Jamal Crawford’s return was stolen by injury and NBA fans everywhere were upset

Get well soon, Jamal.

We lost Jamal Crawford just as quickly as we got him back in the NBA.

The 40-year old guard made his debut for the 2019-20 season on Tuesday with the Brooklyn Nets in their game against the Milwaukee Bucks.

It was a treat to finally see him playing basketball again. It put an end to all of confusion as to why he hadn’t played a single minute up until this point.

Dropping 50 points in a single NBA game is not an easy feat. It’s something we rarely see, even in today’s game where it’s all offense all the time. That’s why it was a moment when Jamal Crawford dropped 51 points in the Suns’ final game of last season. And it wasn’t like it was 51 points on 50 shots — it was good! All this at 39 years old.

Sure, he’s 40 now. But, clearly, he had more to give. Tuesday was his chance to prove he could still play and he proved it — at least for a few minutes.

He made his 2019-20 season debut with the Nets on Tuesday and was immediately impactful.

For his first bucket, he drained this three.

And dished off this slick pass.

Oh, and this one too.

Within his first five minutes of play, he scored 3 points and dished out three assists.

Unfortunately, as impactful as his debut was, it was also just as short. Khris Middleton stepped on Crawford’s foot and apparently injured his hamstring, sending him to the locker room after just a few minutes.

The Nets eventually ruled him out for the game and, after just getting Crawford back on the court, we had already lost him.

Fans were so upset. Not just because he’s injured, but because this might actually be the last we see of him.

After two decades in the game, this would be the worst possible way to go out. Hopefully, it’s not too bad and this isn’t the end of Jamal Crawford’s NBA career.

Either way, it was good to see Crawford back hooping again. Even if it was just for a few minutes.

Jamal Crawford departs against Bucks early due to injury

Jamal Crawford made an impact when he took the floor for the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday, but had to leave the game very quickly due to injury.

Jamal Crawford finally made his Brooklyn Nets debut on Tuesday against the Milwaukee Bucks. Unfortunately for the veteran guard, his day ended almost as quickly as it started.

As he entered the game at the 4:35 mark in the first quarter, Crawford set a franchise record for oldest Nets player to ever appear in a game. At 40 years and 137 days, the veteran guard surpassed Cliff Robinson (40 yrs, 121 days on April 16, 2007, against the New York Knicks).

Crawford checked into the game late in the fourth quarter and gave Brooklyn an instant boost. In just five minutes of action, he logged three assists and scored five points on 2 of 4 shooting (1-for-2 from 3-point territory).

But after only five minutes of action, Crawford had to leave the game early.

Soon after the veteran guard’s departure, Crawford was ruled out for the remainder of the contest by the Nets due to a left hamstring injury.

Jamal Crawford cleared to make Nets debut vs. Bucks

Brooklyn Nets fans won’t get to see Caris LeVert, Joe Harris or Jarrett Allen on Tuesday, but they can finally get a look at Jamal Crawford.

The time has finally come. Jamal Crawford is ready to go.

It’s been well over a year since the veteran played in an NBA game. Although he’s been with the Nets since the early stages of the Disney bubble, Crawford has yet to see any game action, sitting out Brooklyn’s three scrimmages and first two seeding games — with “conditioning” being the reason he didn’t play against the Orlando Magic or Washington Wizards.

But the team announced on Tuesday at of their 1:30 p.m. game against the Milwaukee Bucks that Crawford is available for Jacque Vaughn.

The Nets will still be without Caris LeVert (left thigh contusion), Joe Harris (right hamstring and lower back tightness and Jarrett Allen (rest) in their game against the top-seeded team in the Eastern Conference.

Caris LeVert, Joe Harris and Jarrett Allen all out vs. Bucks

The Nets won’t have their three best players on the Disney roster available for Tuesday’s game against Giannis Antetokounmpo and company.

Jacque Vaughn will have to get creative on Tuesday.

First off, the Brooklyn Nets head coach has to plan for Giannis Antetokounmpo, which isn’t an easy task for anyone — Khris Middleton isn’t exactly a slouch either.

Second, Vaughn will not to have his three best scorers at his disposal on Tuesday.

Now, that’s not a reference to Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Spencer Dinwiddie. Nets fans know full well they won’t see any of those three until the 2020-21 season.

Rather, Brooklyn will be without Caris LeVert, Joe Harris and Jarrett Allen against the Bucks. Harris is dealing with back tightness and LeVert has a thigh contusion, per Brian Lewis of the New York Post. Allen is sitting out so he can rest up, with Brooklyn set to follow up Tuesday’s game with a matchup against the Boston Celtics on Monday, per Michael Grady of YES Network.

Vaughn did not provide reporters with an update on Jamal Crawford during his Zoom call on Monday, per Alex Schiffer of The Athletic. The veteran guard has not played in a game for the Nets yet.

How Jamal Crawford impacted Nets’ play from sideline vs. Wizards

Jamal Crawford didn’t play one second against the Washington Wizards, but he still found a way to help his Brooklyn Nets teammates Sunday.

Jamal Crawford still has yet to make his Brooklyn Nets debut. The forward was ruled out against both the Orlando Magic and the Washington Wizards due to conditioning — yet he still had left his imprint on Brooklyn’s important win on Sunday.

On top of his abilities on the floor, the acquisition of Crawford provided the Nets with a veteran presence inside the bubble, which is crucial given Brooklyn lost multiple veterans players ahead of the NBA’s restart.

On Sunday, Crawford proved exactly what he can do with his veteran voice alone.

Caris LeVert told reporters on a Zoom call after Sunday’s win that Crawford encouraged his teammates from the sideline throughout their battle with the Wizards, keeping them focused, per Brian Lewis of the New York Post:

Jamal was preaching it all game. He said, ‘This proves we can take a punch.’ They were beating up on us, especially at the start of the game, even in the 3rd quarter, 4th quarter, we were down. We took a punch, we overcame adversity, and we won.

Now the Nets just need the veteran guard ready for game action so they can take another step forward as the battle for their standing in the Eastern Conference ahead of the 2020 NBA Playoffs.

Nets rule Jamal Crawford out against Wizards

Brooklyn fans will have to wait a little longer for Jamal Crawford’s Nets debut.

Sunday will not be remembered as Jamal Crawford’s Brooklyn Nets debut. The guard has been ruled out ahead of his team’s matchup against the Washington Wizards on Sunday.

As was the case against the Orlando Magic on Friday, Crawford was ruled out against the Wizards due to conditioning. (The 40-year-old guard has not played in an NBA game since April of 2019.)

Crawford is the only member of the Nets who is unavailable against the Wizards. He has not been available for any of the Nets’ games in the Disney bubble yet, including their three scrimmages leading into seeding play.

On another personnel note, Nets head coach Jacque Vaughn told reporters on a Zoom call before Sunday’s game that Lance Thomas will remain in Brooklyn’s starting lineup on Sunday and Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot will come off the bench — even though the latter scored 24 points against the Magic on Friday — per Alex Schiffer of The Athletic.

Brooklyn and Washington tip-off at 2 p.m on Sunday.

Report: Jamal Crawford questionable for Nets’ game against Wizards

Jamal Crawford could make his Brooklyn Nets debut Sunday against the Washington Wizards.

Jamal Crawford is adored by hoops enthusiasts, and when he signed with the Brooklyn Nets ahead of the Orlando restart, he excited fans who enjoy watching his read-and-react, instinctual style of play.

Crawford hasn’t played for the Nets yet, as he’s still working on his conditioning. But on Sunday, Nets fans may have a chance to watch him.

According to the Nets’ Twitter account, Crawford is questionable for Brooklyn’s game against the Washington Wizards. Crawford did not play in the Nets’ game Friday against the Orlando Magic; he also did not play in any of Brooklyn’s three scrimmages.

Crawford hasn’t played in an NBA game since April 9, 2019, when he dropped 51 points for the Phoenix Suns against the Dallas Mavericks.

As a three-time Sixth Man of the Year, Crawford basically has the NBA 2K microwave badge in real life. He has used his scoring skills to be a valuable player on NBA benches throughout his career. Crawford has scored 14.6 points per game, dished 3.4 assists and shot 41.0% from the field during his career.

The Nets’ game against the Wizards could be an intense one. The Nets dropped to the eighth seed after losing to Orlando, and the Wizards are six games behind Brooklyn. The Wizards need to be four or fewer games behind the eighth seed to force a play-in tournament.

Jamal Crawford out vs. Magic

Jamal Crawford will not make his Brooklyn Nets debut on Friday against the Orlando Magic.

The Brooklyn Nets will have to make things work on Friday without veteran guard Jamal Crawford. The Disney bubble substitute player has been ruled out against the Orlando Magic, with “conditioning” being the listed reason for his unavailability.

Rodions Kurucs, who was listed as probable on Thursday due to a left hip contusion that he suffered in Brooklyn’s last scrimmage, will be available for Jacque Vaughn and company.

Additionally, prior to the Nets’ 2:30 p.m. tip-off against the Magic, Vaughn told reporters on a Zoom call Donta Hall will be able to make his Nets debut on Friday, per Alex Schiffer of The Athletic.

Hall had not been listed on Brooklyn’s status report prior to Friday’s game, but like Crawford, he did not appear in any of the Nets’ three scrimmages leading up to the restart.

Friday’s game will also be Lance Thomas and Tyler Johnson’s first regular season game in a Brooklyn uniform.

Jamal Crawford questionable, Rodions Kurucs probable vs. Magic

Brooklyn Nets guard Jamal Crawford is listed as questionable and Rodions Kurucs is probable for the opener with the Orlando Magic.

Brooklyn gets back to work on Friday with their first seeding game against the Orlando Magic starting at 2:30 p.m.

The matchup isn’t just Brooklyn’s first game that counts toward their 2019-20 standing in the Eastern Conference. It’s also a chance for Jamal Crawford and Donta Hall to play in their first game as members of the Nets.

Crawford and Hall are the only two players who didn’t appear in one of Brooklyn’s three Disney bubble scrimmages. Hall will be able to make his first appearance on Friday, given he wasn’t on the Nets’ injury report, which the team released on Thursday.

However, Crawford was one of two players listed on the team’s injury report. He is listed as doubtful, with “conditioning” being the listed reason.

Rodions Kurucs was also on the teams’ injury report. He’s probable with a left hip contusion, which he suffered in Brooklyn’s final scrimmage. [lawrence-related id=12100,12108,12096]

Jamal Crawford to sit out Nets’ final Disney bubble scrimmage

Jamal Crawford won’t play in a game for the Brooklyn Nets until it counts.

Jamal Crawford’s Brooklyn Nets debut will not be made on Monday against the Utah Jazz.

Nets head coach Jacque Vaughn ruled the veteran guard out for Brooklyn’s final Disney bubble scrimmage on a Zoom call with reporters on Sunday, per Kristian Winfield of the New York Daily News.

Crawford has not appeared in an NBA game since April 9 of the 2018-19 season when he was a member of the Phoenix Suns.

After Monday’s scrimmage against the Jazz, Brooklyn won’t play again until Friday at 2:30 p.m. — their first seeding game, which will be against the Orlando Magic.

In addition to Crawford, Donta Hall will not be available for the Nets on Monday, per Winfield.

Hall did not have his first workout with the team until July 24, the day before Brooklyn’s 124-119 win over the San Antonio Spurs.

The Nets tipoff against the Jazz at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
