Studs and duds from Giants’ Week 18 win vs. Eagles

Here’s a look at the studs and duds (and studly duds) from a 27-10 win for the New York Giants against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 18.

The New York Giants closed out the regular season with a wildly unexpected drubbing of the Philadelphia Eagles — something they hadn’t done to such a degree since 2012.

The game was over by halftime with the Giants leading 24-0 and the Eagles waiving the white flag. Head coach Nick Sirianni began pulling his starters, acknowledging they could no longer compete with Big Blue.

Although the game itself meant nothing to the Giants in terms of playoff seeding, it was significant in the sense that it ended Philly’s dominant reign.

Here is a look at some of the studs and duds (and studly duds) from the Week 18 victory.

Giants’ Tyrod Taylor, Tommy DeVito injured vs. Eagles

New York Giants QBs Tyrod Taylor and Tommy DeVito, and WR Jalin Hyatt were all injured in the first quarter against Philadelphia on Sunday.

Editor’s note: Midway through the third quarter, Tyrod Taylor was injured again and replaced by Tommy DeVito. Again.

Injuries at the quarterback position have been a theme for the New York Giants all season and that trend continued on Sunday afternoon.

Midway through the first quarter, Tyrod Taylor scrambled to his right and delivered a stiff arm to a Philadelphia Eagles defender. He appeared to get his finger caught in the facemask and was in obvious discomfort.

Trainers examined Taylor on the sideline before he took a few practice throws, but he wouldn’t make it back onto the field for the next series.

Rookie Tommy DeVito replaced Taylor, who the Giants listed as questionable to return.

But the bad news didn’t end there as DeVito promptly took a few big shots before limping off to the sideline himself. Like Taylor, DeVito was examined by trainers and had his ankle tapped tightly.

With DeVito limping, the Giants went back to Taylor to start the second quarter.

If both DeVito and Taylor are forced to exit the game, the Giants elevated Jacob Eason from their practice squad on Saturday. He is considered the emergency quarterback.

Meanwhile, rookie wide receiver Jalin Hyatt suffered a hamstring injury and was listed as questionable to return before being downgraded to out.

Giants vs. Eagles: 3 best player prop bets for Week 18

The New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles square off on Sunday afternoon in Week 18 and here are the 3 best prop bets to consider.

The New York Giants (5-11) host the Philadelphia Eagles (11-5) at MetLife Stadium this Sunday afternoon to close out the 2023 regular season.

The Giants are done, with no role to play other than spoiler, while the Eagles need to win if they have any designs on taking the NFC title for the second straight season.

This promises to be a competitive game. The Giants are tired of being pushed around in this series and have dropped 13 of the last 15, including the last five. But in their meeting just two weeks ago, the Giants surged back and almost took the Eagles to overtime, giving them hope that they can finally beat them.

The Eagles have been faltering, losers of four of their last five, and now could find themselves a wild card team come next week.

Here are three prop bets for you to consider in this game, per BetMGM.

Jalin Hyatt by the numbers against Los Angeles

Former Vol Jalin Hyatt by the numbers against Los Angeles.

Los Angeles (9-7) defeated the Giants (5-11), 26-25, Sunday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey during Week 17.

Former Vol Jalin Hyatt recorded three receptions for 25 yards against the Rams. He was targeted four times.

Hyatt played wide receiver at Tennessee from 2020-22, recording 108 receptions, 1,769 receiving yards, 19 receiving touchdowns and averaged 16.4 yards per reception.

Hyatt became the first player in program history to win the Biletnikoff Award. He was a 2022 consensus first-team All-American and a first-team All-SEC selection.

Hyatt holds single-game records for touchdown receptions and points scored after his five-touchdown performance against Alabama in 2022.

He was was a third-round selection by the Giants in the 2023 NFL draft (No. 73 overall.

New York will next play on Sunday versus Philadelphia. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. EST at MetLife Stadium.

Stock up, down after Giants’ 26-25 loss to Rams

Whose stock is up and whose is down following the New York Giants’ Sunday afternoon loss to the Los Angeles Rams?

The New York Giants couldn’t get out of their own way in Week 17, repeatedly shooting themselves in the foot and snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

As a potential game-winning field goal sailed wide left with only seconds remaining, reality sunk in. The season was already lost but now it’s going down in the flames of frustration.

The chance to play spoiler was lost as the Los Angeles Rams hung on to win, 26-25.

Whose stock is up and whose is down after the Week 17 defeat? Let’s take a look.

Giants’ Jalin Hyatt remains upbeat despite limited targets

New York Giants rookie WR Jalin Hyatt remains upbeat and focused despite his target share (and production) decreasing in recent weeks.

The New York Giants will host the Los Angeles Rams this Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium in a game that will send the Rams to the postseason with a victory.

At the beginning of the season, however, the Giants were the team that everyone thought would be in the playoffs, not the Rams. Things don’t always work out according to plan, as we know.

The two teams made a draft day trade, with the Rams sending the Giants the 73rd overall selection (in Round 3) for the Giants’ third-rounder (No. 89) and a fourth-round pick (No. 128).

With that selection, the Giants took Tennessee wide receiver Jalin Hyatt, a speedster who was clocked at 24 MPH during training camp, the highest speed ever recorded by an NFL player.

The Rams took Wake Forest defensive lineman Kobie Turner at No. 89. Turner has had a productive rookie season with 6.5 sacks thus far.

At No. 128, Los Angeles took a flyer on Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett. He has been on the non-football illness list since the start of the season.

Hyatt, on the other hand, has had an up-and-down rookie campaign. He’s dressed for all of the Giants’ 15 games so far this year and has started six. He has just 19 receptions on 34 targets for a total of 343 yards. He leads the team with an 18.1 YPR average, yet the team appears to be apprehensive to turn him loose.

Hyatt is not discouraged about his disappointing rookie season. He realizes the Giants have had issues on the offensive side of the ball this year stemming from the revolving door at both quarterback can along the offensive line due to injuries.

“I’m learning the NFL and how things operate up here,” Hyatt told the New York Post.

“You can’t pout because you never know, next week it might be five targets for me, six targets, seven targets, and what if I’m not ready? If go out there not prepared because I was pouting all week and I do have those opportunities, I don’t come in with them.”

Hyatt has an upbeat attitude and feels his moment will come.

“I can’t control where the ball goes, the only thing I can focus on is myself and this team, just getting open, whatever one-on-one matchup I have or whoever is on me,” he said. “Just come in every day, keep preparing, keep doing the same routine I have weekly, and hopefully, things can change.”

Giants are sticking with the youth movement at wide receiver

New York Giants coach Brian Daboll says the team will continue to play their young wide receivers over the veterans as the season winds down.

The New York Giants are going through several transitions on both sides of the ball, but none more evident than at the wide receiver position.

The team started out with a mix of veterans and young players at wide receivers and as the season has gone on, it’s apparent they want to go with the youngsters.

That means playing rookie Jalin Hyatt and second-year wideout Wan’Dale Robinson more and players such as Isaiah Hodgins, Parris Campbell and Sterling Shepard less.

In last Sunday’s 24-6 loss to the Saints in New Orleans, Darius Slayton led the way by playing on 95 percent of the snaps followed by Robinson (85 percent) and Hyatt (71 percent).

Hodgins played on just 29 percent of the offensive snaps followed by Shepard (5 percent) and Gunner Olszewski (2 percent). Campbell didn’t even make the game day cut as he was a healthy scratch for the second straight week.

“Hyatt and Wan’Dale are playing more,” head coach Brian Daboll told reporters on Wednesday when asked about the distribution of playing time at wideout.

Asked how the veterans were dealing with the reduced workload, Daboll didn’t add much depth to his decision.

“They’re pros,” he said. “I mean, they’re competitive, I’m sure they’d like to play, but we’re playing Wan’Dale and Hyatt.”

The Giants are more invested in Hyatt and Robinson than the others. They are players that current general manager Joe Schoen scouted and drafted as opposed to the others.

They used a second-round pick on Robinson last year and a third- and fourth-round pick in a trade this year to select Hyatt. That is why they are out on the field.

The Giants inked Slayton to a two-year, $12 million deal last March, so he was always going to fit prominently in their plans. Shepard and Campbell are playing this season on one-year deals.

Hodgins is due to become an exclusive rights free agent come next offseason.

Jalin Hyatt believes Giants have the ‘right guys in the room’

New York Giants rookie WR Jalin Hyatt believes the organization has “the right guys in the room” and they’re headed for long-term success.

Following their surprising success in 2022, the New York Giants had high hopes coming into this year after improving the roster during the offseason.

General manager Joe Schoen beefed up the team’s personnel through both free agency and the NFL draft, including their third-round pick Jalin Hyatt.

Plenty of mock drafts had Hyatt projected to go late in the first round. Instead, he fell to the Giants in the third round where Schoen saw an opportunity to trade up and snag the University of Tennessee receiver.

Through 15 weeks, the Giants aren’t exactly where they want to be (5-8) but are riding a three-game winning streak and Hyatt believes the right people are in place.

“Even though the record doesn’t speak for what we want, I still think we have a good team,” Hyatt told Giants Wire prior to their Week 14 victory. “We have the right guys in the room. We just can’t beat ourselves and that’s really what it’s been this whole season, beating ourselves.

“Once we get away from that and we start playing as a confident unit and confident offense. . . we know (what) we can do. Not only that, but have our guys back healthy. Hopefully, we will change the script. We’re still focused on the now. We still have our playoff hopes and we’re still going to go out there and do what we have to do, so we’re going to continue to get better.”

Injuries were a big reason for the Giants’ lack of success earlier this season and it’s still causing issues at 5-8.

The Giants still have a shot at the postseason as crazy as that may seem given the fact that they currently hold a high draft pick. But as Hyatt alludes, continuing success means not beating themselves, which is something they’ve avoided in recent weeks.

Ideally, that trend will continue as Hyatt improves on a day-by-day basis, potentially helping to lead the Giants back to the playoffs.

Even if Big Blue falls short of that, Hyatt has faith that the right people are in the building down in East Rutherford.

Hyatt became the first player in program history to win the Biletnikoff Award. He was a 2022 consensus first-team All-American and a first-team All-SEC selection.

New York Giants WR Jalin Hyatt and World of Hyatt are teaming up for the FIND experience – a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Giants fans.

New York Giants rookie wide receiver Jalin Hyatt just had his best game as a pro before the bye week against the New England Patriots.

This week, World of Hyatt is launching the “A Weekend in the Cleats of a Pro-Football Rookie” campaign. The campaign will feature an exclusive experience for one fan and their guest for the Giants’ season finale and Hyatt’s final game as a rookie.

Starting Tuesday, December 12, fans can enter to take part in the Jalin Hyatt FIND experience in New York City. The package will include the following:

*Experience is for two (2) people*

Last year, Hyatt’s partnership with World of Hyatt began with an NIL deal and the continuing partnership is something that excites the Giants receiver.

“We’re doing a FIND experience, something new we are doing. World of Hyatt members will have a chance to enter and get this chance to stay at the Park Hyatt and stay there two nights,” Haytt told Giants Wire.

“Park Hyatt is one of the most luxurious places you can stay and you’ll get the whole experience of the Jalin Hyatt experience and you’ll have that chance to get that virtual interview with myself. It will definitely be fun for whoever gets it. So, I can’t wait for this and this is definitely one of my favorite things that we are adding onto what we are trying to do with Hyatt.”

Hyatt sat down with Giants Wire ahead of the campaign and said the partnership with World of Hyatt was much more than due to his last name matching up with the company.

“I think that was one of them but at the same time, when you have the same mindset and what we are trying to do to give back to the community. So there are other things to it. But my (last) name was one of the reasons.”

Hyatt, of course, fell to the third round of the 2023 NFL draft where the Giants saw an opportunity to get a unique talent much later than most expected him to go.
