hopping on the criticism train right now, including Colin Cowherd, on a recent episode of his podcast.

“These are all-time greats but they are stuck in a shaky organization that frankly has suboptimal ownership and a front office,” Cowherd said. “They don’t take any risks.”

This would, at least to some degree, partially explain why Burrow has seemingly put very public pressure on the Bengals front office to get a deal with Tee Higgins done.

Given the season so far, only big changes to the coaching staff and roster, if not how the team does business, will quiet some of these criticisms this offseason.

Ravens DC Zach Orr compares Giants WR Malik Nabers to another former LSU star

Ravens DC Zach Orr compares Giants WR Malik Nabers to another former LSU star in Ja’Marr Chase

The Ravens face the Bengals twice yearly, so they’re knowledgeable about elite wide receiver play.   Heading into Sunday’s game against the Giants, rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers offers a similar skill set that Baltimore is familiar with.

Just days before matching up with the former LSU wide receiver, Ravens defensive coordinator Zach Orr compared Nabers to the league’s leading pass catcher, Ja’Marr Chase.

Selected sixth in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, Nabers leads the Giants with 80 catches, 819 yards, and three touchdown receptions. Nabers’ 80 catches place him third on the Giants’ rookie list. Odell Beckham (2014) and Saquon Barkley (2018) share the record with 91 receptions.

Chase had a record-setting rookie season in 2021. He started all 17 games and caught 81 passes for 1,455 yards and 13 touchdowns, which set the Bengals rookie record and was fourth in the NFL. He also had five 100-yard games, tied for second most in Bengals history.

Chase’s 368 postseason receiving yards broke the rookie record previously held by Torry Holt in 1999. He also helped the Bengals advance to Super Bowl LVI, their first appearance since 1988.

Chase was named Offensive Rookie of the Year by the Associated Press and the PFWA and Rookie of the Year by the Sporting News. He was also named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team.

Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase could make history in 2024

The former college teammates could set NFL history as Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase continue their memorable 2024 seasons.

It’s amazing to look back at the LSU Tigers having both Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase on the same team, but they did. In 2024, Chase leads the NFL with 1,319 yards, while Jefferson is in second with 1,170 yards.

If this stays the course and the two of them finish first and second, it would be the first time in NFL history that the leading two receivers went to the same college.

The Bengals are having a down year with all the excitement of Joe Burrow, Chase, and Tee Higgins. But even at 5-8 on the season, Chase has performed as well as anyone while he is searching for a big contract—whether that comes from Cincinnati or not is a different story.

The Vikings, on the other hand, are on fire. Sitting at 11-2 on the season, Minnesota is battling with the Lions to win the NFC North and get a first-round bye in the playoffs.

Bengals need to do Ja’Marr Chase contract right now, says NFL insider

Want to keep Joe Burrow happy? One insider says right now is the time to extend Ja’Marr Chase.

The Cincinnati Bengals are notorious for not talking or doing contract extensions during a season.

One NFL insider says it’s time to throw out that behavior and get wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase extended right now.

Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer made the case ahead of Week 15: “So I’ll repeat what I’ve said all season. Forget your precedents, Bengals. Go to Chase this week, and get him signed. He’s your second player. And happy quarterback … happy life.”

Doing so would make a lot of sense, should both sides be willing to come to the table and get it done.

That didn’t happen this past offseason when all involved seemed to wait on Justin Jefferson’s contract. After that happened, a deal never materialized, the issues bled into the season, and a report said Chase felt misled. Reports said the deal was very close, but the Bengals didn’t structure things the right way.

On the one hand, Chase wanted an extension arguably a year early. On the other, he deserves it, and his price has only dramatically increased because the market keeps climbing alongside the salary cap, and he’s in the Triple Crown hunt, with his agent even publicly celebrating how easy the extension will be.

Now is an interesting time to bring up this point about an in-season extension. The Bengals are 5-8 and the season is lost, barring some miracle in leaguewide results over the next few weeks. Extending Chase now would send a message to the locker room and fans about the upcoming offseason.

And it’s especially interesting considering Joe Burrow himself just put a ton of public pressure on the front office to keep Tee Higgins, too.

Signing Chase now, then Higgins in the offseason, would certainly be one way to keep the quarterback and fans happy.

Steelers K Chris Boswell should win 2024 fantasy football MVP award

Chris Boswell’s historic 2024 season is shaking up fantasy football, outscoring top TEs and propelling many fantasy teams to the playoffs

Sorry, WR Ja’Marr Chase, while your fantasy football points scored are impressive, one kicker has turned many fantasy football leagues upside down.

Steelers K Chris Boswell, AKA the ‘Wizard of Boz,’ is not only putting together a historic NFL season with 36 field goals made through 13 games played, but his fantasy football points are also off the charts!

ESPN compiled a list of which players belong to the most fantasy football playoff teams in 2024, and Boswell ranks 24th, above huge fantasy football names like WR CeeDee Lamb, WR Puka Nacua, WR A.J. Brown, QB Jayden Daniels, and TE Travis Kelce.

One of the most surprisingly true statistics in all of fantasy football is that Boswell is currently beating out all TEs for points scored in standard and half-PPR Sleeper fantasy football leagues.

No one can deny Boswell’s elite kicking prowess on gameday, but no one could have predicted the impact he would have on the world of fantasy football in 2024.

Ja’Marr Chase smashed Simpsons donuts in Joe Burrow’s face after Bengals’ wild win

What did the donut say to the face? SMASH.

The Bengals-Cowboys Simpsons broadcast was an adventure, and there’s no better way to celebrate that kind of game than with donuts straight to the face.

Yep. Ja’Marr Chase pushed Simpsons-themed donuts into Joe Burrow’s face, and it was glorious. Here’s why donuts were sacrificed.

The Bengals got a sorely needed victory after the Cowboys whiffed on a blocked punt (much to Micah Parsons’ dismay) that ultimately led to a Cincinnati game-winning touchdown. After the game, Ja’Marr caught Joe when he wasn’t looking, and BOOM. Pink glaze and sprinkles right to the face. But Joe was a good sport about it and even got Ja’Marr back with a retaliatory donut smash before he called him an NSFW name.
