Vince Carter, Stephon Marbury think Nets should consider re-signing Jamal Crawford

The Brooklyn Nets will be without Spencer Dinwiddie for an extended period of time, if not ll of 2020-21.

Spencer Dinwiddie may try to return from ACL surgery sooner than the average individual, but the Nets are going to be without him for a long time either way. There are players on the roster who can help make up for his absence, but Brooklyn will likely have the option to apply for a Disabled Player Exception if Dinwiddie is, in fact, done for 2020-21 — and two former Nets stars already know who they want their old team to add.

“I think if Jamal is in the physical shape to play 15-20 minutes at a high level, why not give him a chance,” Stephon Marbury told Brandon “Scoop B Robinson of Heavy.com. “He’s perfect for the system in how they play. Run him through a high-level NBA workout for three to five days to see how his body recovers and let that be the tester.”

Now, if the Nets were to apply for a Disabled Player Exception, they’d need to cut someone from the current roster.

Still, Vince Carter also mentioned Crawford as someone the Nets should add when discussing Caris LeVert’s role with Dinwiddie out.

“Let [LeVert] have the second unit as the feature guy,” Carter said. “And, of course, sometimes you can play the three of them together. But I think, keep it this way, go get somebody who can get you a bucket or a ball-handler — like a Jamal Crawford or someone who can score, get buckets and be a ball-handler.”

Jamal Crawford’s few minutes in a Nets uniform helped him more than his 50-point game with Suns

Jamal Crawford has no doubt in his mind about whether or not he’ll be on an NBA roster in 2020-21.

Whenever it was expressed that any team needs to add a veteran scorer throughout the entire 2019-20 NBA season, Jamal Crawford was one of the first names to come to mind. And while his age (40) was often brought up, so was the fact he scored 51 points in his last game of the 2018-19 season.

Yet it took a hiatus and countless Nets players either getting injuring or opting out of the bubble because of COVID-19 for Crawford to sign a deal with Brooklyn.

Unfortunately for Crawford, his first opportunity to log minutes in a Nets uniform was cut short by a hamstring injury. Then, Crawford’s first Nets appearance became his lone one — for 2019-20, at least.

But the veteran guard still managed to draw everyone’s attention in the few minutes he logged in the bubble.

“I had been practicing and the practices for my teammates and for the coaches and for everybody with the Nets,” Crawford said on the Hoop Narrative podcast. “The game looked just like the practices did, so it didn’t shock them. The only part that shocked them was, ‘Man, he hasn’t played an actual game in 16 months.’ And I’m not just coming back against a team that was weak. At the time [the Milwaukee Bucks] were No. 1 in the league.

“I had three assists before I took a shot. So once I hit the first shot, then I scored again and I’m looking at who’s guarding me. And I’m looking at their eyes, and now they’re starting to look around for help when I’m coming down the court. I’m like ‘Oh I got ’em.’ … I promise you, I was like ‘I’m about to paint a masterpiece.’ I promise you, every minute I would’ve played — in five minutes I had five points and three assists, if I would’ve played 20 minutes I was going to have 20 points and eight assists. … I thought it would take longer to come back, [but] it was back.”

As wild as the idea may seem, Crawford feels his brief appearance for the Nets made more of an impact for him than his 51-point game at the end of the 2018-19 season.

“In those five minutes, I had so many messages,” he said. “I didn’t have as many messages as when I signed [with the Nets], but I had messages from people in the league like, ‘Man, look like you ain’t even miss a beat.’

“In a weird way, it was almost like those five minutes did for me what the 50-point game couldn’t do. It was like, [after] those five minutes, people was like, ‘Oh he’s still got it. We gonna holler at him next year.'”

As a result, Crawford has ‘no doubt’ he’ll be playing in the NBA next season.

“I, realistically, think it’s going to happen,” he said. “And I don’t think it will take as long as it did before.”

John Calipari compares potential Nets draft pick to Nuggets star Jamal Murray

If Brooklyn fans didn’t already like the idea of their team selecting Immanuel Quickley in the draft, a former Nets coach has some intel.

Comparing draft prospects to established players is always a dicey game. A lot can go right or wrong when a young player makes the big jump to the NBA. There’s no telling how they’ll handle the adversity that comes with playing at the highest level.

That’s especially true when comparing prospects to breakout stars — like Nuggets guard Jamal Murray, who made waves in the Disney bubble by playing a huge role in Denver’s run to the Western Conference Finals.

But in this instance, Jon Calipari comparing potential Nets draft pick Immanuel Quickley to Murray doesn’t seem over the top. Especially when considering he coached both guards at the college level.

“Jamal Murray did not play but about 15 percent point guard (at Kentucky),” Calipari said before the pandemic hit, per Jon Hale of The Courier-Journal. “I would say Immanuel played 5-8 percent point guard because the other two guys in front of him were better in pick-and-rolls and creating shots for their teammates. They weren’t a shot-creator like he was. So, the team used that strength and exploited that in him.”

Jamal Crawford reacts to Sixers hiring Jameer Nelson to front office

Jamal Crawford reacts to the news of the Philadelphia 76ers hiring Jameer Nelson.

The Philadelphia 76ers made another front office hire on Tuesday night as they brought on former NBA All-Star Jameer Nelson to serve as a scout as well as an assistant general manager for the team’s G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats.

Nelson has a good reputation around the league and he is a guy who can do a lot of good for the Sixers on the business side of things. He made the All-Star game in 2009 with the Orlando Magic, he has NBA Finals experience, and he also played with Tobias Harris when he played for Orlando.

There is another NBA veteran who has had a successful NBA career by the name of Jamal Crawford. He had his battles with Nelson back in their day and he was happy when he saw the news of Philadelphia bringing him on.

NBA star Jamal Crawford has praise for Sixers rookie Matisse Thybulle

NBA star Jamal Crawford has some praise for Philadelphia 76ers rookie Matisse Thybulle.

When a player is from a specific area, it is customary he gets a lot of love from guys who made it from the same area. For Philadelphia 76ers rookie Matisse Thybulle, he made the NBA after four very good seasons at Washington and he got a lot of love from a star who hails from that area.

Jamal Crawford has established himself as one of the better scorers in NBA history and a guy who made his reputation as one of the better bench players in the game. He’s won the 6th Man of the Year award three times and he has averaged 14.6 points per game in his career.

Crawford appeared on the Jeremy Mills Podcast to discuss some hoopers from the 2017 CrawsOver Championship game for his Pro Am league in Seattle. When the topic of Thybulle came up, Crawford had some praise for the rookie:

Matisse Thybulle, that was a big summer for Tisse man like he went back to college with a whole different person so that was a huge summer for him to really like take that next step, like, you know what, I’m not far away. You know, when he got drafted that night, he wrote an Instagram post, you can go look it up and he thanked me in the post I’m like, Whoa, like, but it was coming, because I was always in his ear at the Pro Am like nah, you’re gonna lead us in scoring, you know like, we’re gonna follow your lead. You take the take the bull by the horns and go for it. We’re here to support you and it gave him a whole different level of confidence so I was happy for him.

In case anybody wants to see the Instagram post that Crawford was referring to, it can be seen here. It’s always good to have mentors and for Thybulle to have a guy like Crawford in his ear, it can be a good thing for him moving forward. That can bode well for his future in the league. Jamal Crawford shares special story of Kevin Durant interacting with fans

Jamal Crawford’s story of Kevin Durant prompted Caron Butler to share one of his own about the Brooklyn Nets forward.

Among the many things impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic was Jamal Crawford’s The Crawsover Pro-Am summer league. Seattle residents found out in June they were missing out on their premier basketball event this year.

So that meant not more stories like the one Jamal Crawford shared during his appearance on the Jeremy Mills Podcast about Kevin Durant from when the now Brooklyn Nets forward played in The Crawsover Pro-Am back in 2013:

After the game, I remember we were getting Kevin out of there peacefully. Couldn’t talk to too many people. It was chaotic, so we had to get him out of there safely. We get him in his car, he leaves, he goes and probably gets about a half-block, tells the driver [to] stop the car]. He lets everybody come to his car, get autographs [and] pictures for an hour. For an hour, after the game was over. But that’s who he is.

So, then he texts me later on and was like, ‘Man, this was the best day of my summer.’ He absolutely adored it. It was his first time back in Seattle. the love he got — he stopped his car. We got him out of there safely where fans could say by but he had to keep moving [yet] he stopped his car, stayed there for an hour in the middle of the street and fans came up. It was unbelievable.

The Caron Butler shared a memory on Twitter of Durant going the extra mile for young basketball players:

@KDTrey5 is a Special Brother. He came to my basketball camp right after his MVP season to inspire the kids. #Racine KD I will never forget that neither will those kids.

Jamal Crawford weighs in on Vice Presidential Debate

Jamal Crawford had a few things to say about the debate between Kamala Harris and Joe Biden on Wednesday.

[jwplayer kBav5MVx]

Wednesday night played host to the 2020 Vice Presidential Debate between Vice President Mike Pence and Senator Kamala Harris, running mate to Democratic Presidential Candidate Joe Biden.

While Twitter was abuzz over a fly that inserted itself into the debate, Brooklyn Nets guard Jamal Crawford was among those paying attention to what was actually being said by Vice President Pence and Senator Harris.

Crawford posed two questions to Twitter in response to the back and forth. One was related to Vice President Pence:

Is he gonna answer how he’s gonna convince [President Donald] Trump to peacefully hand over transfer [in presidency] or no?

The other question, naturally, had to do with the one thing distracting everyone:

That a fly on Pence’s head??

And at the end of it all, Crawford gave his assessment of Senator Harris:

Senator Kamala Harris represented the American people wonderfully tonight.

Jamal Crawford praises Mark Cuban for helping Delonte West in Dallas

Delonte West has been in need of help and Mark Cuban recently stepped up to assists the former Dallas Mavericks guard.

Before the NBA went on hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a video surfaced of former Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers and Dallas Mavericks point guard Delonte West getting punched and stomped in the street, then yelling nonsensically while in the Prince George County (Maryland) area.

West then popped up again last week when he was seen asking for money in the Dallas area. That’s when Mark Cuban decided to step in.

The Mavericks owner was spotted picking up West at a gas station by TMZ on Monday. Cuban later confirmed the report with Tim McMahon of ESPN.

McMahon is also reporting West’s “family and friends have been trying to get West to go to a drug rehabilitation facility and that Cuban has offered to pay for his treatment.”

As the news circulated social media, Brooklyn Nets point guard Jamal Crawford made sure to join those recognizing Cuban for his efforts, tweeting:

Jamal Crawford reacts to grand jury’s ruling on officers involved in Breonna Taylor’s death

NBA players continue to speak on the death of Breonna Taylor following the grand jury’s ruling on the officers involved in her death.

As the Black Lives Matter movement jumped to the forefront in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic and the stoppage of all sports, one of the names mentioned frequently was Breonna Taylor. She was a Black medical worker who was shot and killed by Louisville police officers in March during a raid of her apartment.

After the NBA resumed the 2019-20 season, players remained in contact with Taylor’s family and continued to say her name during interviews and press conferences, no matter the subject being discussed.

After Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron announced the grand jury’s ruling on Wednesday that polic officer Brett Hankison has been charged with three counts of “wanton endangerment” and the other two officers involved were “justified in their return of deadly fire,” NBA players took to Twitter, Brooklyn Nets guard Jamal Crawford being one of them:

I know they didn’t think paying money to Breonna Taylor’s family was enough. Justice is worth more…

But that was just the beginning for Crawford:

They’re trying to say they are wrong in every way except, in admitting the MURDER OF BREONNA TAYLOR!

He continued:

The cops that murdered Breonna Taylor knew this is how it would play out from the moment it happened. They were never worried about justice being served.

Crawford also added:

In every way, they try and remind us Black lives don’t matter.. We will ALWAYS matter!!!!!
