Vikings elevate 2 from practice squad for Monday’s game

The Vikings elevated two from the practice squad to fill the gap for injured players

The Minnesota Vikings have elevated two players from the practice squad for Monday night’s game against the San Francisco 49ers. Both wide receiver Trishton Jackson and outside linebacker Luiji Vilain.

With Jalen Nailor still working his way back from his hamstring injury, Jackson is being elevated likely to fill a role on special teams. This is Jackson’s second elevation this season and has one more before he has to be on the active roster to play in a game.

After playing in three games in 2022, this is Vilain’s first game in 2023 and also his first activation. With Marcus Davenport on injured reserve, Vilain is likely to be the fourth outside linebacker with Danielle Hunter, D.J. Wonnum and Pat Jones II getting the majority of the snaps.

The Vikings kick off with the 49ers at 7:15 central.

Analyzing final Vikings injury report vs. 49ers

The 49ers will be missing one of their best players on Monday night

The Minnesota Vikings are going to be desperate for a win on Monday night when they take on the San Francisco 49ers. Sitting at 2-4, they are only a game out of a wild card spot and that isn’t too bad considering the circumstances.

The play of the Vikings so far this season has been quality. The underlying metrics believe that the Vikings are a good football team and their play has matched that. The biggest factor of the Vikings’ poor start? Turnovers.

The Vikings have turned the ball over 13 times with a negative seven turnover differential. Going into Monday night’s matchup, they will need to play disciplined football and will be without one of their best lineman.

Vikings vs. 49ers initial injury report

The 49ers have five starters not practicing with only Ezra Cleveland fully sitting out for the Vikings

The initial injury report for the Minnesota Vikings’ Monday night matchup against the San Francisco 49ers is out and the Vikings only have four players on it.

  • LG Ezra Cleveland (foot)-Did not practice
  • CB Akayleb Evans (oblique)-Limited
  • OLB Pat Jones II (shoulder)-Limited
  • WR Jalen Nailor (hamstring)-Limited

Cleveland left Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears with a mid-foot sprain. If he can’t go on Sunday, Dalton Risner will get the start.

Evans looks to have fully healed from his knee injury, but an oblique isn’t something to mess with.

Jones is a new addition with a shoulder injury. If he can’t go, Andre Carter II will likely be active.

Nailor began his practice window on Wednesday and it appears that the Vikings will be ramping him up slowly.

The 49ers have multiple players on their injury report, including five starters not practicing.

  • LB Dre Greenlaw (hamstring)-Did not practice
  • RB Christian McCaffrey (oblique)-Did not practice

Vikings make three roster moves

The Vikings made three roster moves on Wednesday to fortify their roster

The Minnesota Vikings are continuously making roster moves to adjust their roster based on its current needs. This is normal for teams in the National Football League as injuries happen frequently.

Due to injuries, the Vikings made eight roster moves last week and waived one of those on Tuesday in wide receiver Trishton Jackson.

On Wednesday morning, the Vikings made three somewhat anticipated roster moves.

Vikings waive young wide receiver

The move could signal that Jalen Nailor is ready to come back from his hamstring injury

The Minnesota Vikings have cleared a spot on the 53-man roster. The team announced that they have waived wide receiver Trishton Jackson.

After the injury of Justin Jefferson against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Vikings signed both Jackson and N’Keal Harry from the practice squad in a series of eight moves.

On Sunday afternoon, Jackson played four snaps on offense to Harry’s one, but the reason the Vikings likely kept Harry was because he is a more experienced veteran.

The move drops the Vikings roster down to 52 and Jalen Nailor could be coming back sooner than later. He is eligible to come off of injured reserve this week and could have his practice window activated on Wednesday.

Vikings elevate WR from practice squad for Sunday’s game

The Vikings elevated him to replace Jalen Nailor as a punt gunner

Ahead of Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers, the Minnesota Vikings elevated wide receiver Trishton Jackson from the practice squad. The move was expected after the Vikings placed wide receiver Jalen Nailor on injured reserve with a hamstring injury.

Nailor was a punt gunner for the Vikings on special teams and contributed on other special teams units. Jackson looks to fill that role for the Vikings on Sunday afternoon.

It isn’t likely that we see Jackson make an appearance on offense, but him getting in the game is a positive step forward.

The Vikings will have their inactive list announced at 10:30 am central time, 90 minutes before kickoff.

Vikings place Jalen Nailor on injured reserve

To make room for Cam Akers, the Vikings placed the wide receiver on injured reserve

When the Minnesota Vikings traded for running back Cam Akers, they had one too many players on the roster. To make room for him on the 53-man roster, the Vikings placed wide receiver Jalen Nailor on injured reserve.

Nailor missed time during training camp with the same injury. In fact, he didn’t play in a single preseason game.

It’s been a disappointing season for Nailor who the Vikings were very high on going into the season.

What does this mean for the Vikings receiving corps and special teams? Brandon Powell will step up into the WR4 role with one of Lucky Jackson and Trishton Jackson likely to be elevated. N’Keal Harry and Thayer Thomas  are also options but not as likely.

Every NFL team’s most surprising cut candidate

These NFL players could be surprise cuts next week.

Roster cuts are just around the corner, where NFL teams will have to trim the roster from 90 to 53 players. Unlike last year, there is just one cutdown date, following the final week of the preseason, on Aug. 29.

While it’s certainly beneficial for players on the roster bubble to get more opportunity to showcase themselves — for their current or future team — it also makes for one massive wave of roster cuts that will likely feature some surprising yet prominent names.

With that in mind, our NFL Wire editors identified one player from every NFL team who could be a surprise cut on Tuesday.

Jalen Nailor is day-to-day with leg injury

On Saturday afternoon, head coach Kevin O’Connell told the press that Jalen Nailor is day-to-day with a contact leg injury.

Injuries are normal occurrences during training camp and the Minnesota Vikings are not exempt from them. During his press availability on Saturday, head coach Kevin O’Connell told the media that wide receiver Jalen Nailor sustained a “contact leg injury” and is day-to-day.

“[He] sustained a contact leg injury on a clean play on a competitive ball in the air. He’s day to day. We’re hoping to turn him over and have him pretty ready to roll here hopefully early next week. Jalen’s doing really well.”

This explains his mysterious absence from practice on Thursday and Friday. Thankfully, it sounds like a bruise of some sort, as the contact would insinuate.
