Bills’ Sean McDermott on CB JaMarcus Ingram: ‘Real proud of him’

#Bills’ Sean McDermott on CB JaMarcus Ingram: ‘Real proud of him’

It’s not uncommon for Bills head coach Sean McDermott to throw his support behind a depth player on Buffalo’s roster.

It’s also not uncommon for it to be a member of the team’s defensive backs group.

On Saturday against the Pittsburgh Steelers, he liked what he saw in how hard CB Ja’Marcus Ingram played, and spoke about it to the press afterward.

“He practices the same way,” McDermott said. “His teammates love him, they respect him for the way he works and all of the work he puts in physically, all of the work he puts in on the mental part of the game. I’m just real proud of him.”

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Ingram signed with Buffalo as an undrafted rookie in 2022 after playing in college as a walk-on at Utah State, as a transfer at Texas Tech, and then finishing with the University at Buffalo as a Bison.

He’s played in five games over the last two seasons and has been on and off the Bills practice squad, released and re-signed at times, and endured finding himself in a position to now be the team’s fourth cornerback behind starters Rasul Douglas and Christian Benford, and Kaiir Elam.

Bills defensive coordinator Bobby Babich views him as an example of the Bills approach to player development.

“Ja’Marcus, his development is really, to me, one of the cool things that when you coach, you’ve got different tiers of players. But here’s a guy that I believe came to try out at camp,” Babich said. “Came in at like 170 pounds, as tall as he is, and put in so much work and grinded and worked while he waited, and those types of things.

“And it’s just really cool to see a guy like Ja’Marcus really growing and developing in a way that you see clear dividends from the hard work he’s put in.”
As for the corner, he too pointed to some of the work he’s put in and the results it has produced after focusing this offseason on his press footwork, agility ladders, and pedaling.

“Just really all the base fundamentals,” Ingram said per The Buffalo News, “and that puts you in position to make plays.”

He also set out to work on writing a children’s book called “The Little Player That Could” that will be out around Thanksgiving of this year.

“It’s based on my story,” Ingram shared. “I want to teach kids or inspire kids to have perseverance and resiliency in life and whatever dream that they’re chasing.

“But the story happens to just be about me and what I kind of went through my career to get to the point where I’m at. But I want people – well, kids – to be able to be inspired by my story, to just persevere through anything and whatever it is that they want to do in life.”

“I felt like that was something that that I could leave for my son,” Ingram said. “He just turned 1, so I’m reading him books and stuff like that. I feel like that was something that I could leave behind for him, but also be able to inspire others with the platform that I have and something that could, like, leave my work, long after I’m gone.”

Bills at Eagles: Andy Isabella, Ja’Marcus Ingram elevated from practice squad

Isabella, Ingram to play, no Fournette yet for the #Bills:

The Buffalo Bills have elevated wide receiver Andy Isabella and cornerback Ja’Marcus Ingram up from their practice squad ahead of the team’s Week 12 matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The two callups appear to be directly related to the team’s final injury report ahead of the game.

Cornerback Dane Jackson (head) and safety Taylor Rapp (neck) were both ruled out. Isabella and Ingram can provide depth on special teams for both players.

In addition, as a defensive back with both players that are ruled out being members of the secondary, Ingram will provide depth there.

A further note: running back Leonard Fournette was not called up. He signed with the team on Oct. 30 and has yet to featured in a contest.

In Joe Brady’s first game in Week 11 against the New York Jets as offensive coordinator, Ty Johnson played his largest role of the season on offense. Johnson played 16 snaps after his previous high for the year was one snap in two different games. Brady could prefer Johnson over Fournette for now.

Bills add Baylon Spector to 53-man roster, elevate Ja’Marcus Ingram

#Bills add Baylon Spector to 53-man roster, elevate Ja’Marcus Ingram:

The Buffalo Bills have made two players eligible to play in their upcoming Week 6 contest against the New York Giants.

Linebacker Baylon Spector (hamstring) was added to the team’s 53-man roster. Earlier this week, he was designated to return from injured reserve and now is back on the team’s roster.

The Bills (3-2) had a roster space open after placing linebacker Matt Milano (leg) and defensive tackle DaQuan Jones (pectoral) on injured reserve. Upon doing so, the team only signed AJ Klein to the 53-man roster and left one spot open which is now filled by Spector.

Ingram is potentially a more interesting addition.

The former UDFA can now play against the Giants after being called up from the practice squad. The team did the same with him last week and he ended up replacing former first-round pick Kaiir Elam at cornerback late in the 25-20 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

It remains to be seen if Elam get another start or is even inactive on game day again. This week cornerback Dane Jackson (foot) was on Buffalo’s injury report and is listed as questionable to play. Ingram being elevated might be sign Jackson will be out.

The Bills and Giants (1-4) will faceoff on Sunday Night Football.

Bills Wire Preseason Week 3 Player of the Game: Siran Neal

#Bills Wire Preseason Week 3 Player of the Game: Siran Neal (via @TejasVemparala):

The Buffalo Bills’ last preseason game was on the road against the Chicago Bears. The Bears won 24-21 in a close game and a few Bills players had a very good game.

We are awarding our third issue of the Player of the Week Award in 2023 to cornerback Siran Neal, who had two tackles, two pass deflections, and helped teammate Ja’Marcus Ingram secure Buffalo’s only interception of the game.

The Bills special team veteran was drafted by Buffalo in 2018 in the 5th round and is listed fourth on the depth chart at CB. Usually, Neal appears on special teams but Bills fans will remember his catch against the Patriots on a fake punt in December 2020.

Today, Neal was tasked with multiple snaps against the Bears first string wide receiver Darnell Mooney on the right side of the field. He prevented Bears QB Justin Fields on finding Mooney in the end zone at the end of the first quarter. He deflected another pass intended for Mooney in the end-zone from backup Chicago QB Tyson Bagent, limiting the Bears to a field goal attempt when down 7-0.

Neal would continue to frustrate Bagent and the Chicago offense when he crucially disrupted the timing of Bears wide receiver Daurice Fountain in Chicago’s sole interception of the game. When the Bills fumbled the ball after conceding a rushing touchdown to Bagent and were down 14-10 with the Bears looking to take the lead, Neal physically disrupted Fountain’s crossing route, which provided Ingram the opportunity to jump the route and intercept Bagent. This helped the Bills go into the locker room with a 7 point lead.

Neal’s physicality and man-marking skills in coverage was clearly evident and we hope he will get more snaps for the defense in the regular season and continue to make an impact in special teams.

Buffalo will be on the road at MetLife Stadium for their first regular season game against the New York Jets.
