Kevin Durant ‘would love to have’ Jamal Crawford back in Brooklyn

It looks like Jamal Crawford may still have a home in Brooklyn if he wants to play one more NBA season.

Although Brooklyn Nets fans were able to enjoy a fun eight-game run during seeding play, with their team upsetting both the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Clippers, they and all other NBA fans were robbed of the chance to watch 40-year-old Jamal Crawford go back to work after not having played since April of 2019.

While Crawford made his return to the court, he only logged six minutes of action, suffering a hamstring injury that sidelined him for the remainder of the bubble after the guard made what turned out to be his lone appearance.

Among those who were looking forward to watching Crawford get back to work was Brookyln’s star forward, Kevin Durant.

And Durant hopes this isn’t the last we’re seen of Crawford.

“I don’t even know if Jamal wanna play again,” Durant said during his appearance on The Joe Budden Podcast, “I would love to have him on the team, but I don’t know.”

When the Nets hired Steve Nash as head coach, Marc Spears of The Undefeated reported the Nets are expected to re-sign Crawford.

Jamal Crawford captivated by Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray’s play

Like everyone else who isn’t in the bubble, Brooklyn Nets guard Jamal Crawford is watching the intense 2020 NBA Playoffs.

[jwplayer kBav5MVx]

An all-Los Angeles 2020 Western Conference Finals seemed like a foregone conclusion. Even after the COVID-19 pandemic took home-court advantage away from both teams, each has a roster loaded with talent.

The Lakers made quick work of the Houston Rockets in their Western Conference Semifinals matchup, winning in five games.

The Clippers — who lost to the Brooklyn Nets during seeding play — not so much. They had a chance to advance to the Western Conference Finals in Game 5 win, yet they were seen battling for their postseason lives in Game 7 on Tuesday — and to no avail, losing 104-89.

Jamal Murray was the driving force behind so much of the Nuggets’ success in both the first and second round of the playoffs, but Nikola Jokic had himself some big nights, as well — including his triple-double performance (16 points, 22 rebounds and 13 assists) in Game 7.

Although the big man ripped down over 20 boards, Jokic wowed the masses with his passing above all else.

Among those Jokic impressed was Nets guard Jamal Crawford, who took to Twitter to praise the Nuggets big man mid-game:

It’s official. Joker is one of my favorite players to watch.

Then, when Murray hit his crazy 3-pointer with just over two minutes left in the game, he was as stunned as anyone.

Murray’s dagger in his 40-point performance led to a powerful, though accurate, declaration from Crawford:

Jamal Murray is a star.

Jamal Crawford questions Donald Trump supporters following release of Woodward book excerpts

Jamal Crawford responded on Twitter to the news from Bob Woodward’s upcoming book about President Donald Trump.

Bob Woodward, one half of the very Woodward and Bernstein pair that famously reported heavily on the Watergate Scandal, has written another book about Donald Trump’s presidency. Titled “Rage,” it is a sequel to his 2018 book, “Fear: Trump in the White House.”

Excerpts from “Rage” were released on Wednesday, some of which indicated President Trump was informed in early February about the problem COVID-19 had created in China and the seriousness of the outbreak, per CNN.

Among those frustrated with this development is Jamal Crawford, who took to Twitter to share his thoughts on Wednesday:

And this is the man some trust?!?!?! You’ve got to be kidding me. So many lives were LOST that he could’ve helped saved. HE KNEW this could happen and didn’t prepare or take it seriously. He downplayed it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Crawford joined the Brooklyn Nets as a substitute player for the NBA’s restart of the 2019-20 season, though he only logged one six-minute appearance due to injury.

According to Marc Spears of The Undefeated, the Nets are expected to re-sign Crawford this offseason.

Woodward’s book is set to come out on September 15.

Michael Scotto and Anthony Puccio on the Steve Nash hiring, Nets trade candidates and more

On this episode of the HoopsHype podcast, we discuss Nets’ hiring of Nash, how close Gregg Popovich was to coaching the Nets, and more.

On this episode of the HoopsHype podcast, Michael Scotto is joined by Anthony Puccio of NetsDaily. Scotto and Puccio discuss the reaction to Brooklyn’s hiring of Steve Nash, how close Gregg Popovich was to coaching the Nets, what the rest of the assistant coaching staff could look like, and more. Is Caris LeVert the team’s third star? Which Nets players will be trade candidates this summer?

:20 – Initial reactions to Nash’s hiring.

1:20 – The possibility of Gregg Popovich coaching the Nets.

Puccio: “As far as I’m concerned, and what I was told, was Pop was definitely somebody that they had on the table. They wanted a big name back when they fired Kenny Atkinson coming into this next season, where Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving are going to be healthy, as we assume. I understand that they wanted to get him. He was definitely a name that was on their list, but throughout the process, I was being told it was far fetched. There were a lot of obstacles to get him.”

4:34 – Evaluating the roles Joe Tsai and Sean Marks had in the hiring process.

7:03 – The comparison to the Jason Kidd hiring.

10:07 – The shift in Brooklyn’s culture.

13:00 – Questions for Nash to answer as a head coach.

15:10 – What retaining Jacque Vaughn means for Brooklyn.

16:00 – The backlash for picking a coach with no experience.

19:44 – Could Vaughn be a head coaching candidate next offseason in the NBA or college game?

20:20 – Nets assistant coaching changes to keep an eye on.

Scotto: “When I look at it, Tiago Splitter, Bret Brielmaier, Adam Harrington, I think those guys stay. Adam’s got a great relationship with Kevin Durant. Tiago and Bret have Spurs ties. You mentioned earlier that Jacque Vaughn was brought in by Sean Marks to be a guide for Kenny (Atkinson) when he first started. The guy I remember Kenny bringing on was Jordan Ott from Atlanta. He’s done great work with DeMarre Carroll in the past. He’s continued to do great work with Joe Harris as well. If Kenny gets a job as a head coach somewhere, I could see him maybe trying to bring Jordan Ott with him.”

Puccio: “I think a name to look out for is Raja Bell, somebody he played with the Suns in Phoenix. Someone else to look at is Alvin Gentry, who was part of the coaching staff in Phoenix and was just laid off from his Pelicans job.”

23:44 – Is Caris LeVert the third star for the Nets?

27:54 – Is LeVert a candidate to come off the bench and compete with Spencer Dinwiddie to be next season’s Sixth Man of the Year?

32:36 – Who could be in trade talks for the Nets this offseason? Dinwiddie? Jarrett Allen?

Scotto: “You’ve got Dinwiddie who’s got a guaranteed deal next year, and then he’s got a $12.3 million player option the year after that. He’s opting out of that, barring any injury. He’s going to opt out of that to try and get more money, survey the market and be a potential starting point guard. I’d be shocked if he didn’t.”

36:39 – What executives and scouts think of Nicolas Claxton as a trade target.

Scotto: “Anytime I’ve had conversations with opposing scouts or executives, Nic Claxton is a guy that they all come out to watch and talk to people about to try and get more background on. If he was in the draft this year, no doubt in my mind he was going to be a lottery pick and probably in the top 10.”

38:07 – What Joe Harris could command in free agency.

Scotto: “I think they definitely re-sign Joe Harris, and I think he doubles his salary to somewhere around $15 million, give a couple million more or less.”

39:06 – What are the futures of Jamal Crawford, Tyler Johnson and Wilson Chandler?

Puccio: “I think you definitely see Jamal Crawford come back next year. I’m very confident that he’ll be back, and also Tyler Johnson as well after what he did in the Orlando bubble. We know Sean Marks likes him a lot after the contract that he threw at him when he was in Miami.”

“I think, with Chandler, it’s kind of a coin flip. I personally don’t think that he’s coming back, but we’ll have to see on that front.”

44:03 – Looking at the landscape of the East next season.

Report: Nets expected to re-sign Jamal Crawford

An injury restricted Jamal Crawford to only six minutes of action inside the Disney bubble with the Brooklyn Nets.

Four years after Steve Nash went No. 15 overall to the Phoenix Suns in the 1996 NBA Draft, Jamal Crawford was selected No. 8 overall in the 2000 NBA Draft by the Chicago Bulls.

While the two guards crossed paths plenty of times over the years, Nash and Crawford never played on the same team — though, like the Hall of Fame point guard, Crawford also dawned a Phoenix Suns uniform.

With the Brooklyn Nets hiring Steve Nash as their new head coach on Thursday, the opportunity is finally there for he and Crawford to work together.

It appears that’s something the Nets front office wants to see come to fruition.

According to Marc Spears of The Undefeated, the Nets are “expected to re-sign” Crawford.

Due to a hamstring injury, the veteran guard was only able to log six minutes in a Nets uniform inside the Disney bubble after signing with the team ahead of the restart as a substitute player.

Jamal Crawford shares message following Brian Urlacher’s remarks about NBA players

Hall of Fame linebacker Brian Urlacher made some controversial remarks about NBA players on his Instagram story on Thursday.

While the NHL has suspended the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs and some MLB teams have elected to postpone game since the Milwaukee Bucks did not play Game 5 of their first-round series against the Orlando Magic which led to the suspension of the 2020 NBA Playoffs, there are some who disagree with what has transpired in the Disney bubble.

Most notable among those in the sports world to be critical of the NBA’s process has been Hall of Fame linebacker Brian Urlacher, who shared the following on his Instagram story on Thursday:

Brett Favre played the MNF game the day his dad died, threw 4 TDs in the first half, and was a legend for playing in the face of adversity.

NBA payers boycott the playoffs because a dude reaching for a knife, wanted on a felony sexual assault warrant, was shot by the police.

DeAndre Jordan was not a fan of what Urlacher had to say, and another member of the Brooklyn Nets has responded to the former NFL star’s comments.

Like Jordan, Jamal Crawford took to Twitter on Thursday to share a message:

There are a lot more Brian Urlacher’s out there.

Injury-shortened run with Nets not slowing down Jamal Crawford

Jamal Crawford didn’t get to do much in the Disney bubble, but he has no intention of calling it a career yet.

Although the Brooklyn Nets went into the Disney bubble without a lot of their key players, there were multiple reasons for fans to stick close to their team and enjoy the ride.

Among those reasons was the chance to watch the 40-year-old substitute player Brooklyn signed, who had to prove he can provide an NBA team with more than just a veteran voice. But, unfortunately, Jamal Crawford’s run with the Nets ended as quickly as it started thanks to a left hamstring strain.

Yet he still has every intention of continuing his NBA career beyond 2019-20.

According to Marc Stein of The New York Times, Crawford, “hopes to play again next season at age 41.”

Before his one game in the bubble on August 4 — during which, Crawford scored five points and dished out three assists in just under six minutes of action — the vet had not played in an NBA game since April of 2019.

LaMelo Ball celebrated his 19th birthday on Saturday and, as one of the most popular teenagers in the world, many people took time to send him birthday wishes on the day.

Jamal Crawford, current Brooklyn Net and one of the best NBA sixth men of all-time, sent out a tweet Saturday morning wishing Ball a happy birthday.

Brother Lonzo took to Instagram to wish his youngest brother a happy birthday while also playing the big brother role.

Ball’s former NBL team, now known as The Hawks, sent Ball a happy birthday tweet as well.

Ball’s new agency, Roc Nation Sports, tweeted out a graphic for Ball’s birthday.

Jamal Crawford ruled out for Game 4 with Nets trailing Raptors 3-0

There’s a chance Nets fans won’t see Jamal Crawford dawn a Brooklyn uniform again.

Nets interim head coach Jacque Vaughn ruled Joe Harris out for Game 4 before Brooklyn even played Game 3 of their first-round series against the Raptors, so it’s no surprise the team announced on Saturday that its sharpshooter has been ruled out for Sunday’s game with Toronto.

Vaughn also expressed early in the series that Jamal Crawford would be unavailable for the first few games of the series. The veteran guard did not log one second of action throughout Brooklyn’s first three playoff games — each of which the Raptors have won — and it turns out he’s not going to play Game 4 either.

The Nets announced Crawford is out once again due to the left hamstring strain he suffered against the Milwaukee Bucks on August 4.

The Raptors continue to be without Patrick McCaw (benign mass in knee) and former Net Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (knee) was unavailable last game against his old team on Friday.

Jamal Crawford still sidelined, rule out Game 3 vs. Raptors

The Brooklyn Nets will be down two scoring options in Friday’s crucial Game 3 against the Toronto Raptors.

Nets fans may have to wait for the 2020-21 season to see Jamal Crawford take the floor in a Brooklyn uniform again — assuming he stays with the team beyond the Disney bubble.

The veteran guard has not played in a game since he made his Nets debut on August 4 against the Milwaukee Bucks. Crawford suffered a left hamstring strain that has hampered him since.

Brooklyn once again ruled Crawford out when they released their status report on Thursday for the Nets’ third game of their first-round matchup against the reigning NBA champion Toronto Raptors on Friday.

Joe Harris is the only other player who’ll be unavailable for Brooklyn in Game 3. He left the Disney bubble for a ‘non-medical personal matter’ after Game 2 on Wednesday. The Nets’ sharpshooter will also be unavailable for Game 4 on Sunday.
